Description from owner

Description

Charleston House is the oldest building in Gairloch and is listed with historic Scotland and it maintains much of it's original charm and character. It is ideally situated overlooking the harbour where you can see otters and seals when the tide is in and lots of wading birds when it's out. You may also see Sea Eagles flying over the house.
The house is very spacious providing an ideal get away for family and friends as there are plenty of large rooms to gather in whilst 4 of the 5 bedrooms have freeview if you want some private time. All rooms overlook the harbour. The snug (complete with log burner) proves to be very popular, especially after a days hill/ mountain walking or perhaps sailing, you have access to the slipway. The house has an ice machine to help make the perfect cocktail.
If you like to cook you will really enjoy the professional and well equipped kitchen which leads through to a large dining room with beatiful wooden flooring and a table to sit 10.

There is outside furniture in the yard out the back which proves to be a little sun trap. It also has a BBQ.
5 minutes walk away from a beautiful sandy beach, golf course, pub serving locally sourced food, marine boat trips, pony trekking, waterfall. Other places of interest in the local area include the Inverewe Gardens, Ben Eighe Nature Reserve, Loch Maree. It is well worth the drive out to these places as the roads are spectacular with long open stretches set in the most beautiful scenery, they often attract the Lotus Club.

Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Due to the gulf stream Gairloch has it's own micro climate allowing Palm Trees to grow in the beautiful Inverewe Gardens which is a 10 minute drive from the house. Unforgettable sunsets across the Minch to the Western Isles and the dramatic backdrop of the Torridon mountains. The rich mixture of landscapes including sandy golden beaches, mountains (including some of the munros) and forests provide the perfect habitat for some rare and wonderful wildlife. Around the house you can often see Pine Marten, Otters, Seals, Badgers, Golden and Sea Eagles, Curlew, Red Shank amongst others. Gairloch and the surrounding areas offer some prime locations to fish.

“Lovely home in a lovely location”

Reviewed 17 Apr 2013

From the moment I enquired about the house to the booking the service we received from Catherine the owner was top notch. When we arrived we felt like we were home. It really is like staying in your own private hotel. A very well equipped property in a lovely location, very spacious with fabulous walks on your doorstep. I love cooking so I was in my element in the professional kitchen and the snug was a lovely place to chill. Our very own pub without leaving the house. The house is also literally a stagger from the local pub the old Inn where we ate a couple of times. Nice food and atmosphere. Further a field the Melvaig Inn is worth a visit and Na Mara in Strath (2 miles) is a must. Our favourite walks were Fairy Loch and Flowerdale as well as the Light house. We will definately be back. Probably one of the best Scottish holidays we have had.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I am delighted that you enjoyed your time and it's always nice to hear guests call it a home. That really makes me smile. You were a pleasure to have and do hope you return. Many sincere thanks Catherine
