Description from owner

Description

This elegant farmstead is located in the most coveted region of central Tuscany. Strategically positioned in the middle of the Golden Triangle - Florence, Siena and Pisa - it sits on top of a hill. Capanna Olivo takes its name from the vast groves of olive trees that surround it in every direction, and will impress its guests with stunning views. Every window boasts an incomparable view of the surrounding landscape. Whether lying in bed or at the pool you will enjoy views of the gentle rolling hills leading to the ancient towers of San Gimignano. The silver-grey of the olives blends with the dark green of cypresses, creating a spectacular show of colours. The surrounding landscape resembles the background of Renaissance paintings admired in the paintings of Leonardo, Botticelli and Benozzo Gozzoli. The guests are free to stroll through the olive groves and adjacent vineyards, and sample the Chianti wines and olive oil produced by the family-owned farm. The farm organises wine tastings

The farm organises wine tastings free of charge in the nearby wine cellar, and the recently awarded Super Tuscan wine is excellent.

The property consists of three buildings: the detached house Capanna Olivo offered here, the villa with tower of the property owner and adjecting to it a farmhouse transformed into four apartments (Villa Olivo / also featured in our portfolio). Capanna Olivo with sun pouring in through the French windows, its pastel colours and stunning views is the perfect place for an unforgettable vacation. The large terrace is wonderful for al fresco dining, and every day the sunset is the very special event. A private path leads to a magnificent Mediterranean style swimming pool with roman steps. The pool is conjointly used with the guests of Villa Olivo. On return from a day out, you can relax here whiling away late summer afternoons with a favourite novel.

At walking distance there are a family-owned Tuscan Restaurant (bring a torch if you like to walk - as the street is not illuminated), a mini-market and one of the oldest churches of the region. Just a few miles down the hill there is Certaldo Alto, the picturesque, walled medieval hilltop town renowned for being the birthplace of the poet and writer Giovanni Boccaccio, the author of "The Decameron". Here you can dine in one of the many local restaurants known for their delicious Tuscan food. In Certaldo the guests may attend music concerts und cultural festivals. For longer day trips and lovers of the Italian Renaissance, Florence, Volterra, Siena and Pisa are all within one hour driving distance.

The villa's location only 8 km from the railway station of Certaldo is a good base to visit Florence and Siena even without a car: You can park your car in Certaldo (free parking behind the railway station) and take the train in both directions. During the week, trains to Florence/Siena and back go regularly (approx. every 1.5 or 2 hours). The train ride takes less than one hour. In Florence the train will take you to the main train station which is right in the centre of Florence - it is just a short walk from the station "Santa Maria Novella" to the Cathedral or the Uffizi. In Siena the railway station is located approx. 3 km from centre, and you have to take a bus to reach the old town on top of the hill. One hour of driving takes you to the sea.
