Chalford - the Alpine Village of the Cotswolds: Chalford is in some of the most beautiful countryside in the whole range of the Cotswolds. Nestled in the Golden Valley, one of Stroud's Five Valleys, Chalford is described as the Alpine Village due to its deep, well-wooded valleys. A walkers paradise with beauty around every corner.

Chalford was once a centre for the wool industry, with many beautiful old mills dotted through the valley, and the old Thames and Severn Canal running along the Valley bottom. Many houses you still can't drive to and in the past, the community of Chalford have delivered groceries by donkey! In the village is a small shop run by volunteers selling a selection of lovely organic goodies and a short walk away are some great pubs for beer, wine, good food and stunning sunsets.

The Cotswolds : The Cotswolds is 'quintessentially English' and still unspoiled. From Chalford and beyond you can enjoy the honey-coloured stone of the area, the dry-stone walls, the beautiful manor houses and quaint cottages both on and off the tourist trail. Nearby are a myriad of activities from lazing around close to home, walking the Cotwold Way or the Five Valleys, enjoying the sights and shops of nearby places including Bath, Cirencester, Stow-on-the-wold, Oxford or Bibury, playing golf, visiting Cotswold Wildlife Park, Prinknash Abbey or frolicking in The Cotswold Water Park ....

Please note: There is also a beautiful 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom loft available to rent either with the Cottage or separately.

“Friendly, very comfortable cottage”

Reviewed 14 Dec 2016

We stayed in the Cottage for a birthday celebration with some friends and it was the perfect location. The Cottage was very cozy, clean and comfortable and Anna the owner, had gone to great lengths to help us get the necessary requirements to celebrate a birthday! We absolutely loved it - after bracing walks it was a delight to get back to. We plan to return with the children next time!

Owner's reply: Thank you and come back soon!

“Relaxing and beautiful”

Reviewed 3 Mar 2014

We arrived at the cottage and instantly fell in love with the place. It felt so warm and cozy and just what we wanted for a relaxing couple of days and the wood burner was a nice little touch too :). We went for long walks which there was plenty of them to do, would highly recommend and we shall be returning.

“Just Perfect!”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2014

We absolutely loved our stay in The Cottage and our host, Anna, was very welcoming. The accommodation was delightful, well appointed and very comfortable for our family. Its location made a great base for exploring the Cotswolds, although there were few places we visited that were as delightful or peaceful as Chalford itself and our only regret is that we didn't spend more time taking in this great location. Given the opportunity, we would definitely stay here again.

“Charming cottage in great location for exploring the Cotswolds”

Reviewed 12 Nov 2013

Excellent self catering accommodation in historic building and very good base for exploring the Cotswolds. We (me and my parents) spent a weekend in Chalford and the cottage was in a great location not too far from the main attractions of the Cotswolds (we went to Chipping Campden, Batsford Arboretum, the Slaughters), and also has some lovely villages (+pubs) and countryside nearby (Bisley, Sapperton canal and we had dinner on Sunday at the Bell in Sapperton - great food). The cottage was very tidy and well equipped, cosy bedrooms and very nice living dining/living room. Although due to the weather we couldn't sit outside, the front garden looked very inviting. Very quiet location at the edge of the village, and the trains that passed by on the nearby viaduct added to the atmosphere.

“Excellent accomodation in a wonderful location.”

Reviewed 30 May 2013

On arrival we were greeted warmly by the owners Anna and Chris who were welcoming, kind and appropriately attentive throughout our stay. The Cottage had a good combination of character features with all the key facilities needed for a very comfortable stay away from home. The location was wonderful, we could not believe our luck! The village of Chalford is just perfect for a quiet country retreat away from the main tourist areas of the Cotswolds. In easy walking distance from The Cottage are a lovely pub and bakery / coffee shop too. There are also some great art / craft studios newly opened and we could not resist buying a few lovely pieces. For all the family there are lovely walks right from the front door and a super little play park for the kids. There are many lovely villages and towns of the Cotswolds within an easy driving distance. We spent a day driving around reaching all our key destinations with ease. This was such a great find and look forward to returning soon.

“Beautiful, homely cottage in amazing surroundings”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2013

I travelled to this cottage with my boyfriend and two friends of ours (all in our twenties) and we had such a wonderful long weekend! Chalford village is enchanting and feels like you have stepped back in time a little. Big hills and rivers, ducks and geese walking about and loads of fantastic walks and only a few minutes drive from both Stroud and Nailsworth. The cottage itself is so charming! We felt at home right away, Anna who owns the cottage is lovely and welcoming and they'd even put a Christmas tree up. We found everything we needed to cook with etc and the heating is great for such an old building, we were never cold. Lovely comfy beds too! We spent a few very happy nights in front of the wood burner drinking wine and playing guitar :) we didn't want to leave and will definitely be back!!

“Can't wait to come back!!!”

Reviewed 27 Dec 2012

We arrived late and even though it was dark the directions were so clear we found it easily. No hassles and we could park right outside the front door. The cottage was clean, comfortable and very cosy. What was a really nice touch was the basket of supplies which we asked Anna to arrange in advance. A beautiful cottage with everything you need for a fabulous break. Even in December it was nice and warm as the wood burner is very effective. We went for great walks with plenty of pubs on the way.... Although our teenagers moaned about having to go into the countryside, they really enjoyed it as there was plenty to do. We'll definitely return!
