Situated in the very heart of the oldest, historic part of the east side of Whitby, The Corner House is one of the oldest properties in Whitby, with a lease first being signed in 1639! Fully renovated in 2014 with a host of quality fixtures and fittings to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

We love our location, as it's perfect for travellers of all ages with there being no hills, steep steps or cobbles to negotiate with walking sticks or pushchairs. We're still within very, very easy reach of shopping and eating and drinking establishments, as well as being close to attractions and the beach.

Travelling with young children? We've got you covered with all the essentials! A 'Retract-a-Gate' baby gate, a Mama's & Papa's Travel Cot with additional mattress, a Mama's & Papa's high chair, potty and a toddler's training toilet seat - to save you having to try to cram them all into the car! We don't supply the bedding for the travel cot though but we know that you prefer to bring your own anyway.

In the kitchen and open plan living room you'll find that we've gone to town with everything from York stone flooring and granite worktops to a separate drinks cooler (so you don't have to choose between the wine and the milk!), free wi-fi and loads of books, games and DVDs. Nothing has been left out, to make your stay with us as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Upstairs, the shower room has a fabulous, large shower enclosure (big enough for two - if that's what takes your fancy!), along with W.C and vintage wash basin (we haven't got a baby bath right now though, so you may need to bring one).

Bedroom 1 (The Green Room)

This has the most comfortable king sized metal bed that I've slept in for ages and a gorgeous super king sized, super snuggly, Christy duvet. We've even put a wall mounted television with Freeview and DVD player in there, in case you decide to stay in bed all day! This room also has plenty of storage and great, dual aspect windows with fabulous views of the upper harbour.

Bedroom 2 (The Blue Room)

This is another good sized bedroom with two single metal beds with lovely, super cosy, double sized Christy duvets. Again, we've put a wall mounted television with Freeview and DVD player in there, for when you want to keep the kids quiet! This room also has plenty of storage and the same fabulous views of the upper harbour.

Whilst the cottage does not have its own dedicated parking space, there is a very handy, free, 40 minute, limited waiting bay just outside, which is ideal for unloading your bags and there's a Council run, long stay car park approximately 50 metres away, which provides you with the option of using a 'cashless' parking system (which lets you pay via a mobile app and even reminds you when your ticket is about to expire!) - very handy! Otherwise, further up the street there is free, on street parking.

Getting around

As soon as you arrive in Whitby my advice is to leave the car in the car park! Not only because parking spaces are at a premium but because Whitby and its surroundings are brilliant for exploring on foot or via public transport. An open top bus runs from the west side of town up to the Abbey (if you don't fancy the 199 steps!) a regular intervals through the day, as well as scheduled bus services from the station to Scarborough, Sleights, Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay and many other places. There is also the North York Moors Railway, which runs every day from Pickering to Whitby, with its fantastic collection of preserved steam and diesel trains - a must for all the family.

I am always available via text, phone, email or message though, should you need me and my cleaning and maintenance team all live locally, should they need to drop in.

we have just returned from staying at the corner cottage 26th to 30th june ,the cottage was fantastic in all ways , location could not be better close to all amenites , best cottage we have stayed in hope to come back soon , nichola the owner was very helpful - cheers nichola

“Beautiful cottage, very comfortable and tastefully decorated and in a perfect location”

Central location in the heart of Whitby, an ideal base for exploring the town and making the most that Whitby has to offer. No need to use the car unless you want to explore the surrounding area. The cottage was spotless, very comfortable and well laid out. It has been renovated to a very high standard and had everything we needed and more. The wifi worked perfectly which is a bonus if you have teenagers. The communication with the owner was excellent and were were provided with a lot of information and recommendations in relation to parking, shopping and cafes/restaurants. We had a fabulous break and will definitely book again in the future.

Absolutely fantastic position in centre of Whitby, only minutes from the swing bridge with no hills to climb. Lovely cottage with excellent fixtures and fittings. It had everything you would need for a week's stay, although with the number of eateries close by there is no need to cook. Bedding and towels are good quality and it is clear that this is a holiday cottage which has had a lot of love and attention lavished on it. Communications with Nichola were always speedy and friendly, with her going the extra mile to ensure a great holiday. Will be back!

