Location description from owner

The Andalucia region

The scenery in Andalucia is second to none. Mountains, lakes, beautiful traditional villages, and skiing 2 hours away in Granada (seasonal).

Sierra de las Nieves (where the farmhouse is situated) is a mountainous area punctuated by deep ravines and spectacular cliffs. There are a number of potholes, one being the worlds 3rd deepest at 1100 m. The area is home to one of the largest communities of mountain goat. Other species live wild in this area, including stag, mountain ox, wild cat, wild boar, golden eagle, otter etc.

The beaches on Costa del Sol are some of the best. The sea is clear and calm. There are many beach restaurants where you can either eat spanish or english food. Most shops and restaurants on the coast speak english.

Malaga is a wonderful architectural city, and home to the Picasso Museum and many places/things to see and do. The Museum of glass and crystal is worth a trip, as is the Museo Automovilistico de Malaga (car museum). Why not spend an evening at the Kelipe Centro de Arte Flamenco, where you wil recieve great hospitality, wine and tapas whilst watching traditional singing and dancing. There is a beautiful 19th century gardens, full of exotic flowers (La conception - Jardin Botanico Historico de Malaga).

Mijas is a lovely place to visit. It has many independent shops selling locally crafted items. There are horse and carriage rides, donkey rides and lots of restaurants etc. Whilst Mijas is a popular place for tourists, it has managed to retain it's traditional charm. Why not eat lunch whilst overlooking the sea, with distant views of Gibraltar and Africa.

The city of Granada and Alhambra Palace is a great day out...perhaps stopping off at the natural hot springs en route. The spectacular gardens of Generalife is fabulous, as is Basilica de San Juan de Dios (an increditble church where all the work behind the alter has been set in gold.

Rhonda is home to the oldest bull ring in Spain, and the museum is worth a look. The Puente Nuevo Bridge and its views are breathtaking. A walk down the canyon to see the bridge from below in all its glory is recommended, but note...sensible walking shoes are a must.

Casarabonela

Casarabonela is in the National Park of Sierra de las Nieves.

It is centrally located for both the coast and all it's tourist attractions, and the "real" Spain. There are various activities within a short drive....fishing, horse riding, climbing, etc etc.

The local villages (Casarabonela and Alozaina) are quaint, traditional white washed villages. A perfect place to practice your holiday spanish. The Jardin Bontanico de Cactus is worth a look, and has a nice cafe. You can take a guided tour, and see some of the rare cacti species of the world.

There are 2 local private fishing lakes (small charge). Peaceful, and well stocked.

There are many restaurants and bars, and if you are lucky enough that your holiday coincides with one of the many local fiestas, you can party until 5 am!

“Fantastic holiday for 2 families”

Reviewed 26 Aug 2016

I stumbled across this property after hunting for days for a suitable place for my family of 4 and our friends family of 7 to stay. The pictures don't do it justice. What a stunning house. There is far more to this property than meets the eye. The outdoor games area, upper balcony, swimming pool (with slide), multiple bedrooms, cinema room, kitchen with every utensil possible and more!!! Each bedroom had an ensuite shower and made getting kids ready for bed a doddle. The owners of the house are super friendly and offered advice on places to eat and visit. They were also at the end of the phone incase of any issues. The house really felt like a home from home which made the holiday excellent. The kids really enjoyed the pool and also picking their own oranges from the tress on the surrounding land. My only criticism of the place was the lack of A/C, expect the cinema room which was a pleasure to sit in at the end of a hot day. Admittedly we were there at the hottest time of year, but it was very stuffy at night and kids didn't like having the windows wide open at night due to all the countryside noises!! I can honestly say it was one of the best holidays ever, all made possible by this great home. There was plenty to do in the area for kids and was only a 40 minute drive from Malaga and the other coastal towns. Great little supermarket just a few kms up the hill and then a bit further on another town with a butchers etc for BBQ produce!!

Owner's reply: Thanks so much for such a lovely review. Phew, yes, it must have been stuffy with windows shut!. Mossie nets and bars ensured the children would have been safe, but there are indeed some strange country noises!. We are so glad you all had such a lovely time. We hope to see you again one day. Best wishes, Mike and Nicki

“Picture Perfect”

Lovely place, will never get bored, near to local supermarekt, hospital and village. The landlords were wonderful, very helpful and always on hand if we had any issues, couldnt of asked for more. Village very nice place, proper Spain. Close drive to Marbella and Malaga. Had a wonderful week, never stopped laughing in such a wondeful setting and villa.

