*** 4 STAR RATED - GRADE 2 LISTED ***

**** PLEASE NOTE - We don't routinely offer two night stays but if you see gaps in our calendar that you would like to book, please don't hesitate to request a quote! ****

Situated in the very heart of the oldest, historic part of the east side of Whitby, The Corner House is one of the oldest properties in Whitby, with a lease first being signed in 1639! We fell in love with, bought and completely refurbished our little seaside getaway in 2014 and have added a wealth of quality fixtures and fittings to it to try to make it feel as homely as possible (and yes, we stay here as often as we can!).

We love the location, as it's perfect for travellers of all ages, as there's no hills, steep steps or cobbles to negotiate with walking sticks or pushchairs but being in the heart of Whitby, we're still within very easy reach of shopping and eating and drinking establishments, as well as being close to attractions and the beach.

Travelling with young children? We've got you covered with all the essentials! A 'Retract-a-Gate' baby gate, a Mama's & Papa's Travel Cot with additional mattress, a Mama's & Papa's high chair and a toddler's training toilet seat - to save you having to try to cram them all into the car! We don't supply the bedding for the travel cot though but we know that you prefer to bring your own anyway.

In the kitchen and open plan living room you'll find that we've gone to town with everything from York stone flooring and granite worktops to a separate drinks cooler (so you don't have to choose between the wine and the milk!), free wi-fi and loads of books, games and DVD's. Nothing has been left out, to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible - including a free bottle of wine!

Upstairs, the shower room has a fabulous, large shower enclosure (big enough for two - if that's what takes your fancy!), with a rainforest shower rose and flexible shower head, along with W.C and vintage wash basin.

Bedroom 1 (The Green Room)

This has the most comfortable king sized metal bed that I've slept in for ages and a gorgeous super king sized, super snuggly, Christy duvet. We've even put a wall mounted television with Freeview and DVD player in there, in case you decide to stay in bed all day! This room also has plenty of storage and great, dual aspect windows with fabulous views of the upper harbour.

Bedroom 2 (The Blue Room)

This is another good sized bedroom with two single metal beds with lovely, super cosy, double sized Christy duvets. Again, we've put a wall mounted television with Freeview and DVD player in there, for when you want to keep the kids quiet! This room also has plenty of storage and the same fabulous views of the upper harbour.

Whilst the cottage does not have its own dedicated parking space, there is a very handy, free, 40 minute, limited waiting bay just outside, which is ideal for unloading your bags and there's a Council run, long stay car park approximately 50 metres away, which provides you with the option of using a 'cashless' parking system (which lets you pay via a mobile app and even reminds you when your ticket is about to expire!) - very handy! Otherwise, further up the street there is free, on street parking.

Location description from owner

The Yorkshire region

Glorious Yorkshire - God's own County! That's been said many times, by very many people - so they can't all be wrong!

Come and visit us here on the Yorkshire Coast, where the moors and rolling hills almost literally meet the sea. With quaint villages surrounding villages greens, cream telephone boxes and thatched cottages.

Golden, sandy, beaches and beautiful blue sea which crashes against cliffs full of fossils from our distant past and horizons which stretch forever.

Central Whitby

Come and visit our Whitby, which is nestled along the banks of the natural harbour at the mouth of the River Esk, Yorkshire's only Salmon river, and see how flawless Whitby jet, made famous by Queen Victoria, is turned into arguably some of the most beautiful jewellery in the world.

Then wander around its narrow streets crammed full of independent traders, selling everything from dog treats to dinosaurs!

The Pannett Park museum and its grisly 'Hand of Glory' is another 'must see'; together with a visit (or two!) to the many local hostelries, where a thriving live music scene can be found.

A short stroll from The Corner House is Whitby Railway Station, where the steam trains of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway will make you feel like you've been transported back in time! Journey through fabulous scenery to visit Goathland, or continue on to Pickering, before returning back to sample some of finest and freshest food Whitby has to offer.

