The Sicily region
Sicily is a beautiful island, full of wild flowers (specially in may-june) and landscapes.
A holiday in Sicily is not only for sun and beaches but as well for hiking, biking, horse riding and various water sports.
And of course Sicily is known for its history , it has been conquered by Greek, Carthagenes, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Spaniards,
French and Italians who all put their stamp on the culture. You can meet Sicilians with blond or red hair and blu eyes, but as well
with very dark features. A month time is not enough to visit temples, amphi theaters, cathedrals and castles, but as Cefalù is along the motorway Palermo- Messina it is easy to make daily trips all over the island.
Cefalù is a medieval town, full of small streets and a beautiful Cathedral, built by the Norman King Roger II in 1180.
You can enjoy, the good and tasty food in the various restaurants with terraces, either on the rocks or in de streets,
a good day in the sun on the beach or walk on the rock to see the old temple of Diana.
Cefalù is part of a Nature Park Le Madonie where you can hike and bike and admire the rare fauna and flora.
We even organize quad excursions which go through this park.
Come and enjoy sun, sea and a sandy beach in Cefalu in the villa L'Arca
Each apartment has its own terrace where you can enjoy your meals . Enjoy a swim in the plunge pool at the centre of the complex and become a lounge-lizard soaking up the sun alongside the pool. If you prefer to swim at the beach it's only a five minutes walk. After that you can stroll along the boulevard to the supermarket or walk into the old town where you can shop to your hearts content in the tiny fashionable boutiques. At the heart of the old town is Cathedral Square where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or treat the kids to the most delicious ice-cream in town and just watch the world go by. The old part of town has a lot of tiny baker's fishmonge'rs and butcher's and you can buy fruit a veg from the stalls that sell local produce. If you're looking for presents to take back home there are a couple of very good ceramic shops there too. In the evenings you can eat freshly caught fish at one of the many restaurants in the old town that have terraces overlooking the sea. For the wine-tasters there is a bar dedicated to just that, and there are a couple of pubs serving high-quality Belgian beer on tap.
Cefalu is still unspoilt and you soon get into the laid-back rhythm of everyday life where even the local cats lie out on the roofs and don't move a muscle during siesta. Let the clock stand still for you too, come and relax and watch the beautiful sunsets over the sea, you won't regret it.

"Enjoy the outdoor life with wonderful view of Cefalu and surrounding national park"
Back for a third time this year in 'il nido' (which means the nest). In the past we've spent three months here but this year we only had time for three weeks. June is an ideal month weather-wise and you can have lunch at the boulevard restaurants downtown in the open air then go for a rest and come back later for cocktails or ice-cream. In the evenings the restaurants open early for tourists with children although if you want the true Italian feel you should eat at around 8 o'clock or later when it's coolest. A new addition this year is an Italian brewery that has opened and serves the most wonderful real ale. There were lots of new boutiques as tourism is increasing. They are calling Cefalu the new Taormina. We went to Palermo and Taormina, as always, and visited beaches close to Cefalu where there are very few people at all. Cefalu has a public beach and some beach cafes with loungers for rent. It is very relaxed and laid back in June before the Italians start their holidays. It's nice to walk along the sea-front in the evening and watch everyone passing by or take a look at what the artistic street vendors have on sale. My husband is a cyclist and loves to go cycling in the hills and mountains where you will also find lovely tiny towns and villages. You can get your wine direct from the vineyard either by the litre or bottled - it's a joy to just ride through the vineyard. The local spring water is bottled up the hill and, if you take your own bottles, there is a fountain of real spring water where you can fill them for free. In fact there are lots of interesting places to visit and things to see nearby. Until they have rebuilt the part of Rome airport that recently burnt down it is advisable to take a direct flight to Palermo or Catania.
