Passing from the bustle of Low Petergate through Talbot Court's fine entrance gates you will be struck first by the serenity of the spacious courtyard and garden beyond, and then by the stunning vistas it affords: not only the towering Minster, and the magnificent Tudor edifice bounding the courtyard itself, but also the mediaeval panorama of the cathedral stonemasons' yard, the Minster Choir School, and Holy Trinity Church. Take the lift to the apartment, and you can delight in the sheer comfort and sophistication that mark it out as one of York's most carefully designed and relaxing holiday venues. It offers a well-proportioned lounge and dining area replete with Bose music system, flat-screen TV and internet access, and a kitchen area fully equipped with dishwasher, washer/dryer, fridge-freezer, espresso machine etc. etc., while the double bedroom with its fine white linen is complemented by a stylish bathroom sporting Villeroy & Boch sanitary ware, soft towels and Molton Brown toiletries.
York Minster — one of the world's largest and finest masterpieces of Gothic architecture —is your immediate neighbour here, and you can feast your eyes on it through the panoramic windows outside your apartment door or from the spacious and peaceful private garden below. Step out through the complex's fine gateway into Low Petergate and you are in the very heart of the city — once the capital of the entire Roman empire, and now a breathtaking mix of ancient and modern, and pretty well everything in between. Within a hundred yards or so you can lift your spirits with heavenly music in the cathedral, quell your hunger with heavenly cakes at famous Betty's Café, or scare your socks off on a guided ghost walk. River boats are close by, as are the fabled authentic odours of the Jorvik Viking Centre. There are excellent restaurants within a few yards of the entrance gate, and many, many more within easy reach, together with wine bars, coffee houses, pubs and clubs to suit every taste, and an exceptional range of fine shops.

The Yorkshire region
Yorkshire is a very special part of England, offering two National Parks (Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors), landscapes ranging from the Pennine Hills through wolds, dales, moors, flatlands and forests right through to a long and beautiful coastline dotted with famous seaside resorts such as Scarborough and Whitby, not to mention the countless fine towns and villages across its length and breadth. There is little chance of your becoming sated with York itself — but if you do fancy a change during your holiday, you couldn't hope for a more diversely appealing hinterland!
York is so famously unique that it scarcely needs an introduction. Once the capital of the entire Roman empire, home to waves of Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, the location of the largest Gothic cathedral north of the Alps, site of one of the most decisive battles of the English Civil War: a city more steeped in history would be difficult to imagine.
Almost entirely encompassed by ancient walls, the central city with its maze of streets and mediaeval alleyways has a stunning range of beautiful buildings from every era: Talbot Court itself is surrounded by ancient buildings, including a spectacular half-timbered Tudor building within its own courtyard, while The Shambles, just a hundred or so yards away, was recently voted the most picturesque street in England, and a very short walk in the opposite direction takes you to the Museum Gardens with their magnificent mediaeval ruins and Roman sarcophagi.
York is not just history, however: it is an extremely lively modern city with all the amenities you might expect, and more: a huge range of restaurants, wine bars, pubs and clubs, a live theatre, an exceptional range of speciality shops. And if all that is not enough, you can walk a few hundred yards to the river and take a leisurely boat trip along the stately River Ouse, before rounding it off with a visit to the world-famous Betty's Tea Rooms — a quintessential York experience!

"Amazing apartment in a fantastic location"
The apartment was just great. I went with two other friends and it is much bigger than it looks in the pictures. The apartment has everything you could need! The location it beautiful and central to everything, we didn't need any taxi's. The owners were so helpful. We were able to drop our bags off early and get changed before heading off to the races, and John so kindly took pictures of us all before we rushed off. On our return the apartment was sparkling and a gift of yorkshire tea and a local tea cake was sat on the side. A lovely touch. We would all go back again!

"Perffaith / Perfect"
A perfect apartment in a perfect location in a perfectly lovely city! The apartment was spotlessly clean, spacious and well equipped. We particularly appreciated the fresh milk and cake which greeted us on arrival. There was even tea, coffee and sugar. The location near the Minster meant that all of the historical centre of York was within easy walking distance. The suggestions given in a letter of greeting were helpful in finding places to eat and also in directing us to an enjoyable service in the Minster on Tuesday for Evensong. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting some of the many historic sights as well as shopping in the independent stores. Such a change from chain stores! We would recommend Talbot Court to friends and family and hope to visit again in the future.