Ice cream, seafood, international cuisine, pie & mash or good, old fashioned, fish and chips can all be found within a short stroll of The Corner House and if you've got room after that, why not treat yourself to coffee and cake in any number of excellent, independently run, cafes.

Up the famous 199 steps you'll find the iconic Abbey and St Mary's church, which was the inspiration behind the most well known of all vampire stories, Dracula.

Whitby's 'not to be missed' festivals and specialist themed events can be found throughout the year - great people watching opportunities!

“Cosy and warm house”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2016

Clean and tidy property located in the centre of Whitby. Communications with Nichola were friendly and helpful. The only 'fun' part was finding a parking spot in the car park a stones throw away, but we were very lucky in finding one. I would happily recommend the Corner House to friends and family and hope to return in the future.

Hi, Thank you for your great review! Yes, it can be great playing the 'find the parking space' game in Whitby but you'll always be able to find one. I'm chuffed to bits that you're planning on coming back to stay with us and that you're going to recommend us to your friends - that is brilliant to hear, thank you very much! You guys are welcome back any time. Cheers, Nichola x

“Perfect little spot”

Reviewed 27 Jun 2016

This was a little gem of a find - lovely cottage in a perfect location. The décor was lovely , the cottage well equipped and the location easy to find.. The communication with the owner was second to none and we were in no doubt that even though we didnt actually meet her - that if there were any issues , they would be resolved in an instant. Only comments I would have for improvement - would be larger towels and either milk provided or the option to purchase a welcome pack - as the complimentary wine is very very much appreciated and a lovely touch - but after a long distance or late night drive then a cup of teas would be perhaps more appreciated . ( and there are no 24 shops nearby). It was my mistake for assuming there would be milk if there was wine so no criticism intended as everything else was perfect - it just would be a suggested extra so to speak. Nevertheless a lovely lovely stay in a lovely place - thank you Nicola. PS Wilfred loved the snug cot bed and high chair too! :-)

Hi, Thank you for your fabulous review, I'm chuffed to bits that you enjoyed your stay (I'm especially pleased Wilfred had a great time too!) I'm annoyed with myself about the towels, as I actually already have them and haven't had the chance to get across - so they are on their way! With regard to the milk, as I'm not on the doorstep, it is difficult to arrange for this to be available, I will have a chat with our housekeeper though, to see if we could work out a reliable way of getting this sorted - watch this space (I'm glad the wine was okay as a substitute though!)! I'm also very happy that you liked what we've done to the place, you and your family are more than welcome back at any time. Cheers, Nichola x

“Everything you could want”

Reviewed 18 Apr 2016

The cottage is fantastic, everything you could want for a comfortable break away is included even down to a complimentary bottle of wine. The location is excellent and if lucky enough to get parked in the council car park your only a stones throw away. On the doorstep is a variety of excellent places to dine out for all price ranges. Highly recommend staying here if visiting Whitby and hope to be back in the future.

Hi, Thank you very, very much for your brilliant review. I'm glad you liked our little cottage by the sea, you're more than welcome back at any time

“Lovely cosy house, great location!”

Reviewed 11 Apr 2016

My husband and I stayed at the Corner House for a week with our little girl. We had a wonderful time, thoroughly enjoyed Whitby and the surrounding area and the location of this property was just ideal. It is very cosy, comfortable and clean and Nicola is a great host! She sent me her mobile number so we could get in touch if we needed anything and was a pleasure to deal with. Great if you are travelling with young children as Nicola provides a travel cot and highchair so you don't need to take everything with you! Overall, lovely little house and would recommend it to anyone planning a visit to Whitby.

