Description from owner

Description

Step back in time and relax in front of the lovely inglenook fireplace in this cosy C18th cottage at Exmoor Cottage Holidays, ideal for couples, families & pets. Inglenook Cottage is in a peaceful village location and is very warm & comfortable with character features, private enclosed patio, large children's play area and just five minutes walk from a shop & pub.

Inglenook Cottage (formerly part of "Town Tenement Farm") has the special atmosphere of a building that has been lived in for a long time. It is comfortable & warm having recently been renovated (with modern kitchen & bathroom, insulated walls and double-glazing). The large living room has an attractive inglenook fireplace (with bread oven & salt safe) and multi-fuel stove, comfortable leather seating and Freeview TV. Near the kitchen is a dining area with dining table & chairs.

The separate kitchen is very well equipped with electric oven & hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer, and a stable door leads out to a lovely private enclosed rear patio garden. There is also a small south-facing front garden with a picnic table, ideal for al fresco dining.

There are three bedrooms upstairs, a double, a single and a king-sized (or twin utilising a ziplink bed). The bright, modern bathroom has a bath, separate shower, handbasin & WC.

No-one can get bored at Inglenook Cottage. If the free WiFi and nearly 100 Freeview TV channels aren't enough there are many books, games & DVD's, and three acres of grounds to explore (with wild-flower meadow, wildlife pond, and large children's play area with two towers, bridge, swing, slide, climbing board & net, fireman's pole, etc). Watch the birds in the front garden under the magnificent Wisteria, or enjoy a family picnic in the grounds which has lovely views of Exmoor.

A cot, high chair, fire guard and stair gate are available free of charge, and towel sets available for hire (£5 per set of bath towel and hand towel). Dogs are very welcome (£18 per stay for each dog) and there is a lovely walk through the grounds where they can run off-lead. Hand-soap, cleaning materials and tea towels are provided, and a welcome pack with many essentials (until you can get to a shop) including a basket of logs & kindling, tea, coffee, sugar, fresh milk, bin bag, toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner & matches.

Inglenook Cottage is in the quiet and peaceful village of Challacombe and within the Exmoor National Park. Within 300 yards is an excellent pub with award-winning food and real ales, and a handy general shop and Post Office with delicious home-made cakes. Challacombe has excellent local walks and is an ideal central location from which to explore Exmoor, the sandy beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde, and the spectacular coastline of North Devon & Somerset.

Inglenook Cottage is one of five holiday cottages (known as "Exmoor Cottage Holidays") converted from a former farm. The cottages form a 'U' shape around a charming courtyard and each has a log burning stove and a private enclosed garden. The other four cottages (sleeping 1-6 people) are all available separately, please look under "Challacombe". The owners, John & Melanie Moore, like to greet all customers personally and are at the cottages most days to feed the birds and help you plan your day.

Getting around

Car drives offer the best flexibility for seeing the sights and getting around in our area. There is a taxi company in the village for tours. Alternatively there are many walks from the cottage door - including a short walk to the shop/Post Office and local pub (with award winning food).

Interaction with guest

John & Melanie welcome each guest personally and are usually on-site to help you get the very most from your stay (and to feed the birds!). We have lived in the area since 1997 and can advise the best walks, places to visit, restaurants, local attractions, etc. and show you them on an Ordnance Survey map (which you may borrow). We can help light the fire in your cottage, show you how to keep it going, and liaise with local businesses - and we usually have some special offers just for our guests.

“We just keep coming back!”

Reviewed 7 Oct 2018

This must have been our 4th or 5th stay in Inglenook Cottage - so perhaps that speaks for itself! The cottage is very well equipped but full of original character - it is always cosy and warm. We always feel instantly at home when we open the door. The owners are delightful and so helpful but also give you plenty of space. The area has so much to offer - beautiful beaches, rugged coastline, woods and stunning moors. The local pub is excellent and 200 yards away. We have booked again for May and September 2019...enough said!

Owner's reply: Thank you for your great review! We are always happy to have returning guests and we loo forward to welcoming you again (twice) next year. We try to advise of great places to go and things to see - we are pleased that it helps. Our location is super - we are indeed very lucky to have the beautiful area to explore. See you in 2019 - Best wishes Melanie and John

“If you love Exmoor, you will love Inglenook Cottage!”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2017

We have just spent a wonderful week on Exmoor staying at Inglenook Cottage, Town Tenement Farm in the village of Challacombe. We wish we could have stayed longer. On our arrival we were given a warm welcome by our host Mrs Moore. Inglenook Cottage is very comfortable and well equipped with everything one could possibly require. There is a sunny private courtyard garden and on rising ground behind the cottage a beautifully maintained lightly wooded area for children to play and a separate dog exercising area. Challacombe has an excellent dog friendly pub with excellent staff and serving superb meals and ales. If you love Exmoor you will love Inglenook Cottage and Challacombe as a base to stay. Very highly recommended!!!

Owner's reply: Thank you for your very lovely review. We are so glad that you had a good stay in Inglenook Cottage and enjoyed Challacombe village and the food and drink at our local pub! We look forward to seeing you again.

“Beautiful, peaceful location”

Reviewed 19 Jun 2017

We have just returned from spending an exellent week at Inglenook Cottage. The cottage was extremely well equipped especially with all the little things you sometimes forget or aren't sure if they are provided like washing powder, dishwasher tablets, fairy, toiletries, tea-towel etc. etc. Challacombe is a lovely sleepy Exmoor village with a shop/post office, village pub a few houses, holiday lets, stream and ford. The North Devon coast is only about a 10-15 minute drive away. The owners are a lovely family who give a personal service. They are on site if you require any information and are very knowledgeable about the whole area. The village pub is very popular with diners as they serve exellent food. The cottages are very dog friendly, exellent walking on site and in the area. Our week at Inglenook Cottage was superb and we will return.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for your wonderful review. It was lovely to meet you and chatter with you too. We are glad that you were comfortable in Inglenook Cottage and had chance to enjoy some of the many delights of this beautiful area. We look forward to welcoming you (and your very charming dog) back soon.
