Great for group or family holidays in the glorious Galloway countryside, with pet llamas. Luxury new accommodation in a listed Coach House. Games room with table tennis, table football, air hockey, converts to a cosy cinema. Secure storage for bicycles, waterproofs etc. with laundry and drying room. The underfloor heating and woodburner add to the comfort.
The building is ecofriendly and has fantastic outdoor seating areas, including a giant stone horseshoe with panoramic views across the wildflower meadow roof of the East Wing to the hills. An outdoor table and chairs seat 8 people, alongside a stone-built barbecue and organic herb garden.
The west wing has 3 upstairs bedrooms - en-suite double bedroom, twin room & bunk room, sleeping 6 people. A sliding partition between the twin & bunk room allows room for 2 extra guest beds (2'6'' wide), with limited floor space (6 beds in the one room formed by the original 2 rooms). The bunk beds are hand-built & sturdy with 3ft wide mattresses, suitable for adults or children.
There is a shared bathroom upstairs, a downstairs shower room, & an open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room. The sitting area and table comfortably seat 6 people, but there is an extra bean bag and a person can sit at each end of the table (limited space). The huge arched glass doorway, through which the horses & carriages once passed, gives excellent natural light and views.
Within half hour's drive of the beaches & coves of the Solway coast. Many outdoor activities available, including hill climbing, fishing watersports, the famous 7-stanes mountain bike trails, many golf courses, Laggan Outdoors with adventures for big children/adults, ruined castles to explore, wildlife to watch, Mabie Farm Park, Cream 'o' Galloway ice cream makers & adventure playground and the Chocolate Factory at Twynholm. Try to find the Henry Moore Statues hidden in fantastic countryside on the Glenkiln Trail. Children can take a llama for a walk and help collect eggs. Alan offers motorcycle sidecar adventures. Hire of electric bicycles or a vintage car can be arranged.
The West Wing is separated internally from the East Wing (advert no. 476501) by a secure sound proof door. This can be opened to allow bigger groups of up to 14 to reside together in the whole Coach House (advert no. 389761 - see this for link to our website to see video of property, and fun). There is one big garden, not subdivided. Each side has its own private area, with large garden table, chairs & barbecue. There are some steep slopes and drops in the garden, and livestock in neighbouring fields, so small children need supervision.
The games room/cinema & laundry/drying room/store is shared with occupants of the East Wing, if present. There is a large flat-screen TV in each house, with surround sound and good selection of DVDs. Alarm radios with ipod docking stations in bedrooms.

Outdoor sports are numerous, the 7-stanes Mountain Bike Trails having thousands of visitors each year from brave cyclists. There are many golf courses. Nearby Loch Ken has a watersports centre. Pony trekking on the beach is available. Laggan outdoors, not for the faint-hearted, has archery, clay pigeon shooting, grassboarding, bouncing down the hill in a giant rubber ball & the longest zip wire in Scotland. We specialise in offering unique modes of transport - Alan offers motorcycle sidecar tours & friends offer electric bicycle hire or a trip through the countryside in a horse drawn carriage. To complete your holiday, a vintage car can be hired from the nearby village of Crocketford.
We have many castles to explore & imagine their ancient stories.
It's a great challenge to find the statues, hidden in the countryside, on The Henry Moore Sculpture Trail at Glenkiln, one of the most picturesque corners of our land, just a few miles from here. A beautiful drive through the hills from the sculpture trail takes you to the Green Tea Room, serving delicious organic food in the country village of Moniaive
Children can always be entertained, with Mabie Farm Park, the Cream O'Galloway, with its own dairy farm & ice cream factory, the Chocolate Factory being just a few of the places of great interest to them. The llamas are very kind to children and, in exchange for carrots, Lettie can be led around the field. Children can help collect eggs.
We run our own courses in creative writing, photography, arts, crafts, songwriting & storytelling, employing inspirational local writers & artists (details on website) where people learn a lot, have great fun & meet new friends.
Castle Douglas, 5 miles away, is known as 'the food town' with many independent food shops as well as two supermarkets.
There are some excellent pubs and restaurants in the area, many serving local produce. One of our favorites is the Laurie Arms at the Haugh of Urr. The landlord of our 'local', 'The Grapes' at Springholm, kindly often offers free meals for children and offers a free lift home for people who would like a few glasses of wine with their meal.

"Lovely Hosts and House"
We stayed in the west wing of the Coach House and had a fantastic time in the sun. The property is finished to a high standard in a peaceful setting with views overlooking the surrounding countryside. There were 8 in our party, 2 couples, 2 children and twin babies, who shared the double room with their parents. It was a bit of a tight squeeze but the cinema/games room, together with the barbeque area, which we made good use of, gave us the space we needed. We hardly heard our neighbours in the East wing. Juliet and Alan were the stars of our stay. Juliet was always on hand to offer advice on places to visit and help the children to feed the lamas and Alan's motorcycle side car ride was the highlight of the older kids holiday. This was my first visit to this part of Scotland and with our hosts help we managed to find some lovely beaches and places to enjoy the great weather we enjoyed. It was so hot that Juliet showed up with a paddling pool to cool the twins down. A tour of the herbs was also enjoyable. I just wish my cooking was better to make use them. It's this attention to detail and willingness to help that make Juliet and Alan such excellent hosts and I wish them every success in the future.
