The Algarve region

The region is an extensive and pleasant one, with a Mediterranean-style microclimate with temperatures that vary from 15º C in winter through to 30º C in summer.

Some of the best and most beautiful beaches in the entire world are to be found in the Algarve. 200-kilometre coastline, the Algarve features all types of coves, cliffs and caves, its rocky beaches contrasting with broad expanses of sand. Visit the beaches of Carvoeiro, Benagil, Marinha and Caneiros.

A stroll through the tangled web of narrow streets, alleys and steps to be found away from the coast is the best way of getting to know this part of the region. Silves, the Moorish town is rich in history with the biggest castle in the Algarve and the most beautiful military monument to the Islamic period in Portugal.

After the enchantment of the landscape, you can discover the aromas and flavours of the traditional Algarve cuisine. The menu may consist of fish and shellfish, with such dishes as caldeirada de peixe (fish-stew) or cataplana de amêijoas (clams steamed in a copper pan), or you can enjoy the traditional mountain food of stewed chickpeas and cabbage.

The region's built heritage is something you cannot afford to miss. The architecture of the whitewashed houses, with their brightly-coloured mouldings and remarkably beautiful chimneys, the church belfries and the museums.

Also to be recommended is the range of outdoor sports that are available, whether you're playing golf on lush green courses or enjoying some physical exercise at some of the region's excellent facilities, whether you're on the coast or perhaps up in the hills, where, after the rigours of winter and even before the first signs of spring, the land is covered in a pinkish white blanket, produced by the blossom of the almond-trees scattered across the horizon.

The Algarve has something for every one.

The village of Carvoeiro has many shops, restaurants, coffee shops, bars, nightclubs, banks and chemists. Along with the beautiful sandy beaches of Benagil and Marinha are just 5 min. drive away. Lagoa is the nearest town with a local fish market and two large supermarkets for all your needs. For a fabulous family day out, visit the historic town of Silves with its ancient Moorish castle, or visit the fantastic water park (Slide and Splash) and theme park (Zoo Marine) all are a short drive away.

Available services: Chef for special occasions - airport transfers / taxis - personal trainer, aerobics - spa and therapy, massage, tennis, karting, boat trips / caves. Please make an enquiry.

"Great Villa for a large family"

We rented this villa this winter for our family . There were 8 people in our party, half were over 65. This villa offered loads of space and plenty of services to make everybody happy. It was clean and close to all the local shops and restaurants. The garden and patio area was lovely. We had a small problem with the electrical breakers and the Watson family corrected the problem right away. It was an easy place to spend 3 weeks.

"A fantastic place to stay"

This villa is a real find. It has a real authentic Portuguese feel to it with plenty of character, having whitewashed walls everywhere adorned with original tiled murals. It is perfectly situated in town next to the "Taste" restaurant. It's a gem really, hiding as it does behind high walls between the "in" and "out" roads of Carvoeiro. Even so any traffic noise isn't invasive unless you're looking for total peace and quiet. Even in the height of summer, although there were bars and restaurants nearby, there was no noise. The beach was only a five minute walk away, although we found it difficult to pull ourselves away from our own beautiful courtyard and pool area which was very private. No rush for the eight sunbeds here ! The villa is a very old building which has been beautifully renovated with all mod cons. 5 bedrooms, 3 en suite plus a large family bathroom. The main villa accommodation houses 4 bedrooms and the living accommodation, while there is a further twin room with en suite at the other end of the pool with it's own entrance. There are lots of areas to catch the sun and get some shade and several areas around the pool to sit and eat alfresco, plus a barbecue. There are also seperate toilet and laundry rooms in the courtyard. Beach/pool towels are provided by the owners which is really useful. If you are looking for luxury accommodation with the convenience of all that Carvoeiro has to offer right on your doorstep, then I couldn't recommend Villa Oasis enough. Thanks to James, Phil and all the family for all your help and friendly welcome. I hope we will return again soon
