The Limousin region
The Limousin is a region full of lakes and rivers and is excellent for fishing, kayaking and water play. This is where you find fresh farm goods: duck, geese, the famous Limousin Beef. A visit to the local Limoges Porcelin factory is always fun. Visit an art exhibit at the local castle Sedieres, hear music in a cathedral, sample the many jams and honeys that are produced locally...and of course, the bread and pastries of the bakeries.
Our local village, Chamberet, has a lovely 12th century church as well as fine dining, yummy pizza and The Maison des Arbres-an arboretum with more tree species than anywhere in France. Treignac is a celebrated picturesque medieval city, the local Lac de Barriousses and several wonderful chocolatiers and pastry shops.
May & June: usually warm (60-75 degrees) with Spring showers.Very few vacationers at this time so towns and beaches are not crowded.
July & August: warm to hot (70-95 degrees) with occasional thundershowers. A good time to come if you like it warmer with bustle in the towns, markets are selling local goods-wine, cheese, foie gras. There are also lots of regional festivals, such as at the Lac de Vassivieres.
Sept-Oct: Cooling off though often an Indian summer offers a warmer spell.

"A little tranche of heaven!"
Rebeyrolle is a wonderful place to relax in rustic style, eat lots and lots of food, play some badminton, hunt for wild mushrooms, and then eat some more. The little nearby lake is fun for day trips, and there's a great restaurant in Treignac. A great alternative to the pricey madness of Paris.

"the French countryside like it was meant to be"
I brought my 16 y.o. son and a friend of his and we joined several other families for an incredibly relaxing perfect vacation. We went to the nearby beach/lake almost every afternoon and shopped in the local stores (and bakery!) making most of our meals together. There's a 17th century (I think) oven in it's own outbuilding and we made the most delicious pizza, some with local mushrooms. Hiking is lovely, and we did day trips to local towns. The summer we were there was very dry, but kayaking still available and the kids all loved that. A perfect place for a multi-family holiday or just to get away and savor a different kind of life.
