The Yorkshire region

Visit "http://www.discoveryorkshirecoast.com/whitby" for very good information regarding Whitby and the surrounding area.
The Historic City of York with a Designer Outlet "McArthur Glen" on the outskirts is only about an 1hr away with Robin Hoods Bay & Scarborough just a short drive South.
Heart Beat Country, Goathland is only approx' 20 minutes drive away.
8 miles to the North is Runswick Bay, a realtively unknown & beautiful tranquil place and excellent for walkers as it forms part of the Cleveland Way.
There are some wonderful eating houses around Whitby, "Harrys Wine Bar" on the Harbour side is very good, while further a field 1 mile out on the moors road heading towards Middlesbrough is "The Stables" with excellent food.
Not forgetting "The Magpie" famous fish & Chip restaurant just a 2min walk away and Whitbys latest "Witherspoons" which is great for breakfast or a good quality cheaper meal with the usual top branded drinks at knock down prices.

Central Whitby

Whitby is ideally located for walking and visiting local towns and resorts in the vicinity.
The 13th Century Historic Abbey Ruins on the Cliff top overlook the town and Harbour. There are excellent Wine Bars/ traditional ancient Public Houses and of course amusements for the children with us and within us.
Twin Piers protrude from the harbour and after restoration work both can now be accessed. You can go fishing from the Piers, or Boat fishing from the harbour by private charter for approximately £35pp.
Why not venture along the Cliff top beyond the Abbey to Saltwick Bay, here you can get a bite to eat & drink and perhaps go "winkling".
Grosmont only a short drive away welcomes you with a Steam Railway heading to Pickering and sometimes serves lunch onboard on Sundays, this is a journey through beautiful countryside.
There are also occasional Steam engines leaving from Whitby in Summer months and a Santas Special during the Xmas period.

“Beautifully decorated cottage in prime location”

Reviewed 15 Nov 2015

We are frequent visitors to Whitby but this is the first time we have rented somewhere to stay rather than B&B and I would definitely rent again. Beautiful quaint cottage that's decorated to a very high standard. There was however 6 adults so one bathroom was a downside but nothing we couldn't work around. Only slight negative was we had to vacate by 10am so we had to be up early to pack cars etc.

A big thank you for an open & honest review, 10am departure is to leave cottage at its best for others, always negotiable if next guests not in same day and nearly all cottages have the same check out time. Web site states one Bathroom, the Cottage actually sleeps eight but as only the one bathroom limit it to six.

“Amazing cottage great location”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2015

5 stars, has everything you could wish for, plenty of little touches making it feel like home, will definately be booking again in future.

Another very welcomed review, to the point and great in helping other guests decide for themselves on whether to book Gulls Cry, Thank you

“Highly recommended really cosy cottage - outstanding!”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2015

I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Gulls Cry. This outstanding cottage was a real home from home, spotlessly clean and very thoughtfully equipped. Our children loved the cosy attic bedroom, and the sleigh beds in each room were really comfortable. The cottage has a great quality bathroom and is finished to a high standard throughout. It is tucked away in a great location, close to all amenities, but also a peaceful haven from the hustle and bustle. We really enjoyed our stay, and Colin the owner was extremely professional and helpful in his dealings with us. A real 5 star Whitby gem!

A wonderful review much appreciated, we love it when guests highlight the points that allow other users to decide from impartial comments whether to book Gulls Cry.

“Quality cottage, special hidden retreat in whitby”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2015

where do I start. Great location, hidden and quiet, but rjst a few moments from the harbour. Loved the hidden private court yard, enjoyed a few bbq,s there. The kitchen was full of cottage charm but very modern. We loved the living room, beamed ceilings, open fire with logs, so lovely. The bedrooms are all furnished lovely, quality shower a plus too. Spotlessly clean. Colin was helpful right from the first enquiry. When staying in Whitby , I will only want to stay at gulls cry. It doesn't,t matter if you get a wet day in Whitby, when you are staying in such a lovely cottage.

Were overwhelmed by such a thoughtful & wonderful review. We work really hard to maintain standards and when guests appreciate Gulls Cry as these have, it makes it all worth while.

