"Beautiful setting and very comfortable accommodation"
We spent a week here and found the cottage met all our needs. The free wifi was great for catching up with friends and relies and being able to cook our own meals after several weeks of cruising was a real bonus. Excellent hot water service and a very comfortable bed. Only a few minutes from Whitby town and a great base for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors and experiencing the NYMR. Very nice touch to have fresh milk in the fridge and tea and coffee available on arrival. We found the big Sainsburys a short distance away on the Scarborough Road very good for our food shopping and no problem with free parking.
Thank you for your review. We're glad all went well on your trip from Australia. We hope all goes well with the rest of your journey too. It was nice that you travelled on the old steam train which bypasses our cottage as it travels by on the other side of the river. Thanks for the photograph of the cottage you sent through via email too as you passed by in the train too.

20 min. walk from central Whitby over old viaduct / cinder track. Holiday home was comfortable with all amenities. For groceries, Sainsburys was just 4 min. away by car.
We think Sainsbury's may also deliver too, so we say, "why not use the cottage Wi-Fi and save yourselves some hassle" Anything to make life easier Regards Mike & Louise

booking was easy and deposit was refunded the day after departure. beds were very comfortable house was clean with plenty of cookware. house in an amazing location by river. doors took time to get used to unlocking with key. you can walk into town along cinder track but would recommend a taxi as it took us 25 mins to walk into town. very steep hill to climb to gain access to cinder track. booking of taxi essential as there are huge queues at taxi rank at the weekend
Thanks for your review. Glad all was OK and that you enjoyed our cottage. Re beds - we bought one of these type of mattresses for our own house and it was so good we bought a further seven for the holiday cottages. It cost a fortune but all we have had since is praise for 'sleep quality' from our guests. There's nothing worse than a bad nights sleep. Thank you again. Mike & Louise

"Amazing location - so peaceful"
The cottage is home from home. Nothing is missing. Plenty of storage in kitchen and bedrooms. Pots and pans in abundance. Location is amazing, so peaceful and the wildlife is something else, but only 10 minutes from the centre of the bustling harbour. 2 large supermarkets within a 5 minute drive. Thought it was lovely to walk in after a stressful journey to find coffee, tea and fresh milk waiting to make a refreshing drink and the beds made up.
Thank you for a nice review. We're glad you enjoyed your stay at our cottage.Riverside Cottage is in a great location. I just wish we had the time to stay there a bit more!

"Short Break at Riverside cottage in February"
Short Break at Riverside cottage in February We recently stayed at Riverside Cottage in Whitby and as soon as we walked in the door we knew that we had made a good choice. The property smelled clean and fresh on arrival. Everything was neat tidy and also very clean. (my wife always checks bathrooms & kitchens etc). There was free coffee, milk etc left out for us which was appreciated as we'd had a long journey. The cottage has 3 good sized bedrooms, two of which are doubles, 2 bathrooms and there's also 3 toilets, one on each floor which saves a lot of legwork by not having to keep running up and down stairs. You can see the river from any window in the property and the views are amazing. The river is still tidal at this point and so the scene is constantly changing throughout the day. Outside are well kept lawns and for families with young children there is an outside play area 50 metres away. You have your own balconey to sit out, look at the woodland scenery and watch the river flow by. We had a few cold nights but the house was always warm when we were there so no problem at all. There is an old Victorian Viaduct which towers above the river and the views from the top of the Viaduct are impressive. I would say to anyone thinking of staying here, bring a camera. All of us enjoyed our stay and we thank the owners for renting out this first class property to us. we have no hesitation in recommending this self catering accommodation to others. Riverside gets 5 stars from us without hesitation
Many thanks for your kind review of Riverside Cottage. We're glad that you enjoyed your break and also that we helped you do just that by ensuring our cottage was perfect for your needs. We offer a good selection of short breaks throughout the year and also many special offers in both Riverside Cottage and our Awd Tuts Cottage. We invite anyone to look at our own website and view both offer pages for each cottage. There's nearly always a deal to be had whether it be 'free night's' or reduced prices. Regards Mike & Louise