Hi, Thank you for your fabulous review! I'm absolutely chuffed to bits that you enjoyed your stay at our little cottage by the sea and yes, we thought providing the travel cot and high chair would come in handy to save guests having to try to cram them into the car, so am glad they were okay for you. I'm so pleased that you enjoyed Whitby too and that you'd be happy to recommend us, that means an awful lot. You and your family are welcome back at any time. Cheers, Nichola x

“Perfect”

Reviewed 29 Mar 2016

The Corner House is perfect. Firstly its in a brilliant location- close to everything- shops, newsagents, pubs, takeaways and restaurants, and despite its roadside location, once you're inside you have peace and quiet thanks to the double glazing. From the outside you might not be wowed (hope nichola doesnt mind me saying that) but once you open the door you can't help but be impressed. The downstairs is far larger than the pictures imply, with quality fixtures and fittings and absolutely everything you need for your stay. Upstairs is great too - really cosy beds, great walk in shower and all good sized rooms. You can see that Nichola has put heart and sole into this business - the accomodation deserves its 4 stars. Finally Nichola the owner has to get her own 5 stars. She responds quickly and efficiently to all communication and it is clear she cares about her visitors. I wish all owners of holiday accomodation followed her lead! Thanks for a great stay is in a brilliant location, ideal for exploring Whitby.

Hi, Thank you for your absolutely fabulous review. I'm completely over the moon that you enjoyed your stay and that you liked our little cottage! I'm also very flattered that you liked the way that I communicate with everyone; I just want folk to have a great stay in our little cottage and know how I would wish to be treated. Lol - I don't mind at all about you thinking the outside doesn't wow - I'll let you into a secret, keeping the exterior clean is akin to painting the Forth Bridge, I'm not allowed to change the colour!! Never mind though, I love the place nonetheless! Thanks again for choosing to stay with us, you guys would be more than welcome back at any time. Cheers, Nichola x

“Excellent find in Whitby”

Reviewed 23 Jan 2016

This is such a good find I'm loathe to share this review with anyone in the fear it will become too popular! Seriously though, the location is superb, right in the heart of the old town. The house is well-equipped and very clean, the bed is extremely comfortable, the shower is enormous and the heating is more than adequate to make it cosy at this time of year. Whitby is one of our favourite places on earth so to find a place this good, and for the price too, is such a bonus. The only reason we give the Corner House four stars is because you take your own toiletries, which we were clearly told, and we forgot some of the essentials! This is often the case when you rent somewhere in Europe and it's by no means a criticism. It helps keep the rental cost down I guess, and that's definitely a plus. So the loss of a star is really our own doing! One other point ... although there are stairs, the living area is on the ground floor off the street. I think my 83 year old mum will manage the stairs as they are not steep and there is a banister and a carpet, so I shall be bringing her next time. You can't go wrong if you want a central base in the old part of Whitby.

Thank you for your review which, to be fair has left me more than a little confused as I'm not sure what more I could have done and why I deserved the loss of the star. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay though.

“Great house, great access, great stay!”

Reviewed 1 Oct 2015

In the heart of Whitby this charming house gives immediate access to all that Whitby has to offer with great places to eat just a short walk away. The accommodation is excellent, clean and comfortable, providing all that is needed. This includes plenty to entertain when staying indoors. Booking was straight forward and the owner was friendly, helpful and easy to contact. We really enjoyed our stay there and hope to return again next year.

Hi, Thanks for your brilliant review. I'm chuffed to bits that you enjoyed your stay at our little cottage and liked what we've done to the place! I'm also over the moon to hear that you are planning on staying again; you're welcome back any time. Cheers, Nichola

“10/10 for The Corner House, Whitby”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2015

We visited Whitby for the Northern Soul Weekender and struck it lucky with our accommodation. The Corner House is a lovely cottage right in the middle of Whitby. Spotless, all the essentials supplied, beds very comfortable, fab shower - all round perfect for our visit. The street can be noisy but the glazing on the windows cancels that out. Would highly recommend and Nichola was great to deal with.

Hi, Thanks for your fabulous review and I'm chuffed to bits that you've enjoyed both your stay and what we've done to our little cottage! You and your friends are welcome back at any time! Cheers, Nichola
