Peaceful but not completely isolated, the apartment is situated above our finca (farmhouse) & being professional musicians working towards the coast, we enjoy the contrast, have no TV, preferring to listen to the nightingales and other unidentified

Peaceful but not completely isolated, the apartment is situated above our finca (farmhouse) & being professional musicians working towards the coast, we enjoy the contrast, have no TV, preferring to listen to the nightingales and other unidentified rustlings (nothing scary)!

The accommodation offers a double bedroom & a light, airy open plan kitchen/living area with exposed beams & log burning stove. The living area opens out onto a large, private south facing terrace with fantastic views. Here you can relax in comfort in your own little corner of paradise. Previous guests have described the location as 'a little piece of heaven'.

Access to the finca is via a half kilometre track and care is needed with low slung cars (although our 1st renters did manage it in a Mazda sports car)! If you prefer, it is possible to leave your car on our neighbour's driveway and walk the last 300 meters. In this case we will gladly help in transporting luggage, shopping, etc. Some previous renters made the following helpful comment.....'We hired a Nissan Juke. We got it through Atlaschoice, it cost about £75 for the 6 days hire plus the fuel that they put in and then you are meant to return empty. It was about £20 more than the type of car we hired the first time but made the whole track negotiation care free and actually a bit of fun'.

As well as our 2 friendly dogs, parrots & chickens, the house is surrounded by nature: wild flowers, hollyoaks, pine trees and a variety of low bushes. The only deciduous trees being our almonds and figs, making our views very green all year round. We also have grape vines, herbs, nisperos & carobs..

Several walks start directly from the doorstep and many more are available in the countryside around.

The Valencian Country region

The landscape of the Marina Alta is extremely varied with verdant hills to rugged mountain ranges with a green paradise of valleys holding a wealth of citrus, almond and olive groves and carpets of wine producing vines leading down to many miles of blue flag sandy beaches.

Castell de Castells

The apartment is above a British owned country house in the Jalon valley, and is located 5ks from the village of Castell de Castells where you can experience the charm of real Spain & find several tapas bars, a restaurant, Saturday market, 2 small supermarkets, a chemist, bank, an ATM machine, and a tabac where one buys postage stamps! All in a picturesque mountain village of only 500 inhabitants!

Castell de Castells also has tennis courts, a swimming pool open in the summer months, various grades of walks that include mountains higher than Ben Nevis and prehistoric caves with 8,000 year old paintings. The village also boasts a 50 piece brass orchestra who play in the village square during fiesta time (mid August) & on the many other celebratory occasions.

From the apartment it is a 20 min drive down the valley to the market town of Jalon where there is a fruit & veg market on Tuesdays & a large rastro (flea market) on Saturday mornings. There are also several bodegas where you can sample the local wines.

The very pleasant coastal towns & beaches of Javea, Moraira, Denia & Calpe are all about a 40 min drive away.

Also in the area are the caves of Vall d'Ebo and Benidoleig.

Near Castells is the highest peak of the mountain range Serrella, named Malla de llop which is over 1300 metres. The remains of an Arabic castle, Penya Castellet, and many trails are found in the area, popular for walking and mountain biking. The area has a rich history with three settlements around the village: Pla de Petracos, Bitlla and Pla d'Alt (The High Place).

“A great holiday in a lovely place”

Fantastic apartment, wonderfully romantic with the log fire and candles. The perfect antidote to the madness of life in the UK, very peaceful & comfortable This has been a great base for our sunny new year's trip, walking, biking and discovering the Costa Blanca. “What a great week!”

We came back to Fig Tree House having spent a great relaxing week there last summer, because we wanted to explore the local mountains on foot during the spring. We were not disappointed. A fabulous week was spent tackling the local paths which gave us the opportunity to see the local area from very many different views. The accommodation was comfortable, cosy and clean, and had everything we needed. Pam & John were very helpful, even getting us some food in as we arrived on bank holiday Monday when all the supermarkets were closed and then providing us with fresh eggs on a couple of occasions for breakfast. Altogether a fabulous week. Would definitely recommend this property for those who want an 'away from it all' break.
