“Best Ski Chalet in the Alps”

Darran and the team deliver a fantastic experience year after year, if you want a great ski holiday this is the place to stay......see you again in March

Owner's reply: I cannot thank you enough Kevin for visiting once more and even booking again to come back again in March. That will make it 9 visits in the last 8 years I believe!! Our high rate of repeat custom is testament to the great clientele we have managed to attract, those being positive and good fun. We love it and I feel our team certainly give that little extra as a result. see you again in March where no doubt the ribs will ache from laughter!!

“Well looked after”

We stayed with Darren for a road cycling weekend and were very pleased indeed with our choice. Food, wine all excellent (Abi is an amazing chef), and Darren guided us on exactly the kind of routes we'd hoped for. Airport transfer hassle free (Darren even dropped us at a Geneva bar so we could catch some of the Rugby world cup while the traffic died down at Friday rush hour - which we got stuck in because our flight was delayed). All in all, highly recommended.

“Really great catered chalet for family mountain bike trips!”

We spent a week at Chalet Lac de Vonnes in August to do some mountain biking as a family in Chatel. The chalet is well located, with fantastic views of the mountains, safe bike storage and a short ride/walk from the summer lift system and shuttle buses and from shops/restaurants in the village. Darren the owner lives there and took us to explore the beautiful French/Swiss mountains and Chatel bike park during our stay. It was great to have some local knowledge and MTB tips, and Darren is great company - many thanks Darren! His chalet hosts are the delightful Abby and Ollie who did a great job looking after us and our boys.....Abby's cooking is wonderful and every evening we sat down to enjoy a delicious three course dinner. The kids still miss her desserts!! Having Lewis and Heinz as company during our stay were an added bonus, especially for our boys. Overall for us the chalet offered a combination of active family holiday, good food and relaxation. Thank you guys!

“Great host, Great food, Great place”

This was my first time to Chatel but I was travelling with a group that had been once before and previously stayed with Darren and had heard good things. The trip definitely lived up to expectations, the area as a whole was amazing, as were the hosts. The food throughout the stay was very impressive in the way it looked and tasted. It was obvious a lot of effort had gone into it. The chalet it's self was great plenty of room and spectacular views from the balcony and hot tub. It was a great trip and I am looking forward to the next time I can go back Thanks!

“Fantastic Chalet and Great hosts!”

23rd March - 30th March 2014 Just returned from a fantastic week with 6 of my friends and we had the best time... At the end of the week I left with an extra 3 friends :) We arrived on the Sunday and was greeted at the Airport for our transfer back to Chatel. Once we arrived at the Chalet we had our ski hire already arranged so we got a quick afternoon of fresh snow. We we then greeted by our hosts Joe and Kerry who explained to us our breakfast and meal times. The food they cooked for us all week was excellent and don't think I have eaten so well before for a full week! Joe took us to the slopes every morning at 9:00am and picked us up late afternoon which was brilliant and saved getting the bus back thus more time to relax in the Chalet Hot tub!! With regards to Darren the owner, he was excellent and anything we wanted organizing he did it straight away... arranging a meal for us on the Wednesday night to sorting Air boarding on the Friday and Saturday...he even came out with us one morning to explain the area to us which was a great help! All in all a really nice guy who made us all feel welcome. Again we all highly recommend Chalet lac du Vonnes and Darren does a fantastic job in looking after you..... Like I said we went as a group of 7 friends and left with an Extra 3 friends... Darren, Joe and Kerry Thanks guys will be back next year :)

“A perfect week in Chatel.”

A superb week in Chalet Lac du Vonnes. Darren is the perfect host and all our needs catered for including arranging Skiing Lessons/Equipment etc. Transport to and from resort and to the slopes. The hospitality at the chalet was excellent and the food outstanding. (Thanks to Joe and Kerry) I would highly recommend this holiday. You can enjoy the après ski in the village or sit in the chalet and relax in front of the Log Burner with a glass of wine Here's to next year.....

“Wow what a great stay!!”

Such a fab stay ,Darren the owner and host was wonderful! We travelled with two family's mixed ages and all had a great time, hot tub in the morning table tennis in the evening kept everyone content along with delicious food. I've stayed in a good few chalets and photographed them being a photographer,But this was the first one that felt so homely more a tribute to Darren's attention to detail and relax attitude. Dinner on the balcony is a must the view is sublime. I will be back!!

“stunning views, stunning chalet, excellent food, very friendly/helpful staff, about to rebook so why would you not go???”

