Description

Only one mile away from Porta Romana square (Piazzale di Porta Romana), a historical gate into the heart of the city of Florence, this gorgeous typical Florentine villa is located on the hill of "Poggio Imperiale", immersed in the beauty of the Tuscan countryside surrounded by olive groves, gardens and fruit trees.

The garden of the villa looks out onto the beautiful Florentine hillside as well as Villa del Poggio Imperiale – from 1737 to 1860 residence of the "Lorena" family, the Austrian Grand dukes of Tuscany - and the Arcetri observatory where Galileo Galilei continued his astronomical research after being called to Florence in 1610 by Cosimo II dei Medici.

The whole property is of much interest to the city of Florence and is listed under “properties of particular cultural interest of the historical Park of the hills of Florence” in the Regulatory city plan of the city. The villa and its garden are also additionally mentioned as

The estate has recently been fully remodeled and restored. This careful restoration has created a very special ambiance: elegant, cozy and appealing.

Our property lies at an ideal location for visiting Florence, but is also convenient to the surrounding Chianti area and Siena (approximately 40 minutes by car), as well as to Pisa, Lucca and Arezzo.

The city center of Florence is easily and quickly accessible either by bus, taxi or rental car. The 'heart' of the city center, such as the world renowned Ponte Vecchio bridge and the Uffizi museum are only about 3 km (1.9 miles) away. The main train station (Santa Maria Novella) and Piazza Duomo only 4 km (2.4 miles) away.

The nearest bus station is within walking distance as it is only about 0.4 mile away from the villa. At the same location of the bus station there is also a few groceries stores, take out places, bakery, ice cream places, breakfast places, restaurant/pizzeria, dry cleaning and a pharmacy.

Taxi service works very well too, as it only takes a few minutes to come and go from the heart of the historical district of the city to the villa.

Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

The birthplace of the Renaissance and the gorgeousness of its countryside are Italy itself for many visitors. The flourishing landscape with its cultivated vineyards, olive groves and cypresses makes Tuscany a particularly beautiful and peaceful destination. Nestled within the landscape are some of the treasures of the Renaissance: Florence, Siena, Pisa, home of some of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.

Central Florence

The City of Florence itself offers a great variety of activities: It is one of the richest city in the world regarding art and culture: The Uffizzi Gallery, Galleria dell' accademia, Palazzo Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo (Cathedral), Palazzo Pitti, Boboli Garden, Campanile di Giotto...showing the works of art of the greatest Renaissance artists such as Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Raffaello, Botticelli, Donatello, Brunelleschi.
High quality exhibitions and concerts are offered throughout the year.
Some of the best italian and international shops for fashion and antiques can be found in the City Center.
There is also various possibilities to admire artisan craftsmanship in their workshops: marble engravings and statues, carved wood, guilding, metal furniture, lighting fixtures, silk woving, leather objects....
Other excursions nearby include olive oil and wine-tasting visits to the surrounding Chianti area, visits to Carrara Marble quaries, or to the best italian terra-cotta furnaces at Impruneta.
It is well-known that the agricultural environment of Tuscany provides fresh and excellent products for the table.
All types of restaurants can be found from the best quality italian food with the best wines, to simpler and typical tuscan menus with pasta, pizza, fish and famous local beef.
Most sports and other physical activities can be easily practiced: swimming, tennis, golf, soccer, horse riding, pedestrian tours, trecking, thermal baths and health spas...

“The perfect home for your Tuscan experience”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2012

Our family very much enjoyed this lovely villa. The home is exactly as described and photographed, and the setting is very picturesque. The rooms are large and beautifully appointed. We enjoyed quality family time--dining together on the covered patio, relaxing poolside after a swim, or watching a little TV in the evenings--but the spaciousness of this home affords privacy and 'alone time', as well. The villa is a short drive into Florence, and there are some good, local restaurants within walking distrance. The owners and caretakers did everything possibly to make us feel at home in their lovely home. We have already recommended this villa to family members, friends and co-workers....and cannot wait to return!
