Description

Le Berme is surrounded by 17 acres of its own private gardens and parkland; peace and tranquility reign. And yet it's only a 20 minute walk through fields of crops along a pilgrim's path to the nearest village, Castillonnes; a lively historic bastide.

The gite is self-contained and has been furnished and equipped to a very high standard with a double and twin bedroom. It boasts modern kitchen appliances and a bathroom with twin washbasins and a large shower. You can watch English or French programs on the TV and the Wi-Fi is free.

The gardens are packed with a variety of colourful flowers and shrubs. It's a plant-lover's paradise and attracts an eclectic mix of butterflies and birds. In the grounds you'll find rare specimen trees and may be lucky enough to get a glimpse of a small herd of deer or a hare. Everyone makes friends with our charming and entertaining red squirrels.

Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

Le Berme is set in a corner of South West France rich in picturesque medieval villages, romantic chateaux and gently rolling countryside.
It's an area renowned for its gastronomic delights, weekly farmers' markets and, in summer, an eclectic variety of cultural events.

Aquitaine/Dordogne

Just a short drive from Le Berme, there is a wonderful variety of cultural heritage and typically French fêtes et manifestations.

There are chateaux and gardens to visit. There are wines and gourmet delicacies to celebrate. You could visit a different farmers' market or brocante every day of the week.

You can do a vineyard tour, visit prehistoric caves and paddle a kayak down the river. How about a jazz festival that lasts a whole weekend?

In the cool of the evening, there are open air performances of every description from Shadows tribute bands to high opera in settings that range from the courtyard of the local mairie to the grandest chateau.

“Le Lovely Berme”

Reviewed 13 Jun 2013

From the moment we arrived we immediately felt at home, if you want a totally relaxing holiday in beautiful, peaceful and comfortable environment with lovely hosts who felt like 'friends' within a couple of days - this picturesque gite is the place for you - to be honest we partly want to keep it 'our' secret hideaway and not tell anyone just what a wonderful find we have found! That said Gerry & Steve deserve to be congratulated for getting it just about right on every level, everything has been so well thought through that you can just get on with enjoying yourselves. We have already booked for next year!

“Idyllic”

Reviewed 4 Aug 2012

We stayed at Le Berme mid July, Gerry and Steve couldn't have been more friendly (without being intrusive) and helpful. Their gite is fab, and is infact much nicer in real life than in the photos. They have fabulous gardens, which they allow you to go anywhere within. We were there with 2 boys, 5 and 6 and they loved the heated pool, infact they spent about 8 hours a day in there!! It was my husbands 40th when we were there and Gerry booked us a table in the local restaurant for us and when I emailed her and asked her if she could arrange a cake for him, she had already done it!!! I can not recommend this property enough, if you are thinking of booking it then do it! I would say it is great for a relaxing holiday although there is plenty to do outwith but with the beautiful gardens and it is so peaceful, it was a real struggle to drag ourselves away, and we are not normally hanging around types of people but this time we did stay by the pool most days!

“We found the perfect hideaway”

Reviewed 10 Aug 2011

Set in acres of beautiful grounds where wildlife came to your doorstep. Le Berme is the most preaceful and pretty gite we have ever stayed in. The pool was fabulous and the interior of the gite was comfortable and clean with very comfortable beds and all amenities. Gerry and Steve were the perfect hosts, hospitable and helpful without being intrusive. Wonderful area for exploring chateaus and finding pretty bastide villages with their beautiful cobbled streets and individual shops. I cannot find a bad word to say about Le Berme, we found it to be perfect in every way. You must have a car though to make the most of the surrounding area.
