Awash in natural light and borderless spaces there is a mix of chic and curious pieces and timeless style.Located in the absolute epicenter of the East End neighborhood of Shoreditch in a former 19th century Victorian bank depository, this rambling 3000 square foot penthouse seamlessly pairs the best of turn of the century romanticism with edgy modern personality.

Perched four floors above the city streets with views overlooking the tree lined Calvert Ave and the spire of St Leonards Church, the interiors have been restored with a light touch that bridges the gap between retro and modern living. The remnants of the industrial space are cleverly repurposed into the open plan layout arranged over one floor that spans the length of the rooftop. The main living space is vast and flooded with light from the banks of windows that illuminate the whitewashed interiors that are divided into cozy individual living spaces. The bright eat-in kitchen is perched on a pedestal at the sunny far end of the room and the two en-suite double bedrooms occupy the perimeters.

A beguiling collection of distinctive furnishings, art and decor from the odds and ends of 20th century design are mingled with fun and colorful modern retrofits and personal pieces that tie it all together. Artists represented include Tom Beard,Alex Hartly,Alison Shulnitz,Paula Rego,Carlos Sena, G.Sorracas,Yolanda Sonnabend,Noe Klablin and Andy Warhol.Furnishings feature pieces by Fornasetti,Pecival Lafer,Willy Rizzo,Hans Wegner and Paco Rabanne.

There is also a external fire escape staircase where you can enjoy an informal coffee outside in the sunshine amongst planted foliage with city views.

Very unusual to get a property of these epic proportions in central London.

Please note that there is no elevator and being on the 4th floor means this apt is not suitable for the elderly or infirm.

Water is processed from hard to soft quality.

If required we can supply an extra blow up double bed.

Additional features include WiFi, 2 TVs with Apple TV, Netflix, Sky Cable and DVD player. Security and intercom system. Housekeeping (every Thursday) and laundry facilities.

Location description from owner

The England region

Shoreditch is now the unquestionable epicenter of 'hip' London. The area abounds in restaurants, art galleries, music venues, shops etc You are within minutes of Hoxton Square,Brick Lane, Columbia Road Flower Market, the Financial Square mile etc
Local Train Stations include Shoreditch High St,Old Street and Liverpool St. Buses are frequent from Shoreditch High St and Old St.The West End can be reached easily in 15 minutes.

Central London/Zone 2

The industrial east end area of Shoreditch whose gritty roots have undergone the inevitable hipster gentrification over the years, is bordered by the colors and flavors of Brick Lanes curry mile to the east and the city center to the west. A fascinating mix of Cockney and international culture rub up against the newly trendy and historic aspects, from the Old Spitalfields marketplace to the fashionista and art scene. Once the haunt of the Elizabethan artsy set.Shakespeare spent his early career living and working here and many of his contemporaries are buried in St Leonards Church, which the apt overlooks. By the 19th century the area had degenerated into a crime-ridden slum featuring Jack the Ripper,to be followed a few decades later by the Blitz.

Then, in the 1990s, creative types-think contemporary artists (Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, et al) and forward-thinking design and media geeks once again moved in, drawn by the urban-grunge vibes, the multiculturalism, and it's sense of history. They transformed Shoreditch's aging industrial buildings into funky lofts, open-plan offices, and buzzing nightclubs. These days, now that it's the city's ground zero of artsy urban cool, it is far from a low-rent district. It is now a fast evolving go to destination which is very much a foodie destination from dining pool side on the roof of Shoreditch House to 24 hour Beigels to Street Food Festivals to Vietnamese to the Rivington Grill. Eclectic shopping(no chain stores are permitted) and art galleries abound with a now legendary night life. The axis of London has moved eastwards, and Shoreditch is very much it's beating heart.

London of course is more than the sum of its parts and represents the vast multicultural diversity that makes it a truly global city. The historic splendour and iconic landmarks are legion here, from Westminster Abbey and Big Ben to The Tower and Buckingham Palace, the city is a blend of world heritage and modern capital all contained within its original medieval boundaries along the Thames. The West End neighborhoods of Kensington, Knightsbridge, Mayfair, Soho, Notting Hill, Chelsea, Portobello Road and Camden encompass the more traditional districts of the city which also boasts more lush parkland than any other world capital and an abundance of variety to discover.
