Description

The Farmhouse

Ligoracce Farmhouse is located on a hill top, near to the beaches, on the famous "Etruscan coast " (http://www.costa degli etruschi.it). Quiet and peaceful, yet only one hour drive from the main historical Tuscany towns, the farmhouse has easy access to all amenities, including the local market and many excellent restaurants for eating out. It is really a "life-style" holiday relax in Tuscany.

"Ligoracce" is a classic stone Tuscan farmhouse that dates back to the XIX century. It has been fully and authentically restored, using local materials such as pietra serena and chestnut wood. The location of the property offers magnificent views of the Tuscan hills and to the front of the Tyrrhenian coast stretching as far as Corsica Island. The sun drenched olive groves, the smell of the wild time and herbs in the summer, the clusters of wild flowers in the spring, the clear unpolluted air, the silence make this little corner of Tuscany unique.

Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

Art, history, culture: in Tuscany, see it all. Tuscany is one of the most visited regions in the world, with a unique history and a combination of art, literature and culture which have had a profound influence on western culture over the centuries. From cities to villages, monuments to masterpieces, beaches , this region offers it all.

A temperate climate throughout the year, with particularly mild springs, long summers and infrequent rainfall during autumn/winter, makes for enjoyable holidays all year round.

The "Costa degli Etruschi" extends for over 100 uninterrupted kilometres, clear water shading from emerald green to deepest blue washes the coast.

A line of splendid resorts stretches from Livorno to Piombino - Castiglioncello, Quercianella, Rosignano, Vada, Cecina, Bibbona, Marina di Castagneto and San Vincenzo.

Beaches of pale sand, like those at San Vincenzo and Baratti, alternate with the darker sands of Marina di Castagneto, Bibbona and Cecina, and wind-sculpted rocky shores where the water is deep and teeming with fish.

Etruscan settlements by the sea, like the Baratti-Populonia Archaeological Park, museums full of Etruscan, Roman and Villanovan artefacts, such as those at Rosignano Marittimo, Cecina and Piombino, exhibitions and shows of international significance on the history of these places all bear witness to the historical importance of the Costa degli Etruschi.

Castellina Marittima

LIFESTYLE AT THE FARMHOUSE
Trekking, Mountain Bike, Buddhism and more
Walk for miles along ancient tracks and stop to take in the breathtaking scenes that open up in front of you.
Bring your mountain bike if you are the sporty type, or enjoy new free roads among the fields on your motorbike, visit and enjoy birdwatching in the WWF protected natural area of the Lake of S. Luce.
Walk to the local Buddhist Centre of Pomaia and share the spiritual peace of the place for a few hours, or go to the local markets and rediscover what food used to taste like.

Bees, horses and wild nature
Choose your favourite way to live the countryside: help with the “smielatura”, the collection of honey and try some of the scented honey for breakfast; watch our horses being groomed and prepared for a ride; discover wild orchids in the field around the farmhouse; watch the red sun set from your porch sipping a glass of wine; take up painting.
Or simply watch the huge sky at night and myriads of stars and constellations.

NEARBY
Historical sites and towns
The farmhouse is favorably positioned to visit some amongst the most beautiful towns in Tuscany: Pisa, Siena, Volterra, S. Gimignano, Lucca, Firenze and the traditional villages of Bolgheri, Castagneto Carducci, Casale Marittimo.
Nestled within the “ Golfo di Baratti “ lays the necropoli etrusca of Populonia, today part of the interesting “Parco Archeologico e Naturalistico.”

Seaside and Beaches
Over 20% of the Costa degli Etruschi comprises parks, protected areas, nature oases, and fauna reserves.
Nature is not just a setting, but the very essence of this land with its dense stands of pine trees, woods and countryside rich with colours and scents; a temperate climate throughout the year, with particularly mild springs, long summers and infrequent rainfall during autumn/winter, makes for enjoyable holidays all year round.

“Wundervoller Aufenthalt als Wiederholungstat”

Reviewed 7 Oct 2014

Bald.

“Wonderful vacation in Tuscany”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2014

Lovely accommodation in old Tuscany stone house surrounded by silent nature and far from crowded places. Perfect for those who want to explore Tuscany towns with their historical monuments and stay by the sea. Householders were very friendly and helpful in every situation. Moreover we could taste some products from their farm and learn a little bit from Italian cuisine.

“We loved it!”

Reviewed 30 Jan 2014

My husband and I spent two weeks at The Ligoracce at the end of September and early October. It couldn't have been better! Marisa and her family are warm, friendly and helpful and made our stay very special. This is a studio apartment, but the accommodation is charming, spacious, clean and well-equipped. The location, very close to Castellina Marittima is perfect as a home base for visiting the many beautiful interesting places nearby dotted along the Tuscan coast and inland, although we found our favorite days were ones spent relaxing and enjoying all that The Ligoracce had to offer: Al fresco dining overlooking the rolling Tuscan hills, cycling along the many old country tracks or walking down with the borrowed dogs to the river. *The dogs loved it too), We helped Marisa harvest the figs and the berries, and enjoyed tomatoes fresh from their garden and the jam she made with the fruits! We look forward to visiting The Ligoracce this year and we’ll bring the grandchildren!

“Perfect run-away”

Reviewed 11 Jun 2013

We (my husband and 2 year old sun) have stayed in La Ligoracce for one week in April and it was amazing. We were lucky with the weather and could witness how beautiful the spring is in Tuscany. La Ligoracce is a perfect place to be in nature, to relax and enjoy breathtaking views. The owners are very nice and welcoming, we've got all the information about what to see, where to eat, what not to see:), etc. My husband even got lucky and received a cooking lesson for real italian carbonara :) The place is in good location with a lot of possibilities, to go to the sea or to sightsee old Tuscany towns, vineyards or just to enjoy the wonderfull views of olive trees, flowers, horses and sun. One advice - go there with a trustable car - the road to the house is not very easy, 4-wheel drive would be the best. We were happy with our Panda :) All in all, someday for sure we will go back once again.

“Simply amazing”

What a lovely place! The house, the surroundings, everything was amazing. Tuscany in is best. The only concern is the property access because it's by a gravel road with some bumps; please be cautious if you drive a small car :-)
