Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

Tuscany is known for its gorgeous landscapes, its rich artistic legacy and its influence on high culture. Tuscany is regarded as the true birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, and has been home to some many influential people in the history of arts and science, such as Petrarch, Dante, Botticelli, Michelangelo, Niccolo Machiavelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo Galilei, Amerigo Vespucci, Luca Pacioli and Puccini. As a result of this, the region has several museums (such as the Uffizi, the Pitti Palace and the Chianciano Museum of Art). Tuscany has a unique culinary tradition, and is famous for its wines (most famous of which are Chianti, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Morellino di Scansano and Brunello di Montalcino).Six Tuscan localities have been designated World Heritage Sites: the historic centre of Florence (1982), the historical centre of Siena (1995), the square of the Cathedral of Pisa (1987), the historical centre of San Gimignano (1990), the historical centre of Pienza (1996) and the Val d'Orcia (2004). Tuscany has over 120 protected nature reserves. This makes Tuscany and its capital Florence popular tourist destinations, attracting millions of tourists every year. Florence receives an average of 10 million tourists a year, placing the city as one of the most visited in the world (in 2007, the city became the world's 46th most visited city, with over 1.715 million arrivals).

Central Florence

Florence (Italian: Firenze, Latin: Florentia) is the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany and of the province of Florence. It is the most populous city in Tuscany, with approximately 370,000 inhabitants, expanding to over 1.5 million in the metropolitan area.Located on the banks of the River Arno, Florence is famous for its history and especially its importance in the Middle Ages and during the Renaissance, its art and architecture and, more generally, for its cultural heritage. A centre of medieval European trade and finance and one of the wealthiest cities of the time, Florence is considered the birthplace of the Renaissance, and has been called the Athens of the Middle Ages. A turbulent political history includes periods of rule by the powerful Medici family, and numerous religious and republican revolutions. From 1865 to 1870 the city was also the capital of the recently established Kingdom of Italy. The historic centre of Florence attracts millions of tourists each year, and Euromonitor International ranked the city as the world's 72nd most visited in 2009, with 1,685,000 visitors. It was declared a World Heritage Site UNESCO in 1982. Due to Florence's artistic and architectural heritage, it has been ranked by Forbes as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and the city is noted for its history, culture, Renaissance art and architecture and monuments. The city also contains numerous museums and art galleries, such as the Uffizi Gallery and the Pitti Palace, amongst others, and still exerts an influence in the fields of art, culture and politics.Florence is also an important city in Italian fashion, being ranked within the top fifty fashion capitals of the world;[9] furthermore, it is also a major national economic centre, being a tourist and industrial hub. In 2008, the city had the 17th highest average income in Italy.

“ideal base for Florentine staycation”

Reviewed 11 Jun 2013

The apartment was well placed for walking to all the sights yet in a quieter area. No traffic noise in the apartment ! It is on the second floor though so not suitable for the infirm. Florence has to be seen from the Boboli Gardens - fantastic views ! Florence is a very busy place and the peace and tranquillity of the gardens was such a contrast too.

Dear Linda, thank you for the review. We hope to host you another time. Warm regards. Alessandro and Eleonora

“Perfect - a home from home!”

Reviewed 28 Apr 2013

We absolutely loved this apartment! It was very good value for the price, spacious, comfortable, quiet, well equipped, nicely decorated and with an authentic florentine ambience. Even though there were only the two of us, we had particularly wanted an apartment with a separate bedroom and living room - rather than a mezzanine or balcony bedroom. This apartment was perfect. Although we did eat out, we also thoroughly enjoyed shopping in the nearby supermarket (the one recommended to us) and cooking for ourselves. It was wonderfully relaxing, after a tiring day of sight-seeing to return to this lovely flat. The several flights of stairs up to the flat didn't bother us. The booking process was very straightforward by email, and the owner (whose English is very good) was extremely helpful. The lady who let us in (we arrived mid-evening) was so friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. She also gave us lots of very useful recommendations and tips. In addition, the complimentary fresh milk in the fridge, and bowl of fresh fruit - were a lovely touch and much appreciated. The location - just a short walk to the south of the Ponte Vecchio - made it an ideal base - we walked everywhere. And the area itself is quiet and has a quirky charm all its own - I enjoyed glimpses into the many tiny artisan workshops and studios as we strolled around. I am so glad we opted for an apartment rather than a hotel or guesthouse. As first time visitors to Florence, staying in this particular apartment helped to make our week long trip to this beautiful city an experience of a life-time!

Dear Heather, thank you very much for your kind review. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay. We hope to welcome you again. Warm regards. Alessandro e Eleonora

“A welcome oasis in the Florentine rush”

Reviewed 19 Sep 2012

Campucchio1 was a week's oasis in a long nomadic holiday trip. Eleanora's welcome was warm and helpful, especially her tips on places to go to and where to eat in the local area as well as Tuscany in general. The apartment was spacious and had everything we needed for the time we stayed. The Oltrarno area it was in is near the centre of things in Florence and is charming and exciting in its own right. The weather was very warm but the apartment was cool and pleasant. We enjoyed our stay.

Dear John, thank you very much for the review. We hope to welcome you again. Best wishes. Alessandro e Eleonora
