Description

CHATEAU du PORT HUBLE

Built in the 18th century around older 17th and 16th century buildings, at a time when the region was a rich cognac area, the 3 story chateau dominated the surrounding vineyards right down to the banks of Charente river.

Victim of a dreaded insect from Africa in 1870, the wineyards in the area were decimated. The Chateau had many owners following the demise of the vines and gradually fell into decay before recently being restored.

A staircase dating back to the 16th or 15th century has now been restored and put into use. Certain rooms have a very medieval feel (Medieval Lounge- Chai) with stone walls and stone floors, whereas other rooms have more of a renaissance feel. (Salon Bleu dining room). The entry hall has wooden wall pannelling that dates back to 1605.

There are 5 ground floor rooms :

- Chai: with its stone floor and huge fireplace,

- Kitchen : well equiped with modern appliances,

- Salon Bleu : dining