"Peaceful haven - home from home - and great walking distance to nearby pubs"
We stayed as three couples away for week together in North Yorks moors and have just had a terrific time in this very well-equipped holiday home. From arrival to departure we had a great time and found everything we needed in the house including fab kitchen, spacious living and dining areas and Sky TV! Wine was welcome touch on our first late arrival night. One of couple had fun in bunk beds room - obviously meant for children but also suitable and long enough for a 6ft tall rugby player! Location was great and we all walked into and rolled back out of Whitby town several times during the week. One night the girls caught a taxi back but all in all a pleasurable walk in/out of town - especially after eating too much at Humble Pie or Moutreys (great pizza!) we were all ready for a pint at Middle Earth on way in each evening too! Mike called us to check all was OK and also recommended places to eat/drink etc. Thanks for a great stay at a great price.
Many thanks for your nice review of our cottage and we're glad that all 6 of you had a great time whilst you were there. That's what it all about, enjoying yourselves and were happy our cottage and our amenities helped you achieve that. Hopefully we'll catch up with you again if you decide to make a future booking? Warm regards Mike

"Excellent location, and very clean property"
Stayed with friends for a week. Very clean with great view of the viaduct next to the property. Good size bathrooms, and good kitchen facilities. The hot water system took a while to master, but we got there in the end. Very relaxing especially in the lounge area. A great base to explore Whitby and the wonderful surrounding area.
Many thanks for a nice review. We're glad another set of guests enjoyed their stay at Riverside Cottage. Not all guests leave reviews and it really helps us and hopefully future guests when we get good positive comments. Regards

"compact, quiet location."
A peaceful riverside spot within a 30 minute walk into Whitby over the viaduct. Whilst we found nothing wrong with the accommodation it was very functional. We didn't appreciate before we arrived that living over three floors can be bit of a drag. The lower kitchen/diner looked a bit 'tired' and we missed not having a radio (it was being repaired) and somewhere comfortable to sit. The first floor fliving room was OK but we felt it had too much furniture and could have been laid out better to provide a bigger feel living space - the coffee table seemed to occupy a quarter of the floor space. Beds were comfy, no problems there. The main areas of frustration were the noisy floorboards, lack of control over the heating and the combi boiler. We stayed in March, the weather was fairly cold and the heating went of at 1 pm for a few hours. It was too cold to stay in the house so we resorted to walking into Whitby for a cup of tea in one of the tea shops before timing our return walk to make sure that the heating was back on. Getting water for a shower, wash basins etc on any floor other than the ground was a dark art that required several days of practice (despite the comprehensive instructions provided) and co-operation from my partner to co-ordinaste when we wanted to use the hot water. We paid extra to have bath towels provided - bring your own! We have dusters at home that are better quality than the towels provided! On arrival there was a very unpleasant smell of damp in the first floor bathroom. When using the shower water goes everywhere and there was no bath mat provided for the bathroom floor which was a bit dodgy when stepping out of the bath/shower and resulted several ungraceful piroettes. Overall, as mentioned earlier there was nothing wrong with the accommodation, it just didn't feel particularly welcoming - all very clean and functional.
Thank you for your review. A few answers to some points mentioned. The cottage photos show clearly, in all of our advertising sites, that the cottage is indeed on 3 floors. It is very clear what size of cottage is being booked before any guest commits to stay! If anyone doesn't like 3 floors we wouldn't really expect them to book the cottage! It actually suits most people to have bedrooms on different floors for privacy reasons. If it seemed to be a 'bit of a trek' to get around the cottage it surely must have been expected beforehand? We don't hide the fact the cottage has 3 floors - we actively promote the fact - especially when two families are wanting to stay with us at the same time. The decoration also, is definately not 'tired'. The accommodation, inside and out was completely painted and decorated only recently in February 2013 and we feel this comment is quite unrealistic. As far as comfort goes, in the dining room we have a table with 6 chairs to enjoy family meals (again, this also can be clearly seen on our photos). In the large lounge we have 3 sofas and also 2 armchairs which would enable 9 people actually to sit there even though we only sleep up to 6. There is adequate room to spread out and sit apart easily. There is also a table and 4 chairs outside on the private balcony and the same again downstairs outside the ground floor French doors. We believe that we promote out cottage really well and honestly. In our advertising photographs we show potential guests EVERYTHING. Anyone who books at Riverside Cottage should easily be able to see EVERYTHING in the cottage as we don't try to show people our 'best bits'. We show them the cottage in it's entirety. Regards Mike & Louise (The owners)
