“Warm welcome to beautiful apartment in historic house with great views of volcano and sea”

Reviewed 17 Apr 2016

We recently spent a week here and cannot recommend it highly enough. The apartment is clean, comfortable and spacious, with nice high ceilings and is set within a beautiful historic building. You have access to a roof terrace with fantastic views of Etna and the Gulf of Catania. Pedara is very conveniently located for exploring the whole of the east coast (Taormina, Catania, Syracuse etc) as well as Etna and the interior. There are good food shops and restaurants within a few minutes walk. The owners, Ninni & Cristina, live in the house and are incredibly warm, friendly, helpful people who really take the trouble to ensure you have a good stay. They lent us warm clothing for our trip up Etna and even cooked us a typical Sicilian meal. We have stayed in lots of self catering apartments over the years and have never had such lovely hosts.

“Fabulous”

Reviewed 15 May 2015

My partner and I stayed in this wonderful apartment for a week. What a beautiful building it is with fabulous views of Mount Etna. Our hosts Ninni and Christina could not have done any more for us. They even provided us with food on our first evening as they thought we would be hungry after travelling. We have stayed in many accommodations but have never been received in such a warm manner. The apartment itself is quite difficult to find and a gps is a must to get about from here. The bed was very comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. It is a perfect spot to travel about from and it was a pleasure to return to in the evenings. I would not hesitate to recommend this apartment and its wonderful hosts to everyone. We loved Sicily and will return.

“A warm homely welcome into a lovingly restored, interesting and spotless Sicilian house”

Reviewed 20 Oct 2014

Our good experience began when we had to phone Giuseppe on arrival because we were lost after dark in the mystifying one-way system in Pedara. He kindly came to rescue us and guided us to the house, where we were very warmly welcomed by Cristina and Ninni. During our stay they took care we were OK, without ever being intrusive, made us delicious desert and showed us round their beautiful old family home. The apartment was immaculate and spacious, with a comfortable bedroom. The splendid roof terrace with a view of Mount Etna was its crowning glory, although the weather wasn't great for sunbathing. The small kitchen balcony above the neighbouring gardens provided somewhere to sit in the sun without going upstairs. The kitchen was adequately and carefully equipped, though there is no kettle (we took our own!) and the bathroom is very nice. Pedara itself is a 'real' town, not touristy, and we found it very friendly, with plenty of shops selling good quality food, fruit and veg etc. There are several places to eat out, especially if you like pizza, and La Tana del Lupo is an excellent restaurant serving Sicilian food. There is nothing much to door see in Pedara, but it is near several interesting places: you really do need a car. Our day trip up Mount Etna was a fabulous experience.

“Great spot for the real Sicily experience”

Reviewed 18 Oct 2014

As Giuseppe points out, a car is essential, as the apartment is located in the heart of a vibrant village community largely untouched by tourism and not served by public transport. The apartment and hosts are excellent and plenty of restaurants, bars, pizzerias and supermarkets lie within walking distance, even for us, in our late sixties. Pedara is a good base for visiting Taormina, Catania, Syracuse and of course Mount Etna, which towers over the town and is very visible from the spacious rooftop, accessible to guests. The apartment's own history is unique and of special interest to any traveller with a penchant for recent military history (WW2). A memorable stay for us.

“Home from Home.”

Reviewed 10 Aug 2014

We really loved our holiday staying in Pedara at Tocco e il Palmento Faraglioni. The owners are very kind people and were waiting for us when we arrived and gave us a very warm welcome. They also helped us to plan our daily excursions. The property is very clean and and recently painted inside and although basic is very stylish and roomy with high ceilings. We were there in July and found the air conditioning a great comfort. The roof terrace offers stunning views and is particularly enjoyable in the mornings and evenings. Pedara is a very pleasant quiet town in the foothills of mount Etna having interesting typical local architecture. It has some great places to eat which are not expensive. There is a lively outdoor music culture in the main square with places to sit and enjoy the atmosphere.

“Perfect”

Reviewed 26 Jun 2014

We booked this apartment as we needed somewhere close to Mt Etna for myself and my daughter, who is a geography student. Our hosts, Ninni and Christina, were waiting for us when we arrived at around 9.30pm and they had taken the trouble to provide us with some food, in case we were unable to buy any on the way from the airport. Despite my protestations, they also insisted upon returning our deposit at the start of our stay, rather than at the end, which I felt was very trusting of them. The apartment was clean, well decorated and very comfortable. The house also has a large roof terrace, with a wonderful view of Etna, for the use of all guests. This proved very useful on our final night as Etna treated us to one of her periodic eruptions; a truly awesome sight. Pedara is a lovely little town with plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance. There is also ample, free parking on the street outside.

“Home away from home”

The apartment is very comfortable, clean and beautifully located. The apartment is located in a cozy place, all shopping facilities are within walking distance. From the roof terrace you have a magnificent view of Mount Etna and the sea. The owners live in the house and made us feel very welcome. They care about their guests warmly.

“Une maison magnifique où l'on se sent comme chez soi avec un accueil familial et chaleureux”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2013

A mi chemin entre la mer et l'Etna, lieu de résidence idéal pour tous ceux qui aiment être loin de la foule et du stress ! Les propriétaires, qui ont restauré cette magnifique maison avec amour et goût, vous accueille comme si vous étiez de la famille ! Tout était parfait.

“A wonderful stay in a beautiful home.”

Reviewed 17 Jul 2013

We booked this apartment as we were looking for a quiet retreat off the beaten track, and we were not disappointed. The owners were in contact immediately after we made the booking, providing us with very good directions, a contact phone number and so on. When we arrived, the hosts offered us a larger apartment in the same house (a wonderful historic building, with an authentic wine press, and its own garden) at no extra cost - a good start! The entire building has been sympathetically refurbished over the past few years, and certainly everything felt new and clean, with some nice touches like a fresh fruit on arrival, the run of the garden, a useful local guide, etc. Our hosts - whilst not speaking English - were the definition of hospitality, going as far as making us a couple of delicious local delicacies for dinner. The deposit was returned immediately, despite me having broken a deck-chair (apologies again!). I would heartily recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a quiet break. A car is probably a must, and i should point out that Pedara is not on the coast - but Taormina (one of Sicily's poshest tourist towns and beaches) is 40 minutes away, around the base of Mt. Etna, which provides a stunning backdrop from the roof terrace.
