Henshaw House has been recently renovated to a high standard with new carpets, flooring, quality furniture and fittings. It is located a comfortable 12 minute stroll from York's historic city walls in a quiet development, in an elevated position (unaffected by recent floods), ideal for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city centre, and overlooks a pleasant central green.

This luxurious centrally-heated semi-detached house has 2 allocated off-street parking spaces, 3 bedrooms, 1 en-suite shower room, 1 family bathroom, 1 downstairs WC, a good-sized kitchen-diner, comfy and stylish lounge, as well as free WIFI. There is also free on street parking available, especially at weekends. Some guests have managed to park three cars in the allocated spaces.

Perfect for families, friends and couples, the house comfortably sleeps four people with 1 double bed and 2 single beds. There are 3 bedrooms. You are welcome to bring a baby as well. You are welcome to bring your own travel cot; we do not supply this for health and hygiene reasons. We have a booster feeding seat available which straps on to a dining chair. We welcome children and babies of any age.

The house provides all quality linen, towels, complimentary soap, shampoo and conditioner, along with tea, coffee, fresh milk, sugar and biscuits.

There is a good sized garden with attractive plants and garden furniture provided, along with a retractable washing line.

The lounge is furnished with a two-seater leather sofa, one large snuggler armchair and one regular sized armchair. The 32" flatscreen HD Freeview TV has an integral DVD player, and we have plenty of good quality films, books and board games to keep you entertained. All three bedrooms have good quality mattresses, comfy sprung-slatted beds, bedding and black-out curtains. All bath sheets and hand towels are provided. There are safety restrictors on upstairs windows to keep children safe and a night light on the landing. Most of the furniture is attached to the walls to make it safe for children and avoid any toppling incidents. We provide a travel stair gate, clothes airer, ironing board and iron.

The ensuite has pleasant white fittings and a walk-in shower with good quality electric shower and chrome heated towel rail and a window.

The family bathroom has a bath with quality thermostatic riser power shower over it, shower screen, white fittings and heated chrome towel rail and window.

Two hairdryers and hair straightener mats are also provided.

We also supply an emergency box of supplies that you may have forgotten or may need, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, plasters, deodorant, sewing kit, baby wipes, razors, etc.

If you plan to stay more than a week, then we can offer a full clean and change of linen each week. Week-long stays also have an automatic discount applied.

The house has fully wired-in smoke detectors and a carbon monoxide detector inside the boiler cupboard. We also have a first aid kit and fire blanket in the kitchen.

You are welcome to arrive any time after 3pm on your first day, however late; we have a key box next to the front door, which allows you to let yourselves in; I live in York so can be on-hand if you need help with anything. Most people like the flexibility and privacy of self check-in, so I usually text or email the code to you the day before you arrive. Check out is 10am.

“Wonderful stay in York”

Reviewed 31 Dec 2016

Our family enjoyed a wonderful Christmas stay at Henshaw House. Every possible convenience was provided in a clean, attractive and functional house. The house was an approximate 20 minute walk to the city centre. There was a convenience store, Costa coffee, takeaway food and York hospital within a ten minute walk. The house was perfect for children and adults alike. The kitchen in particular was well equipped, When visiting the fascinating city of York we would recommend this accommodation without reservation.

Thank you very much for your kind words, I am so glad you all had a good Christmas at the house, best wishes, Catherine

Very well presented property. And we loved all the extra touches such as the kit kats and films for a cosy night in..also the milk was an added bonus as we hadnt got sum ha..we all loved our stay here and would probably stay again and that is saying something as we never go to the same place twice..

“lovely house”

I stayed in the cottage for a girlie catch up weekend. The cottage was perfect. Very clean and tidy and with lovely decor. It is also in a perfect location for walking into the town. Unfortunately the weather was not very good and we didn't get a chance to use the lovely garden but we will be back and hopefully next time the weather will be better. Would highly recommend.

I'm so glad you all enjoyed your stay. Thank you for taking the time to leave such a nice review; we would always be very happy to welcome you back!

“Superb house, convenient location, highly recommended”

Reviewed 28 Oct 2015

We stayed at Henshaw House in October for an extended family event in Yorkshire. The house is maybe 10/15 years old, recently refurbished and immaculate and very well equipped. My daughter loved the high quality wifi. The kitchen had most everything we needed and was set up with the basics of foil, tea bags, kitchen roll etc which I had not expected. Parking is very easy around the back there are two spaces. If you are lucky in the evening you may get parked at the front door. The owner was in regular contact and extremely friendly and helpful. Keys in a little combination lock box beside the front door. There is a Sainsburys at MonksBar about 5 minutes drive away with a huge car park so you can get stocked up. The house is about 20 minutes walk from the centre, easily accessible. We used taxis a lot too as my Mum is over 80 and it was more convenient for us, about £5 into the city. Everything worked well, lashings of hot water in the showers and baths. The house is a terrace and so you have neighbours through the walls on both sides of the house. It is in a little development of flats, houses and hospitals with comings and goings early in the weekday mornings, binmen on a Tuesday around 7am and folks out having a great time on a Saturday night late. If you want to be in the centre of things as we did then these things come with the territory and pose no problems and should not come as a surprise. The house worked superbly for us, I thought it was a gem of a find and great value for money and have no hesitation recommending it whatsoever. We'll certainly be using it again when next in York. Hope the review is helpful. Stuart
