Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

A beautiful part of France in the golden triangle. Plenty of interesting places to visit, including old towns such as Beynac, Rocque de Gageac, Brantome and Sarlat. There are castles and old caves with guided tours that are worth checking out.

The summer months are warm and ideal for just putting your feet up and sunbathing, whilst Spring and Autumn temperatures are still ambient enough to keep your T shirts on.

Larger towns worth a visit are Perigueux with its fabulous cathedral and Bergerac famous for Cyrano

Chanterac

Riberac is a small town very popular with English visitors and residents. The Friday market is a must for every visitor, selling among other things fine foods, such as fish, cheese and of course wine.
Brantome with its nearby castle of Bourdeilles, set on a river is a place that is recommended and offers a boat trip and one can rent a canoe.

Many local towns and villages have festivals in the summer, which can include barbecues, fairgrounds, vide greniers( a type of car boot sale) lots of fun for children and at night a spectacular firework display.
We will provide all visitors with details of activities.

“Wonderful peaceful holiday”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2013

Just back from a very relaxing fortnight in Keeper's Cottage. The Domaine is very impressive as you drive up - just how you imagine the perfect French country house. The gîte is very comfortable with spacious bedrooms and a lovely cool interior - very welcoming when the temperature hit the high 30s. Everything you need is provided and Colin and Jenny also had a little welcome pack waiting so we didn't have to race off to the supermarket as soon as we landed. There is also a beautiful private peaceful garden much bigger than I had expected and full of butterflies and birdsong. We ate all our meals there and I could happily have stayed all day – except there is also a fab pool. It was the perfect place to sunbathe or read in the shade. Best time was 7pm when it had cooled off a bit and the resident swallows swooped low over the water for a quick dip. From Keeper’s Cottage it's a 15 min drive to Riberac which has good shops, restaurants and a huge Friday market. There is also a nice friendly place to hire canoes and paddle along the tranquil green River Dronne watching the giant turquoise dragonflies. Half an hour in the other direction and you’re in Perigueux a charming town with a beautiful cathedral and lively atmosphere at night. Easy day trips include the Prehistoric Caves at Rouffignac, Lac Jemaye which has a little beach and forest trails and the interesting towns of Brantôme and Aubeterre sur Dronne. Driving was easy on almost deserted roads. This was our first visit to the Dordogne and I thought maybe our two teenagers would find it too quiet but after GCSEs and Uni exams they were both happy to just chill. Colin, Jenny and the extended family are the perfect hosts – there when you need them for a friendly chat but privacy too. And the animals, especially the four big soft dogs just add to the experience. A great holiday.

“Fantastic location for a family holiday.”

We all had a wonderful holiday here & will return next year for sure. Colin, Jenny, Michele & Snowy made us feel incredibly welcome & were brilliant with the kids. The accommodation is spacious, well equipped & immaculate. There are loads of animals which the kids loved, the pool & gardens were great as well. We really couldn't fault anything & would strongly recommend it to anyone.

“Absolutely Fabulous!!”

Having stay here the previous year, certainly says alot for a start! Lovely location, plus Colin, Jenny and family really make this a holiday to remember - like being part of their family! There are so many local things to do and see plus you could stay on the 'farm' for days without even exploring further! Ideally suited to families of all ages plus individuals who are looking for a relaxing and restfull stay or alternatively help out with all the animals - Horses etc We certainly love it and will be back soon
