The Lake District

The Lake District is quite simply breathtaking! England's largest national park and the UK's premier holiday destination throughout spring, summer, autumn and winter. England has 5 mountains over 900 meters high (2952 feet) and all 5 of them are here in Cumbria!

The Lake District is the country's largest 'adventure playground' with a wide variety of activities available to people of all ages in England's most stunning scenery. Cumbria's diverse & natural landscapes are geographically unique and the Lake District also boasts some of northern England's most beautiful coastline

Cartmel

Located away from roads at the end of a private, cobbled lane in the picturesque little village of Cark-in-Cartmel in Cumbria. Our village is located at the southern end of the Cartmel Valley and has a gentle pace of life-it's quiet and peaceful without being remote.

Our cottage is just a 10 minute drive to Lake Windermere and Grange-over-Sands, whilst Kendal, Ulverston, Coniston, and Bowness-on-Windermere are all within 30 minutes' drive. The spectacular and ever changing sands of Morecambe Bay are only a 10 minute walk from the cottage.

There are 2 good country pubs within 2 minutes' walk of the cottage, both of which serve good food and welcome families, walkers and are dog & child friendly too. The pretty stream that meanders through the village runs down to Morecambe Bay, Britain's largest tidal bay. Being located so close to the bay brings a milder, drier climate than the rest of the Lake District. The valley is rarely affected by snow, however, when snow arrives elsewhere, it is only a short drive or walk uphill to view the snowy peaks.

Our pretty village, Cark-in-Cartmel is sparsely populated but in addition to the 2 pubs there is a 'Londis' convenience store, hair & beauty salon and even a small train station on the coastal railway to Barrow.

“Fab few days!”

Reviewed 30 Nov 2015

We had a lovely chilled time at Bridgelands Cottage with our Dogs - who were totally exhausted after long walks which were right on the doorstep! A very friendly village with a couple of good pubs and a great bakery supplying wonderful freshly made croissants for breakfast a couple of minutes from the cottage. Cartmel is a lovely place with more good pubs and we couldn't leave without having the sticky toffee pud!! Hope to return very soon!

Thank you Jane for your great review. It?s great to hear how much you enjoyed your stay, the local pubs, our wonderful artisan bakery and of course not forgetting the famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

“Suberb comfortable cottage in a great location”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2014

Bridgelands cottage is a cosy, comfortable home from home. Was spotlessly clean, all the rooms are a good size, there were 5 of us in total and plenty of room for all of us. Would definitely recommend the Rose and Crown pub, a 2 minute walk, great food, friendly staff. We walked into Cartmel, about a 20 minute walk lovely little village, amazing cheese shop, stock up local cheeses is a must!! This was our first time in the Lake District, it did not disappoint, we only booked for a week but we felt like we still have so much more to explore, so we will definitely be returning! I would not hesitate to book again, already bookmarked on my favourites!

Thanks Roberta. Your comments and thoughts on our cottage, village and area are very much appreciated. We personally get a lot of pleasure hearing how much our guests have enjoyed their holiday. Holidays are so important in todays hectic, often stressful lives and it's even more important for holidays to deliver the satisfaction and relaxation people need. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Cartmel Valley and the Lake District. Thank again.

“Another stunning cottage - perfect break!”

Reviewed 10 Feb 2014

After having such a fabulous stay in Grange End cottage last year we decided to try Bridgelands Cottage for a long weekend in January. I may honestly say that were were certainly not disappointed in our choice! We already knew that it was in the perfect location as we had originally stayed in another cottage in the same location which we did not think could be topped. This cottage has a charm all of its own though and is just as lovely and quirky. Again an open fire in a cosy lounge, huge kitchen/dining room and guest bedrooms and bathroom on the 1st floor, full of character. Then up to the master bedroom on the 2nd floor - simply stunning!! There are another 3 cottages for breaks at Holiday Cottages Cumbria and I am already working on reasons why we should visit them all in the near future! Definitely have no hesitation in recommending this cottages whatever your circumstance, romance, country walks, family breaks etc - you need look no further!!!!!

Wow! What a wonderful review. Thanks Shona. It's lovely to hear how much you love our cottages, the location and our attention to detail in our cottages. I look forward to welcoming you back on Friday for your 3rd visit! Thanks Again.