“A real oasis!”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2015

What a gem. This is a beautiful cottage, a real oasis located in the centre of Whitby near all facilities. It was spotlessly clean, comfortable and well equipped. The information from Colin, the owner, was excellent, he gave us tips of what to do and see around Whitby. We felt as if we had a really personal service. We were lucky and had brilliant sunshine all week so being able to eat outside in the courtyard was a real bonus. Morning coffee in the summerhouse - lovely! I bet the cottage is great at Christmas too!

What a fantastic review for us and much appreciated pointing out positive points for other guests to pick up on and enjoy.

“Cottage as described - great location - good value”

Reviewed 26 May 2015

Cottage as described - outside space equally nice as inside. Great central location. Owner really helpful - would stay again

We've concentrated this year trying to make the Court Yard & Summer House a better outdoor space. We will not rest and continue to invest in Gulls Cry to make it an even better place year on year.

“Great time in Whitby”

Reviewed 23 May 2015

A well appointed and beautifully modernised cottage with the added advantage of being close to the town centre and the many attractions of Whitby. Colin, the proprietor was very helpful and provided us with lots of useful background information.

Another really appreciated 5* review which hopefully speaks for itself thanks to kind guests continued positive feedback.

“Lovely Cottage, Great Location”

Reviewed 10 May 2015

We had a lovely weekend with the family at Gulls Cry Cottage. The location is great just a few minutes from the harbour, pubs and shops. The cottage is spotless and beds are comfortable. Colin was very helpful. Just wish we could have stayed longer.

It's down to reviews such as this that hopefully encourage other guests to try Gulls Cry for themselves. We've now added Goose Down Toppers to the Double Beds for a luxurious nights sleep in what was already very comfortable beds. With Summer looming the BBQ and New Summer House will I hope enhance stays at the Cottage even more.

“A little Whitby gem”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2015

Myself and my husband stayed here recently for 3 nights at the end of March with another couple who are good friends. I spent a long time prior to booking trying to find some accommodation in Whitby that met all our criteria (two double beds, central, and that would let for less than a full week) when I came across this little gem! Gulls Cry is a perfect base to spend time in Whitby, it is in a great location so everything is within walking distance and a really beautiful place to stay. You can tell a lot of time and thought has been put into making this such a great rental property, it was short of nothing in terms of kitchen equipment! Our only disappointment was no dishwasher but I wouldn't rate it lower just because of that, it is just personal preference. The bedrooms were small but that was to be expected in a cottage but very comfortable and cosy, the bathroom is very clean and modern and the shower nice and powerful. Colin was friendly and helpful with lots of knowledge to offer on Whitby but we had already made plans so had booked a restaurant well in advance for the Saturday evening. All in all I would certainly recommend Gulls Cry for a Whitby base to anyone looking for somewhere beautiful to stay!

As always I take serious note and try and achieve satisfaction for constructive comments but alas no room left for a Dish Washer. It's refreshing to see all else was ok and just a little disappointing that this is the 1st 4* review rather than 5* since we started letting, more so if only down to missing Dish Washer. In the next refurb' I will consider. We have just opened a Summer House so hopefully do keep improving.

“Perfect Cottage for a Great Winter Weekend Away with friends!!”

Reviewed 26 Nov 2014

Fantastic cottage right in the centre of Whitby. Very clean and beautifully decorated to a high standard, with very comfy beds. I would definitely recommend this holiday rental to others and will hopefully go back for a visit next year. This was a great cottage for a winter weekend away with friends, the cosy log burner and the extra touch of Christmas decorations made it perfect!! The communication with the owner Colin was very good, he was very helpful and informative throughout the whole booking experience.

Thank you so much for pointing out that you intend to return which paints a very good picture for future guests. The hopefully tasteful Xmas Decorations are now put out each year to enable guests to get into the spirit of Xmas as soon as possible. Here's hoping all our guests enjoy Gulls Cry as you have and may we wish all past, present & future guests a Very Merry Christmas Kind regards Colin
