Description

The flat is on the ground floor of a Victorian converted house, with two bright doubles with plenty of storage space for clothes. They sleep four comfortably with a large front bedroom and smaller back bedroom. I can provide hairdryers, an iron, adaptor and anything else you may need.

The front bedroom is large with a bay window and fireplace, it gets the sun throughout the day so is lovely and sunny. It has a double bed and is decorated in a homely country style with a comfortable armchair in the winow. The second double has a large window overlooking the patio garden and plenty of in-built storage space to store cases, clothes etc. It stays nice and cool in the summer, and warm with a good radiator in the winter.

The flat has a large living/dining area, with a comfy sofa and a couple of armchairs, dining table, and Virgin TV. There is free and quick wifi. There is a small and cosy kitchen with oven, toaster, plenty of crockery you can use and washing machine for clothes.

There is a small and cosy kitchen with oven, toaster, plenty of crockery you can use and washing machine for clothes. The kitchen opens straight into the bathroom which is a little unconventional but makes getting ready, making toast etc in the morning nice and easy.

There are two fridges, you have one for your exclusive use in the kitchen. I can leave a few things you might need for breakfast including bread, milk, tea and coffee and a few extras.

The kitchen leads into the bathroom which has recently been redone with bath, rainfall shower etc. It's lovely and relaxing taking a bath as it backs into the garden with no road noise.

Neighbours are pretty quiet and friendly, and there is a small and peaceful patio garden which I have recently had fun decorating and planting in (it even has a beach corner!), and gets the sun throughout the day.

I do have two sweet cats that are part of the furniture and usually stay behind when I have guests. I leave plenty of food and can arrange to come in every other day to feed them if you prefer. I make sure they don't go into the bedrooms and just keep the doors shut; they usually mooch outside or in the living room. If you have allergies it may not be the best flat for you.

You will have the flat to yourselves but I am happy to offer as much or as little guidance you like before and during your stay - I love living in London and can share my favourite places and tips with you. I also have the Lonely Planet London guide if you want to borrow it for your stay!

I speak a little French and Spanish and am keen to practice. I am happy to give advice on where to go in London, recommend restaurants, cafes or museums. Equally, if you just need a place to stay and a key that is also fine. I will likely be away during your stay but am just on the other end of the phone or email.

The Area:

I love that there are so many little delis and cafes in the area, particularly along Brixton Road. There is a farmers' market by the church five minutes away on a Saturday. There's a fantastic Italian bakery a minute away on the end of the street with fresh bread and good coffee. There's a couple of great neighbourhood pubs with plenty of character and great food and atmosphere. Brixton is ten minutes down the road on the bus, with the amazing market with all kinds of food, new bars opening all the time.

Kennington Park is five minutes away, and a ten minute bus down another road takes you to the lovely Clapham Common. The South Bank is around a 20 minute bus ride away or under 10 minutes on the tube, as are the Imperial War Museum, Houses of Parliament, London Eye, the Tate Modern, Tate Britain, and National Theatre. The area I live in, Oval, is named after the Oval cricket ground which is a ten minute walk if you fancy catching some cricket while you're here.

Transport:

Buses and tube links are excellent. You can get to Central London in 20 minutes. The nearest tube is Oval station within Zone 2. Stockwell is a ten minute walk, also in Zone 2 and on both the Victoria and Northern lines.

Vauxhall is a 10-15 minute walk which has an overground station where many trains out of Waterloo stop, taking you to Richmond, Wimbledon, and parts of Surrey really quickly. Victoria station is 15-20 minutes away on the tube or bus.

Plenty of 24 hour buses within a 2 minute walk on both Brixton and Clapham Roads to Oxford Circus, Trafalgar Square, etc.

There is a Boris Bikes dock round the corner from the flat if you'd like to hire a bike. You can walk to the river in fifteen minutes, and from there along to the South Bank.

“A perfect stay in London”

Reviewed 15 Feb 2016

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Laura's place. Laura made us feel at home straight away and little touches such as jam, milk and juice in the guest fridge were really appreciated. Laura's garden flat is a delight and has a real 'homely' atmosphere with lovely decorative pieces that add to the warmth and character. It was a real pleasure to come home to after a day of sightseeing. It is located close to the Tube at Oval station which made it a breeze to get around London. Laura also gave us some great tips of where to eat, markets to visit and the best way to get around. If you want to stay at a place that offers genuine hospitality and value you could go no further than Laura's. We will be back.

“Felt at home with excellent access to London.”

Reviewed 12 Feb 2016

We arrived earlier than expected, which wasn't a problem for Laura. The flat is beautifully decorated and feels very cosy and welcoming. Laura puts in lots of little touches to make it social. As for the location, it was perfect. Just a short walk to the tube station and straight into London. Nice little garden to escape to as well.