Owner's reply: Thanks so much for your kind words. Happy that we seem to have got it right :)

“Beautiful Location, Beautiful Villa, Beautiful Owners”

Reviewed 4 Aug 2013

I came to this villa in July for a week with 15 friends. The place is absolutely amazing, the pictures do not do it justice. The villa is set in the beautiful Spainish countryside surrounded by mountains and the way it has been designed you can see the amazing views from anywhere outside, especially the infinity pool, or through big windows in all the communal areas. Because of this serene location I would advise cars, just to give you that added freedom you want on holiday. The villa itself is beautiful too, with high ceilings, a big marble topped kitchen, open red brick work and big communal areas. The bedrooms are comfortable and all had an ensuite. Nicki and Mike have gone the extra mile here and decorated the villa to the T. One of my personal favourites was the cave under the slide, it looked like a treasure trove with all the lovely little trinkets they had put in it. Another was the pretty glittery butterflies they had decorated the plants in each room with. In addition, the villa is very well equipped, much less like a normal home, with an added bonus of any item you forgot to bring ready to go with an honesty box for replenishment. But, not only is this a place of beauty, it is one of fun too. With a big games room, a dresser jam-packed with board games and obviously the slide, there's something for everyone. Also, there are good speakers that can be heard easily from anywhere on the property, with microphones if you fancy a sing song, and no close neighbours so you can pump up the volume without complaint if you fancy a party. Furthermore, Nicki and Mike were very attentive and understanding owners, willing to help with anything. We couldn't have asked for more. Although they may not be around during your stay, I'm sure the housekeeper Caroline will be just as kind hearted. All in all our holiday here was amazing and we would definitely come back! Thanks again!

Owner's reply: Thanks very much for your kind words. Very happy that we seem to have got it right. :)

“Amazing!”

Reviewed 27 Jul 2013

14 friends and I stayed in Nicki and Mike's beautiful villa for a week in summer. Our stay was one we will always remember. The villa is better than the pictures reveal and is more than the average holiday rental. It is a lovely home, stocked with all the home essentials and decor with unreal mountain views, huge windows, a kitchen to die for with big marble work tops and of course the spectacular water flowing slide. We had a brilliant time here, everyday unveiling another fun extra they'd left for our enjoyment. They also have brilliant speakers in the games room that can be heard from anywhere in the villa so you are able to have your own party, plus there are no close neighbours to avoid so you can be as loud and as fun as you want. In addition, Nicki and Mike were excellent owners, helping us with anything we needed and really made the holiday extra special. Even though we were a real handful for them at times, they were very patient and understanding. The one thing I would suggest for future renters is getting cars. The villa is quite far out from anything, although we either hitch-hiked, got a taxi or Nicki and Mike were on hand to help out so it wasn't a problem, but having cars on hand would be much simpler. Although do not let this deter you, what it lacks in location it also gains in location too because of its unbelievable views and tranquil setting. We would 100% return to this villa and think that if you're looking for a stunning home jam-packed with adventure, fun and relaxation, then this is the place for you. It was for us :) THANKS NICKI AND MIKE!!! lots of love!!!

Owner's reply: Thanks so much for your review. We are very happy that we "got it right". :)

“a perect time had by all in this amazing house”

Reviewed 6 May 2013

We stayed here to celebrate my birthday. The owners were very accommodating with dates/arrival times etc. The luxury welcome package was great. Nothing was too much trouble for Caroline, the cleaner/property manager. Everything you need (other than beach towels) was at the property. This is not your usual sparse rental. Amazing house and pool. Spectacular views. The "cave" area by the pool would be great for when it is too hot in the summer. An extra bedroom, a gym and an indoor BBQ area is planned for next year. The we were pleasantly surprised that the pool table was adapted so you didn't have to pay. A fab time was had by all. It is the perfect place for just chilling, and is very central for exploring. We will definitely be returning both with friends in a group and with family. Thanks for a great time.

Owner's reply: Thanks so much for your review. We are very happy that you had such a lovely time :)
