Location description from owner

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

Herault, a department set in the largest wine producing area in France of Languedoc Roussillon with villages full of Cathar and Templar history. Great walking, rock climbing, cycling, birdwatching, canoeing, wine tasting.. .. almost too much choice!

For town fans: visit Montpellier, Pezenas, Carcassonne, Narbonne and Beziers with markets, art and craft shops, museums and galleries.

During the summer, live music programmes ranging from classic, modern and Occitan influence can be enjoyed under the stars including the Beziers Feria in mid August.

Skiing areas within 2 hours.

Temperatures: These are ONLY A guide on the last few years. It is Europe, not the Carribean. Nothing is guaranteed!

July and August temperatures go up to 35 degrees, but in the countryside there is always a light breeze and a swim in the river after a day's touring or activity is always a delight. Wine harvest starts anytime from the mid August to end of September and there will be tractors on the roads from first light taking trailers of grapes to the cave co operative. The tractors start whirring early.

Note: French children school holidays July and August.

September days are much cooler, bright blue skies and warm. Evenings getting chilly.

October to December, bright days with odd rain, evenings cool.

January to March, Most erratic weather time, bright days but around 10 degrees (always seems warmer with blue skies). Often rain and mid Feb usually the coldest, although our area has a warmer clime and Roquebrun has a MIMOSA fete mid February, and the yellow blooms fill the streets with the carnival parade.

April to May
Temperatures warming up and comfortable.

June: Sunny and warm. Around 25 degrees.

Causses et Veyran

Causses et Veyran: a small, medieval village with 12c church, is surrounded by vineyards for stunning walks: swim/canoe in the River Orb and explore the historical sites of Hérault. It is a rural escape, a step back in time; a slower pace of life with shops closed on Sundays and the two hour lunch 12-2pm taken very seriously. .

Selection of sandy beaches within 30-40 minutes. Canoeing/bicycle hire 15 minutes. Lots of great cycle routes.

Huge diversity of rock climbing sites within 15 minutes to one hour drive.

Walking trails for all levels from tarmac to vineyard trails.

“Fantastic house in stunning setting”

Reviewed 14 Aug 2014

Wonderful little house set in a lovely little old French village. Stunning surrounding countryside and charming owner. We loved our stay here and were made to feel so welcome by Julie.

Merci beaucoup! Un grand plaisir. So very pleased you loved the area as much as I did. A la prochaine!
