Very Good

“Close to perfection!”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2013

We stayed a week in this studio and absolutely loved it. Booking was easy and replies from Eliza was prompt. She was very helpful answering all my questions. Upon agreeing on the conditions & pricing, we paid the amount in full. Checking in was easy. Rang the door bell and Ahdi (I might get the spelling wrong) took us in, showed us to our allocated unit which was on the basement floor. The common areas were all very clean and brightly lit. The building itself must have been refurbished, everything looks new, and spotlessly clean. Ahdi showed us how to operate things in the studio, provided us the WiFi password and guides to the safety box. He was even kind enough to get us a second keycard for our room. Our studio (did not look the same as the published ad pic, but still looked good), despite being on the basement floor, has a window that opens out to the backyard. Nothing much to see, but it was good to be able to get some natural light and air in. There is a sofa bed in the living room that shares the well-equipped open kitchen. Making meals were possible - microwave, hobs, e kettle, refrigerator and cutlery were available. There were shampoo and shower gel in the bathroom, I thought that was a nice gesture considering this is a self-catering studio. The separate bedroom isn't too big but cozy enough for 2 to rest comfortably. There's also a wardrobe and a chest of drawer, so plenty of room to store clothings etc. The apartment is located right behind the Russell Square tube station. That was one of the reason we chose this apartment, getting in from Heathrow airport T5 was a breeze on the Piccadilly line, cheap and hassle-free. The only trade off would be the faint sound of the trains at night (we're in the basement after all). I recall hearing some trains at midnight, but it is really not too bothersome that you can't ignore it. It didn't bother us from getting a good night's rest. Around the apartment, there's Tesco Express, Pret-a-manger, pubs, and at Brunswick Center (just 3 mins walk) you'll have Waitrose, Boots, and a handful of other restaurants & cafes. A day before we checked out, I rang Monica (the onsite personnel) to confirm our late checkout which Eliza already agreed to 2pm (during booking). She was very rude, telling me that I must leave by 11am as she has already done me a favor by "upgrading" my booking to a 1-bedroom and that I paid a discounted price meant for a smaller unit. I told her I have email to proof what Eliza and I agreed on (i.e. type of unit, price, check-in-out time), but she basically rant on and on telling me I should just leave by 11 but I could leave my bags in the office. I could have emailed Eliza immediately asking her what's with all these attitude I was getting from Monica, but I decided to let it slip. After all it was our last night in town and I didn't want to be bothered discussing this further with such a bully. Overall, we were extremely satisfied with the quality of the interior furnishing & fittings of the studio, as well as the responds from Eliza. I would have given it full 5 stars rating if only Monica wasn't such a character.
