Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

Tuscany is the most popular region of Italy, famous for its wonderful climate, landscape, and art treasures.

The famous "art" cities of Florence, Sienna and Lucca are huge attractions, whilst the culinary tradition is there to be savoured.

Locally, there are some highly attractive villages, and the town of Barga is well known for its beauty, and Opera, Jazz and food festivals.

Castelnuovo di Garfagnana

The area is well known for its excellent value cooking, using the best of local ingredients. A typical set lunch with 4 choices of pasta course, and 4 choices of main course costs only 9 euro inclusive of bread, wine and coffee. It is possible to have a multi-course traditional Sunday lunch or dinner with ample wine, coffee and liquors for less than 25 euro.

Garfagnana is the best area in Tuscany for walking. The scenery is superb.

We have links with an outdoor activities company who offer guided walks and climbing, mountain biking, canoeing and world class gorge walking.

There are local festivals throughout the year, notably in summer.

“Beautiful, friendly and stunning views...”

Reviewed 9 Aug 2013

sorry it has taken so long but I thought you might find some feedback of interest (and if you wish to use any of it as a testimonial, please do) from our visit to Monte Rotondo, Montiperpoli , Castelnuovo, in June of this year. Firstly I have to thank again the owner of the villa Enrico who along with his sister, his nephew Jacob and Jacob's mum, were so kind and helpful when one of our party suffered a small stroke. They gave selflessly of their time and made sure he was given the correct medical attention, down to driving him and his daughter to and from the hospital. Because of this the trips we had planned to the Cique Terre and Lucca were shelved but the small town of CastelNuovo just 2k away served as a short jaunt for a change of scene, with plenty of nice places for lunch etc. The Thursday market was fun with lots of nice things bought to try later at the villa. The very kind welcome pack of wine, salami platter, cake and water was a life saver as we were later getting to the villa than we expected because of flight changes. We also booked Enrico to do the BBQ evening at the villa which was super, with Jacob serving and even a cake for my birthday candles! Unfortunately the weather was a bit mixed at the start but the last 4 days were superb and the pool was much enjoyed by all. The villa itself had a lovely position with views to the mountains to die for, really beautiful. Watching the fire flies twinkle through the base of the trees was truly magical, in fact the area was alive with the sound of bird song from first light till dusk. The restaurant just 5 minutes up the hill was one of the best, friendly and pretty reasonably priced considering the quality of the wonderful Tuscan cuisine we sampled. So despite our little medical trauma we enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend the villa, the area and the owners to anyone looking for a peaceful break in Northern Tuscany. Cheers Boyd Calder (and party of 6)!

“A LITTLE PIECE OF PARADISE”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2012

I am so glad that we decided to book this villa it has everything one could hope for, breathtaking views, well appointed accommodation with good sized rooms and enough bathrooms always a plus when you have two teenagers. The villa is situated near a great little restaurant which serves lunches and dinners where the staff are ever so friendly. The hosts of the villa could not do any more for us they were brilliant we had alfresco meals cooked and served to us (a must I think to get a real flavour of italian food) so good we had to have them back 3 times! The weather was brilliant for us so hot and sunny. Some days it was great to just relax by the pool while other days a trip into Lucca by train and also Florence was easily achievable. The trains were cheap, fairly clean and mainly on time - how often can you say that of BR! We will definitely be back.