“Cosy and warm house”

Clean and tidy property located in the centre of Whitby. Communications with Nichola were friendly and helpful. The only 'fun' part was finding a parking spot in the car park a stones throw away, but we were very lucky in finding one. I would happily recommend the Corner House to friends and family and hope to return in the future.

“Perfect little spot”

This was a little gem of a find - lovely cottage in a perfect location. The décor was lovely , the cottage well equipped and the location easy to find.. The communication with the owner was second to none and we were in no doubt that even though we didnt actually meet her - that if there were any issues , they would be resolved in an instant. Only comments I would have for improvement - would be larger towels and either milk provided or the option to purchase a welcome pack - as the complimentary wine is very very much appreciated and a lovely touch - but after a long distance or late night drive then a cup of teas would be perhaps more appreciated . ( and there are no 24 shops nearby). It was my mistake for assuming there would be milk if there was wine so no criticism intended as everything else was perfect - it just would be a suggested extra so to speak. Nevertheless a lovely lovely stay in a lovely place - thank you Nicola. PS Wilfred loved the snug cot bed and high chair too! :-)

“Everything you could want”

The cottage is fantastic, everything you could want for a comfortable break away is included even down to a complimentary bottle of wine. The location is excellent and if lucky enough to get parked in the council car park your only a stones throw away. On the doorstep is a variety of excellent places to dine out for all price ranges. Highly recommend staying here if visiting Whitby and hope to be back in the future.

“Lovely cosy house, great location!”

My husband and I stayed at the Corner House for a week with our little girl. We had a wonderful time, thoroughly enjoyed Whitby and the surrounding area and the location of this property was just ideal. It is very cosy, comfortable and clean and Nicola is a great host! She sent me her mobile number so we could get in touch if we needed anything and was a pleasure to deal with. Great if you are travelling with young children as Nicola provides a travel cot and highchair so you don't need to take everything with you! Overall, lovely little house and would recommend it to anyone planning a visit to Whitby.

The Corner House is perfect. Firstly its in a brilliant location- close to everything- shops, newsagents, pubs, takeaways and restaurants, and despite its roadside location, once you're inside you have peace and quiet thanks to the double glazing. From the outside you might not be wowed (hope nichola doesnt mind me saying that) but once you open the door you can't help but be impressed. The downstairs is far larger than the pictures imply, with quality fixtures and fittings and absolutely everything you need for your stay. Upstairs is great too - really cosy beds, great walk in shower and all good sized rooms. You can see that Nichola has put heart and sole into this business - the accomodation deserves its 4 stars. Finally Nichola the owner has to get her own 5 stars. She responds quickly and efficiently to all communication and it is clear she cares about her visitors. I wish all owners of holiday accomodation followed her lead! Thanks for a great stay is in a brilliant location, ideal for exploring Whitby.

“Excellent find in Whitby”

This is such a good find I'm loathe to share this review with anyone in the fear it will become too popular! Seriously though, the location is superb, right in the heart of the old town. The house is well-equipped and very clean, the bed is extremely comfortable, the shower is enormous and the heating is more than adequate to make it cosy at this time of year. Whitby is one of our favourite places on earth so to find a place this good, and for the price too, is such a bonus. The only reason we give the Corner House four stars is because you take your own toiletries, which we were clearly told, and we forgot some of the essentials! This is often the case when you rent somewhere in Europe and it's by no means a criticism. It helps keep the rental cost down I guess, and that's definitely a plus. So the loss of a star is really our own doing! One other point ... although there are stairs, the living area is on the ground floor off the street. I think my 83 year old mum will manage the stairs as they are not steep and there is a banister and a carpet, so I shall be bringing her next time. You can't go wrong if you want a central base in the old part of Whitby.

In the heart of Whitby this charming house gives immediate access to all that Whitby has to offer with great places to eat just a short walk away. The accommodation is excellent, clean and comfortable, providing all that is needed. This includes plenty to entertain when staying indoors. Booking was straight forward and the owner was friendly, helpful and easy to contact. We really enjoyed our stay there and hope to return again next year.

How do damage deposits work?
