Description from owner

Description

Modern, newly decorated and equipped, clean, fresh studio apartment in town center location, Cauterets, just 250m from cable car.

2018 : Newly painted, new coffee machine, TV, digital box, kettle, toaster, and brand new mattress worth 1,000 euros for the double bunk bed! 2019 new Microwave oven, vacuum and large wardrobe. 3 new chairs, one fixed and 2 folding.

2009 : Luxury kitchen installed with 4 ring ceramic hob, oven, extractor, new bathroom with moulded bath and thermostatic shower. Heated towel rail.

Bad bits : Currently no Wifi of its own, but I am sorting this NOW (January 2019) with Orange FR.

Cauterets is a lovely, quaint resort in a great location for winter skiing and snowboarding, with a new beginners' area and a freestyle park for the more advanced. Good range of ski runs, also has Pont d'Espagne nearby for those who prefer ski de fond. It is also just 40 mins' drive from the neighboring ski resort of Bareges/La Mongie by car and in 2024 the resort will be expanded to join with neighbouring Luz Ardidan!

Speaking fluent French and knowing many local people there, I will be happy to help you arrange your ski lessons, ski hire (with discounts) and anything else you need in advance. I'm happy to advise on bars & restaurants and local places of interest.

Cauterets is also fabulous for summer activities including hiking, walking, trekking, mountain, rafting, caving and potholing. Beautiful scenery within minutes, at Pont D'Espagne, and within 30-60 minutes' drive to neighboring areas.

Biarritz, on the Atlantic Coast is within 90 minutes' drive, Toulouse is 2 hours and the Mediterranean 3 hours.

Further details

*** NEW *** Rental price now INCLUDES 35 euro key handling / inventory agency fee so nothing extra to pay on arrival. However a 200 euro (or GBP by arrangement) CASH deposit is required on arrival (French nationals can pay by cheque, which will be returned by mail).

The studio features an up and over double bed accessible via ladder, with 'clic clac' style folding SOFA BED underneath. Since most guests are here for mountain hiking/biking or skiing a certain level of fitness is assumed. It may not be overly suitable for those seeking 'spa cures' or those with disabilities, please ask for clarification PRIOR to booking as it is unfair to ask for a refund in retrospect if you do not clear this up first.

Guests are given the option to clean the property themselves at the end, 'leave it as you find it' - subject to inspection. If the studio requires cleaning in the opinion of the Agent, this will be deducted from your deposit (circa 65 euros). Please leave the studio in an acceptable condition if you choose the option to do it yourself.

Please note there is currently no WiFi of its own in the studio. A weak signal can be picked up from the neighboring hotel "Ski Bar" / Le Bois Joli, but it is best to use your own data or go to the Aragon café in the square, where he takes pride in his fast WiFi connection! I am arranging WiFi January 2019.

PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH MY RESPONSES - I WORK AS A PROFESSIONAL MARINER AND AM OFTEN AT SEA FOR PERIODS OF TIME WITHOUT THE INTERNET!

Prices listed now INCLUDE the local agency fee of 35 euros per booking, which will be factored in regardless of the length of your stay. Thus, a weekend will be more expensive pro rata per day than a week.

Interaction with guest

I insist on a telephone call before you stay, so that you get ALL the information personally from me, to make sure both parties are happy. The only negative reviews have come where guests have demonstrated poor communication. For this studio to be described as 'average' on TripAdvisor due to a couple of reviews is a bit of a joke, I have stayed in places rated 8.5-9.0 that weren’t as good as my own place.

“Perfect base for a skiing holiday.”

Reviewed 28 Feb 2012

The apartment is ideally situated for skiing right in the heart of Cauterets. It has all you could wish for and more , we had everything to up knock up a couple of meals and chill out with a DVD after a full days skiing. Richard was very helpful and gave us a few tips, his advice was especially helpful using the car as a ski store next to the gondola a few minutes walk from the apartment. We walked straight on the gondola every morning and never had to queue once anywhere despite it being mid February. The skiing area was brilliant. We also skied at the small resort of Pont d' Espagna which was just a few miles up the road, snow chains required or there's a bus., it has one three man chair lift and two runs to ourselves (E48 for family day pass).( Cauterets itself is very quaint with plenty of eateries and shops. There is a couple of good supermarkets just around the corner from the apartment which we used daily. For information we drove from Toulouse airport which was just over 2 hours. Also look out for the family 2 and 6 day ski discounts.

Owner's reply: Fantastic to hear - sounds like you made the most of it! The summer season is also magnificent there, hope to see you back again soon. All the best, Rich

“Lived up to expectaions! Very good value for money!”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2011

We have just come back after spending a week in Richard`s studio appartment in Cauterets and we both feel refreshed despite the long car journey back home. The location is very good indeed and it`s within easy reach of Lourdes airport. This is perfect for self catering with all the essentials in the kitchen area. Best to stock up in a larger supermarket but there are smaller ones in Cauterets too. There are some stunning walks with beautiful scenery (waterfalls, lakes , lots of wooded areas) and all within easy reach of the town. You can leave your car in the car park. People in the restaurant who gave us the keys were very helpful and friendly too. Richard has some great DVDs too which we watched on my laptop. All in all, very good value for money.

Owner's reply: Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed the place!
