Please note for winter sports - we are approximately 20 km from Les Orres and Crevoux and 25 km from Vars and Risoul. BUT it is possible to drive a few kilometres from our property, leave your car and take a courtesy bus to your chosen ski station, thereby enabling you to try four different ski resorts, including nordic cross country ('ski du fond') areas. Note - for winter sports - if you want a quiet place to chill out after activity we are for you - if you want the apres-ski, bright lights, constant noise and extra expense of a ski resort we are not for you!

Location description from owner

The Provence region

The Hautes Alpes area is situated at the Southern end of the French alpes. It is not widely known to many tourists, although it is well-frequented by caneoists, kayakers, walkers, skiers, cyclists and mountaineers, who are well catered for, with many opportunities for all these activities. The mountain biking is some of the best in Europe and the Tour de France regularly passes through the area en route to the famous Cols de Galibier, Lautaret, and Izoard. Le Tour will be in Gap this year for three days in July. The climate is a typical mountain one. Snow in the winter, highish temperatures (mid to upper twenties) in the summer with cool Springs and Autumns. All this interspersed with rain at times.

Chateauroux-les-Alpes

Chateauroux les Alpes is a large village, situated in the Rabioux Valley between the National Parks of the Ecrins and Queyras. There are mountain peaks surrounding the village of up to 2500 metres, from which you can frequently see paragliders. The village itself boasts two restaurants, a hotel, a bar/restaurant, post office, grocers/bread shop, tourism office, interest centre for the Ecrin National Park, pizza van (summer only) weekly market in the summer, and a 'mairie'(townhall) with library and wifi centre. 2/3 Km away, in the Rabioux Valley, there is a 'white water' centre with exciting experiences available, passing down the Durance River or kyacking in the Rabioux Wave. A few kilometres away there is another centre appealing especially to small children (entrance 6 euros per day per child, adults free) with bouncy castles, trampolines, water pool with chute, picnics, games, cafe etc. In Embrun at the Plan d'Eau there are many attractions for the whole family - trampoline, fly-jump, swimming in the lake or swimming pool (with large water chute) bicycle and boat hire, crazy golf, bouncy castles in and out of the water. There are frequent markets and festivals throughout the summer in the area. A little further away there is horse riding, paintball, mountain animal zoo, and other activities too numerous to list.
