Location description from owner

The Yorkshire region

The Yorkshire Coast on the edge of the North York Moors National Park is the perfect destination for relaxing and exploring. With many small costal villages and towns you will not go short of places to visit during your stay.

Northern England

The historic fishing port of Whitby is now a popular holiday resort attracting visitors from all corners of the world. Situated along one of Britain's finest stretches of coastline, with cliffs, fine sandy bays and attractive villages, Whitby has been a port for more than 1,000 years and is still a seafarer's town today. It is unspoilt, bursting with character and quite unique and it has changed little since the days when the famous Captain James Cook lived and worked here. The traditional maritime town with its old cobbled streets, picturesque houses and sandy blue flag beach, is dominated by the cliff-top ruins of the beautiful Abbey. The narrow streets and alleys climbing down to the quayside still bustle, as they have done for centuries, and as folklore and tradition are very much part of the Whitby scene, visitors soon find themselves involved. A great place for a holiday or visit, Whitby is set among fine stretches of coast with spectacular cliffs, beaches and bays.

“80th Birthday Extravaganza”

Reviewed 18 Oct 2016

What a fantastic house for a family get together. Spacious, extremely well appointed and ideally located to explore Whitby. A warm, welcoming home from home. Highly recommended and we'll be going back.

“Fabulous townhouse and great location for a familiy get-together.”

Reviewed 10 Aug 2016

We're currently mid-way through our second stay at Thistlebank, having first visited the property last summer. I cannot praise the quality of this property enough. It is absolutely first-class, with every room in the house having been prepared both sympathetically with the upmost attention to detail. The house is also very spacious - even with 11 of us from four individual families sharing (including four under 10s) not once has it felt like we were under each others feet. The kitchen and cooking facilities are excellent, as is each of the six bedrooms. Similarly, the three main reception rooms - a dining room, main living room and "games" room are all beautiful spaces that make staying in an enjoyable experience when the weather is not so good. The garden is also very pleasant, and is a nice area to have lunch and/or a barbeque, as we have done on both stays. There is also parking spaces for three cars comfortably, or four with careful parking. The owner has also been very helpful and accommodating every time we have met him. The location is also great, from a geographical perspective it's very useful if like us you have part of the family coming from Scotland and others from the south. In terms of local amenities, it couldn't be better. The property is situated 5 min walk from the centre of Whitby, with a large supermarket, pubs, restaurants, ice cream shops and multiple fish and chip shops all of the doorstep. There is also lots to do for both adults and kids within Whitby and short driving distances close by. All I can say is that I would happily come back to this property every year for a vacation!

“Fantastic family Golden Wedding weekend in Thistlebank Townhouse Whitby”

Reviewed 14 Jun 2016

Our Golden Wedding family weekend in one of our favourite resorts of Whitby was made all the more special by staying at Thistlebank Townhouse a fabulous place accommodating the 10 of us easily and very comfortably (such sumptuous beds). From the moment Nathan the owner greeted us we felt at home. He was attentive without being imposing. The house had everything we could wish for and more - the games room was a bonus and with televisions in most rooms we didn't all have to watch football! Very well equipped kitchen and even glasses for our celebration champagne. With parking and within minutes of Whitby harbour we didn't need to drive all weekend. Feel so lucky to have found this amazing property so close to all the amenities of Whitby.

“Beautiful house”

Reviewed 20 May 2014

The House was beautiful and had a lovely welcoming feel. Our bedroom was luxurious and just what I needed after our long walks. Would recommend a stay here with a few friends to unwind. My other half tells me the games room was great although I never actually tried it out. Overall a very relaxing stay and will definitely be boooking to stay again.

“Perfect stay”

Reviewed 20 May 2014

Myself and friends stayed in Thistlebank last weekend and had an amazing time and not just because of the weather. The property was perfect and ideally located in the centre of Whitby so we could walk everywhere. With parking limited in the town we were lucky that the property had 3 parking spaces for our cars. We use all 6 bedrooms and the guys loved the games room with pool table and darts. The ladies enjoyed the bright and spacious kitchen and dining room and plenty of wine was drunk. As a last minute break and for just £1,000 for the 3 nights this was the perfect break in the most perfect of properties. We were lucky to find it through the tourist office in Whitby but have now seen it is available through tripadvisor so would recommend you take a look. We will be back.