Myself and a couple of friends have just returned from a fully catered week, staying with Darren and Marselles in chalet lac de vonnes. Upon arrival (about 8pm due to driving down) Darren greeted us with his huge friendly smile, after a quick tour of the chalet he said "first things first, you guys must be tired after your drive, we have kept your dinner warm. so sit and relax with a cool beer and have your dinner". After a lovely 3 course meal (all the meals throughout the week were excellent), we unloaded the bikes/bags and relaxed on the balcony with the other guests. The chalet has a very warm/open/friendly feel about it, being lovely and clean .With the chalet holding about 8-9 people it was never to crammed or busy. The location is excellent within Chatel, just opposite a lovely lake and only a couple of minutes ride/walk into the centre. From the centre you get the bus to the lifts, or ride cross country to the main lift (20 minutes ride). The area is breath taking, the views are amazing with crisp clean air. We had 4 days with Darren guiding us around the cross country routes, as we didn't want to spend all our time on downhill runs. The areas he took us too were great rides in the mountains, but even more impressive was that he knew areas that were almost untouched by the masses, so lots of alpine single tracks were ridden. I know a lot of people don't want do XC, i would let this put you off as the rides were well worth it, with Darren always giving easy and cheeky (hard) routes throughout the days. All in all the holiday surpassed our expectations, and thats why he books up so fast, we have been home about 1 week and already we are sorting our next holiday with him. to sum it up :stunning views, stunning chatel, excellent food, very friendly/helpful staff. we are about to rebook. so why wouldn't you go to chalet lac de vonnes with Darren and his staff.

“The people the place the hosts and the mountainbiking - all BRILLIANT”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2013

I have just recently returned from a week at Chalet Lac de Vonnes (Mountainbike Breaks) and i am very happy to say it was brilliant. From the outset Darren was really helpful and flexible. He came and picked us and our biking gear up from Geneva, even though i managed to give him the wrong flight times, dropped us at the chalet, settled us in and even conjoured up a couple of much needed (at midniight) baguettes. Waking up in the morning you realise just how amazing the Alps are. The location is fantastic, the lake across the road is very picturescue and your only a few minutes walk from a beautifull town. As for the chalet itself - the view from the balcony is something else. The house is spotless, the beds are comfy, the breakfasts are more than enough and there is not enough i can say about the evening meals. The chalet girls cook fantastic food and the cake....its worth going just to try the Carrot Cake. Its to die for. Then there is the hot tub, the workshop to build and service your bikes (you will need this). And if you having a day off there is a Table Tennis Table in there as well. You could not want for anymore. Then there is the mountain biking. Awsome pretty much covers that! Its nothing like what we have in the UK, but absolutley mega. Take spare brake pads, you WILL need them. There is more than enough here for everykind of ability including beginners, and more than enough to stretch anyones ability who maybe at the top of their game. The chair lifts stretch all over the mountains and its amazing how much you can cover if you want to get away from the bike park for a day or 2. We were in Switzerland, back to France, then back to the bike park all in one day and i am no athlete. I could go on and on here about all sorts. Chatel is beautiful. The buses are free. Darren is so helpfull. The whole set up is just perfect. I have used a lot of companies all over the world for this sort of thing and Mountainbike Breaks is up there in the top 3. If there was any blemish, its the bike shops (bring your own spares), the restaurants and the bars (£6+ for a pint) - they are all very expensive but this is a ski resort in the middle of the Alps with a captive audience i guess. The pros far far out way the very very few cons. If you think you can mountain bike at home get your self to Chatel - YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!

“Friendly, Fun and Relaxed!”

Reviewed 7 Apr 2013

This is the second visit to ski resort and both times I stayed in chalet's which were run by Darren, and I must say both experiences have been great! The staff are professional, run the chalet well, cook great food, make you feel very welcome from the minute you are collected from the airport and throughout the whole week. In the chatel you have wifi, tv, lovely stove fire, plenty of hot water, the place is very clean, hot-tub is always ready, the honesty bar is very handy (just take note of what you use & settle bill at end of the week), very cosy, great views of the valley in the mornings! The village has all that you would need, the bus service is great, apre ski is good fun, nightclub isn't great but the pubs do have music which suited our group. I am a novice skier, so I found the slopes great, plenty of challenges on and off piste, skiing into Switzerland (doing the loop) was a great day seeing so much of the mountains and small villages nearby. Overall I loved the week, I recommend staying at the Chalet Lac de Vonnes & I hope to go back once a year at least! All the staff and Darren (Alpinebreaks) who run the chalet were brilliant, they made the holiday special. Can't wait for Jan 2014!
