We have solar water heating to take advantage of the sun with backup from gas for provision of both hot water & heating. When there is a party of 8 there is no rushing for showers as there are 2 shower rooms and a shower over the bath in the bathroom with a seperate toilet upstairs. The house is very versitile & everyone can join together or do there own thing. You can choose how much you do or how little. We find it is a great place for families to meet together, when they live in different parts of the country. Pets are not left out, as they are members of the family too.The owners live next door and are on hand to help with any problems or give advice. We have a welcome folder with information to answer the most commonly asked questions. There are handbooks for the National Trust & English Heritage as well as literature featuring other attractions, to give you ideas on where to go if you haven't decided already. The owners grow different fruits & vegetables & visitors to the house can share the produce of the season.

Further details outdoors

Although Mount Pleasant House is situated on a main road, little traffic noise can be heard in the garden and people are amazed that they can sit peacefully & either relax or use the games room which has proved to be very popular. The astroturf lawn is easy to keep clean for visitors who bring pets with them. We are lucky to have many green spaces in the surrounding area. There are St Helens Woods about 10 mins walk to the back of the house. On the way, you can stop at "The BOS" playing field, which is an enclosed space where dogs can run free & includes a fenced off play area for children with swings & climbing frames. The East & West Hills overlook Hastings Old Town, which has proved popular with visitors & now features "The Gerwood Art Gallery".The West Hill is nearer the house & has the newly renovated Smugglers Caves. The ruins of Hastings Castle is also close by, which you can see from the front bedroom.

Many of the pubs have live music to suit different tastes. Hastings is steeped in history with many famous writers & artists getting inspiration from the area. Catherine Cookson made her home here for many years. Rudyard Kipling lived at Bateman's in Burwash just about 15 miles north. In August we have the Old Town Week and there is a whole fun filled week ending with Fireworks in the Castle Ruins. The Old Town Carnival travels up the old High street & back down All Saints street, in which many of the houses date back to 17-18 centuries. On the 14th October it is Hastings Day and on the Satuday nearest, there is a procession and big bonfire held on the beach. It culminates in an amazing display of fireworks.

“Home from Home”

Reviewed 4 Nov 2013

One of if not the best Holiday rental properties we have stayed in over the last five years. I chose this house because it had something for everybody in our party and we were not disappointed. The neigbours otherwise known as the owners were very helpful and the gifts from the garden and kitchen were great. They even thought about the dog with water down on arrival and some treats.

We try to find something for everyone in bad weather as well as good. Holidays don't have to be spoilt by the weather.

“Great house, equipped with everything you would need for a relaxing break”

Reviewed 1 Nov 2013

House was just as described. Easy to find with adequate off-Street parking. Property is located only ten minutes walk to nearest major supermarket. Our children loved the summer house with all of the games in. TV, DVD, etc. in the lounge were excellent, lots of films for the whole family to watch in the evenings. Kitchen facilities were outstanding, everything you need. Bedrooms were spacious, light and comfortable with lots of storage space. Three bathrooms was a blessing. The owners were excellent, even took our washing in when the weather took a turn for the worst. Fresh fruit, tomatoes, homemade jam and rhubarb wine was on the kitchen table for us when we arrived, such a lovely gesture. House was also kid and dog friendly.

Thank you for a wonderful review & leaving the house in such good order. Hope to see you again in the future

“Fantastic very well equipped property”

Reviewed 14 Apr 2013

Really lovely property and so well equipped. Children loved the Wii and the games room. The house is very large and full of character and everything feels/looks very modern and good quality. The welcome we received from Sheila was lovely and the scones were delicious! Plenty to do in the area and overall we had a really good week

“Best Place To Stay In Hastings”

Reviewed 5 Apr 2013

We stayed at mount pleasant house with 4 adults, 4 kids and 4 dogs. It was unbelievable. Our Ferry was late on aour arrival day and the owners waited for us and were so gentle, gave us a warm welcome with fresh scones and jam; that´s when our holiday began! everything was so easy staying in this house, where everybody had something to do which was interesting for her/him. The owners love dogs, the garden is simply perfect! We stayed for 2 weeks, towels and linen provided and given new. I can´t count all the good things, this house and their owners are lovely, we will come back soon. all the best to you and your family, sheila!

We enjoyed having you stay. The time went so quickly but we hope the weather is better for your next stay.

“A lovely place to spend New Year”

Reviewed 4 Jan 2013

We had a great time, such a lovely comfy home. well equipped kitchen with more than enough gadgets. The games room was a success with the children, they loved the magnetic darts. Local Chinese and kebab shop we're good too.

“Excellent value for large families and a good base location wise to explore Hastings and surrounding area.”

Reviewed 8 Nov 2012

The house is in a great position to explore Hastings town centre (both old and new) and is close to Alexandra Park. You can walk into the town centre although we often catch the bus back as it is uphill on the way back (there is a bus stop very close to the house)! There are also two off road parking spaces, so you have piece of mind that when you return exhausted from a day trip you don't have to worry about finding a parking space. The facilities within the house are like home from home, with the most well equipped kitchen you will ever see in a holiday home. The outside facilities are great too with a summer house which doubles as a games room and an outside seating area with a table and chairs etc. As there are 4 large bedrooms and 3 bathrooms it is excellent for extended families or groups of friends. There are a number of good take aways within walking distance of the property. The owners are very helpful and as they live next door are on hand should you need them. This was our second visit to the property within the year and we are already planning next years visit!

“Comfortable family home with a warm welcome.”

Reviewed 4 Nov 2012

We received the warmest welcome from Sheila when we arrived at Mount Pleasant House. The house was very well presented, it was clean and warm. We are 2 families with 4 teenagers so the games chalet and the wii were a great addition to the house! We also had 2 dogs and Sheila had even provided bowls, towels and beds for them and the garden was completely dog safe. The location, for us was perfect, as we have family nearby in Hastings, but despite that, beautiful Alexandra Park is just down the road with its' beautiful trees and great play areas. St Helen's Woods were also nearby (5 minutes in the car) great for dog walks! The house is also very well located for heading to the beaches either at Rock-A-Nore by Old Town, Hastings, or a little further Pett Level a family favourite of ours. Mount Pleasant House offered great accommodation for us. The beds were comfortable and the 3 bathrooms were essential for all the teenagers (don't be surprised!) with plenty of hot water. The kitchen was great for cooking, with extra chairs around the house so that we could easily invite family over to eat with us. The sitting room chairs were comfy and reclining so we could really relax watching the 3D tv! We would definitely stay at Mount Pleasant House again and would happily recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in Hastings.

“Charming house”

Reviewed 21 Oct 2012

We had a wonderful stay in this holiday home. It provides really everything for a good vacation. The needs of the younger and the older are considered. The location of the hosue allowed us to explore the town of Hastings on foot. Supermarket and town centre, the lovely Alexandra park, seaside and harbour area, it´s all in walking distance. Public traffic stations are nearby. We were met very kind by our hosts. Freshly baked scones with sweet marmelade really lifted us up after the long journey. The house itself and the rooms are really spacious. As the sleeping rooms are in the backward section, sleep is absolute calm and quiet. We highly recommend this house!

This is the second time we have stayed at Mount Pleasant House and on both occassions we have found the house very clean, well equiped and the owners very helpful and welcoming. The house itself is perfect for larger families as it has 4 good sized bedrooms and is suitable for children. It is in a perfect position to walk into Hastings town centre (although we usually get the bus back - the bus stop is close by) and there are take away shops near by if you don't want to cook! We would recommend this house to family and friends and are hoping to return again next year!
