Description

Dale Cottage is a self catering cottage nestling in the picturesque Peak District village of Castleton. This former miners cottage boasts views of the market place and surrounding countryside. The perfect location for walking, climbing, caving, mountain biking or simply relaxing. Many local amenities, Peveril Castle, and the Caverns are a short distance away. Chatsworth House, Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock can be easily reached by car.

The three bedroomed cottage comfortably accommodates up to six people, with a flagstone dining room and homely living room. There is a well stocked kitchen with complimentary teas, coffees and cereals. Family friendly with a high chair, cot, z-bed and stair gates. Toys, board games, garden games, books, maps, DVDs, CDs, Internet-TV, wireless speaker, washer, dryer, dishwasher and Wifi are all provided. Pets are welcome downstairs and gates are installed.

Outside, the tiered garden’s dining table has a stunning view of the ridge walk between Castleton and Edale. There is a lockable bike shed and parking for one vehicle on the road directly outside. Additional parking can be found on nearby roads or at the pay and display carpark next to the visitors centre.

The Peak Room contains a King Sized four poster bed with a wool topped mattress, the Wren Room is a Double bedroom with an ensuite shower. The Cliffe Room overlooks the edge of Cave Dale. Normally a spacious twin room, the two beds can be combined as a Super King bed upon request in advance of your stay.

All bedrooms and WCs are located upstairs and the cottage has it's original staircase. Due to this the cottage is unfortunately difficult for guests with any mobility issues. A battery operated smoke alarm for the deaf and hard of hearing is available upon request and a magnifying glass is supplied for reading.

There is one on road parking space directly outside, we please ask guests to park facing the blue front door. Parking for additional vehicles can be found on nearby roads.

A welcome pack of bread, milk, eggs and butter greets your arrival. Please contact us regarding any special dietary requirements.

“Disappointing”

Reviewed 23 Jun 2018

To be honest Dale Cottage was a bit of a let down. Lovely village with good services, nice welcome, but the cottage simply isn’t as described. The pictures made it look bright and spacious but it is actually quite dark and cramped. Much of the furniture is tired and unsuitable. There was a real shortage of clothes space, and the cupboards throughout the house were crammed with unnecessary stuff, either the owner’s or previous guests’. The “tiered garden” is very unkempt and required crampons to scale the twenty-five steps to reach the outdoor table. While there was plenty of equipment, there were some surprising omissions. No hoover; no serving dishes; no microwave containers and no trays to carry food to that lofty outdoor table. There should be a warning on the door to the en-suite as on two occasions people were locked in due to a faulty catch. Overall, we had a good holiday in Castleton; largely due to the company, the landscape and the very fortunate weather we had.

“Beautiful cottage”

Reviewed 25 May 2018

We had a wonderful stay in Dale Cottage. All prior communication was easy and Lisa met us on our arrival and showed us around. The photos don't do the cottage justice, it is well equipped and the welcome pack a lovely touch. Castleton is a very pretty village and Dale cottage is perfectly placed to walk and explore the Peak District from. I would love to return in the future.

Owner's reply: Many thanks for your very kind review, hope you enjoy returning to Castleton in the future. Very best wishes.

“Wonderful, perfect!”

Reviewed 8 Feb 2017

We booked for one week in January. The house was perfect, basically like a hotel but then self catered. The cupboards were full of breakfasts and essentials. Beds were beautifully made and clean, great mattresses. Water pressure great. Great walks from the door and several lovely pubs minutes from the door! Perfect, perfect in every single way. Thank you! Even the freeview was brilliant and great wifi connection.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your review. It was lovely to meet you all. Best wishes
