The England region

The South Cornwall length of coast is relatively sheltered, being either south-east or south facing and being largely in the lee of the large peninsula of the Lizard. Cliffs of moderate height are found along most of the length, and there are numerous intimate little bays and some quite prominent headlands.

In the eastern half of the length the coast is cut by wooded river valleys, at Fowey, Looe and Seaton. In the centre is the major feature of St Austell Bay, the only part that lacks the otherwise ubiquitous cliffs. This bay also has the only major length of coastal development in South Cornwall, based on the town of St Austell and its extensions. Elsewhere, small ancient fishing ports such as Mevagissey, Fowey and Looe are scattered along the coast, all of them very picturesque. Major estuaries, of the Fal and Tamar, mark the two ends, each of them of great historic maritime importance.

West Country

There will be no need to get the car out to find somewhere to good to eat, as within easy walking distance of the cottage there are two pubs which serve food and excellent local ales, as well as a restaurant which specialises in locally caught fish. 'Charlie's' across the road serves breakfasts, light meals and cream teas. You can buy delicious pasties at the local kiosk and locally made ice creams.

There are craft shops, a gift shop and a gallery too. There is also a fascinating Shipwreck and Heritage Centre.

The coast path can be picked up in Charlestown. This offers some of the County's most spectacular view points.

Golfers are very well catered for too - Carlyon Bay golf course , Porthpean golf course and St Austell golf course are all just minutes away.

There is a sailing club at Porthpean, the next village along and, of course there is no shortage of beautiful beaches all within a short driving distance.

The Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are both just a short drive away, as are the towns of Mevagissey and Fowey.

St Austell, just a couple of minutes by car, has all local town amenities, including two 24 hour supermarkets and a mainline (Paddington - Penzance) railway station (1.7 miles) with good connections within Cornwall and beyond.

Slightly further away but still under an hour by car, are Padstow with Rick Stein's restaurants and Jamie Oliver's '15' in Newquay.

“Comfortable, well equipped & ideally located”

Reviewed 25 Sep 2016

We stayed at Pebbledrift Sept 2016, which in a way is towards the end of the season, but this beautifully designed, comfortable, well equipped cottage looked as good as new!! It's well looked after & has everything you need for a stay in Charlestown. We have stayed in two other properties in Charlestown & this is top! Ideally situated to visit all eateries & of course the harbour & its bonus is having a parking space too! Contact with the owner whilst booking was wonderful & clear - however I personally found the website to book a bit confusing.. From the location we easily visited St Austell (a little tired looking these days), Truro - great for shopping, Mevagissey - so picturesque, Looe & Polperro - both done in the one day but great to revisit, & The Eden Project - another great day - been before but always changing.. (Used tesco vouchers to make it cheaper to get in - sort before you go) This is somewhere we certainly hope to book again. Many Thanks.

“Very well equipped cottage in a superb location”

Really enjoyed our stay here in August 2016. Cottage is very well equipped and comfortable. Location was perfect for our family of four. Multiple beaches are in easy walking distances as are numerous pubs, restaurants and supermarket. Beautiful surrounding area and a stunning coastline along the sw coastal path. Bus stop is very close if you want to not use the car.

“Excellent Cottage in a beautiful town called Charlestown”

Reviewed 25 Feb 2016

Had a fantastic stay at the Pebbledrift Cottage. The accommodation is very nicely laid out with ample room to have a relaxing break. Plenty of restaurants and shopping amenities near bye. On arrival we were greeted with the traditional Scones with clotted cream and Jam to make us feel very welcomed. With a car we were able to easily get to locations such as Truro, Padstow and the Eden Project, and with St Austell train station very close by we were able to get the train to St Ives. A thoroughly enjoyable week in an exceptional cottage with all the comforts of home and accessed to many coastal walks/paths. A great week at Pebbledrift Cottage..
