The Haugh of Urr is ideally situated for a wide variety of activities both near and far.

Within the village, there is a pub - the Laurie Arms with meals, real ale, WIFI and is child friendly. It also provides a newspaper service, milk, bread and is the local post office.

There is a spacious children's play park and woodland walks all within easy walking distance of the cottage.

A mile away towards Dalbeattie sits the impressive 12th century Motte of Urr, a fortified "Motte and Bailey" area, built on rising ground with earthworks creating a deep and wide ditch around it.

Dalbeattie and Castle Douglas are both within 5 miles and provide local shops and speciality stores and restaurants. There is also a swimming pool in Castle Douglas and a tourist information center.

The nearest coastal villages are Kippford (7 miles) from where you can walk round to the sandy beaches of Rockcliffe (10 miles from Haugh of Urr).

There is mountain biking at 7-stanes Dalbeattie forest trails, and the Haugh of Urr is an excellent stating point for many road biking excursions around the region including round Loch Urr or round the coast to Kircudbright.

“Excellent cottage and area”

Reviewed 11 Jan 2016

Took us a while to travel from Edinburgh due to the weather conditions but it was worth it. The cottage was excellent and had everything you needed including the log/coal fire. Came in handy as didn't travel far because of the weather but that made it even more snug just to chill out for a few days. Went to the local pub a couple of times including Hogmany. It has good food and the locals/staff were great. Even though we were the last ones in on Hogamany and politley asked to leave the atmosphere was fantastic. Would certailny recommend the cottage and the area.

“Everything we needed in a perfect location!”

Reviewed 7 Oct 2015

Beautiful cottage and garden. Well equipped kitchen with everything we needed, including a full sized fridge freezer which is unusual in a rental property. Comfortable, clean and well maintained property. An ideal rental for anyone with young children as the large background is enclosed and very safe. Haugh of Urr is a great location from which to explore the local area. We would definitely recommend Glenfinart Cottage and hope to return there in the future!

Thank you for your review and glad you enjoyed your stay, Brian and Debbie
