Location description from owner

The Pays de la Loire region

Nantes (Naoned in Breton) is the capital of the Pays de La Loire region, as well as the Loire Atlantique department. It is also the most important city of the historic province of Brittany, and culturally still remains strongly identified with it.

A recent article published in the Guardian gives a good picture of what the city of Nantes as a tourist destination is like today - here is an excerpt of this article by G.Dunmall:

"After a carousel ride aboard a giant octopus with moving tentacles, we emerge to find an oversized mechanical elephant wandering down the street, steam blowing from its trunk. In the moat of a 14th-century castle lies an electricity pylon, crackling sinisterly.

This is not a surreal version of Disneyland, but the north-western French city of Nantes. The elephant and marine-themed carousel are just two of the highly original attractions created by La Machine, a street theatre company that has given this city’s old docks and shipbuilding warehouses a new lease of life.

Nantes hasn’t always been associated with such fun and frolics. The 20th century left many scars – geographical, physical and emotional. Firstly, the city’s canals and waterways were filled in between the wars, robbing it of its title as a Venice of the west. Less than two decades later, in 1943, it suffered badly at the hands of allied bombs. In the 1980s, its historic shipbuilding yards closed for good.

Added to this trauma is the peculiar fact that, though historically and geographically a part of Brittany, Nantes was temporarily separated from the region during the second world war – and never made its way back. It is an anomaly many local Nantais still resent, believing it to have rid them of their historic Breton identity..." (read more in the Guardian :-)

Central Nantes

I just love this city! Believe me, Nantes truly deserves its reputation as a vibrant city full of charms.

In 2004, the magazine Time described Nantes as “the most liveable city in all of Europe”.

It is a city of art and history that has many secrets to reveal to its visitors. In our apartment you will find very detailed tourist information, including very interesting collection books about Nantes and its surroundings. Your only concern will be what to start with!

“Excellence and well-being”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2015

We spent 3 months at "Le Pont Levis". We really love our stay. The apartment is clean, wide and luminous. It is well decorated with original nice paintings and photographies. It is close to the "Château des Ducs de Bretagne". This location is perfect because it is really quiet, even if it is in the center of "everything". The owners, Henriette and Vasile are helpful and have done everything to facilitate our stay. We were happy being there.

It was a real pleasure for us to get to know you and welcome you for these past 3 months spent in Nantes, and we can't wait to see you back ! Thank you for choosing Le Pont Levis!

“Classy, calm but central loft in Nantes”

Reviewed 7 Feb 2014

We stayed for 2 weeks in Le Loft and enjoyed both the ideal central location and the peaceful atmosphere. Everything was supplied and Henriette could not have been more helpful, even picking us up at the airport on arrival. We could walk everywhere in Nantes from the loft and visited the food market every day! Many restaurants and cafes were on the doorstep and we really enjoyed seeing the city off season, though missed the elephant on the Ile de Machines which was closed. But we will return in the summer! I would recommend Le Loft for location, quiet and comfort especially,

Owner's reply: thank you both for taking time to write a review, the pleasure was mine to welcome you at the loft !

“The right place for a short stay in Nantes”

Reviewed 4 Jan 2014

Near the town center, a nice little flat with all conveniences. Personal welcome of the landlady, the sky through the windows, painting and pictures on the wall, you feel like at home and even better. One little weakness: the lack of shower, and a low roofed bath

Owner's reply: Merci beaucoup et au plaisir de vous recevoir à nouveau lors d'une prochaine visite à Nantes. And Happy New Year !

“perfect !”

Reviewed 4 Jan 2014

“Ideal”

Excellent location, near three supermarkets, very well equipped kitchen and bathroom, plenty of light...

Owner's reply: grazie mille [--] ed a presto a Nantes! et en attendant le plaisir de vous recevoir à nouveau : tous nos meilleurs voeux pour 2014 !

“Gorgeous apartment, great location”

Reviewed 22 Dec 2012

Le Loft de l'Opera was a beautiful apartment within walking distance to all the best parts of centre-ville in Nantes. Henriette was very easy to get in touch with, and the apartment was furnished with everything you could possibly need during your stay. I wouldn't stay anywhere else on my next trip to Nantes.

Owner's reply: Thank you Laura, I'll be looking forward to welcoming you at the Loft de l'Opéra again any time!
