The Yorkshire region

Yorkshire is a historic County of Northern England and is the largest in the United Kingdom. Within the historic county of Yorkshire are areas which are thought to be among the most beautiful in England, due to the vast stretches of unspoiled countryside in the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors. Yorkshire has sometimes been nicknamed Gods own country.

Northern England

York is a walled city, situated at the confluence of the Rivers Ouse and Foss in North Yorkshire The city offers a wealth of historic attractions, of which York Minster is the most prominent, and a variety of cultural and sporting activities. York is a wonderful shopping centre with a very good selection of bars and restaurants. The York Designer Outlet is just outside the City Centre. There are riverside walks and river trips to enjoy and the Museum Gardens are a lovely place to sit and relax.

“Top quality accomodation with a homely cottage feel”

Reviewed 18 Oct 2016

We had a lovely weekend away in Knavesmire Cottage and didn't feel like we wanted to leave! It is so homely and has everything you need for a relaxing stay: the cottage is decorated beautifully but not in an impersonal hotel-style way. There was a lot of noise from traffic at the front of the house but this was worse on the weekdays. However this didn't reduce our enjoyment. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. There are a couple of nice pubs a stone's throw away. We ate at the Fox and Roman pub; the atmosphere was relaxing and the food was really top drawer. Also the local fish and chip shop was great! There is a National Trust property which was really interesting, just across the road called Goddards. All in all a lovely stay: we will definitely return!

“Fantastic shopping visit to York”

Reviewed 16 Dec 2012

Stayed at Knavesmire Cottage for a long weekend and had a wonderful time in York. The cottage is a lovely place to return to after a hard days shopping. Our pampered pooch, Rufus, felt really at home. The cottage seems to have lots of history and atmosphere and was the ideal place to crash out.
