The Derbyshire region

The Peak District holds the proud distinction of being Britain's first National Park, and once you see the rolling hills and craggy dales of Derbyshire you'll soon realise why. Situated right at the heart of England this is perhaps one of the most accessible areas, and it offers the broadest selection of landscapes and attractions.

This is a region of contrasts, with wild moorland, classic walking country which encompasses every kind of activity, from a gentle stroll to the lofty challenge of the Peaks themselves. The leafy lanes and quiet villages are ideal for that feeling of getting away from it all. With towns such as Buxton, with its wonderful architecture and cultural life, along with picturesque Bakewell and the attractions of Matlock, you'll be spoiled for choice with places to stay and things to see and do.

Carsington Water

This south facing Farmhouse sits at the heart of the tiny Peak District Village of Carsington, opposite the Village green and adjacent to the church & churchyard of St Margarets. The lush backdrop is Carsington pastures where sheep & cattle graze.

Carsington provides a great base for your stay in the Peak District. There are many attractions on the doorstep from Carsington Water, just a few minutes away, to the town of Bakewell and Chatsworth which are within half an hour drive.

The new Russell Crowe film Robin Hood is set 15 minutes away at Dove Dale.

Carsington Water is great place for sailing, fishing, off-road cycling, walking or relaxing in the restaurant over looking the lake.

Local Pub with good food and ale is just a 4 minute walk where the landlord will look after guests of Swiers Farm House - 01629540207 Miners Arms.

"Excellent 30th Birthday"

My friends and I had a briliant stay at Swiers Farmhouse. Doug was incredibly helpful and had all the lights and heating on when we arrived. His communication prior to arrival was very helpful and he gave us some good suggestions for a walk on the Saturday. We used Sloans Catering on the Saturday night for a 30th Birthday dinner for 14. Everyone commented that the food was amazing and the service was excellent - such a bonus to be able to have fine dining in your own home with no washing up! Its very reasonable as well especially when you don't have to go out, would definitely recommend them. Overall an excellent stay and would highly recommend Swiers to anyone thinking about having a weekend away with friends/family etc.

"perfect venue and surroundings for a family holiday"

A beautiful old building, with lots of space, plenty of bedrooms, and room to move around inside and out. We were 6 adults and 6 children, and were all quite happy to relax indoors on the day we got snowed in, and we didn't get under each others' feet! It is comfortably furnished with everything needed in the kitchen for cooking for lots of people. The owners were helpful and there when needed but not intrusive. We will definitely be going again, and would like to stay for longer so that we can explore some of the local footpaths and more of the surrounding area. Lots of the well known Derbyshire beauty spots and tourist attractions are within easy reach. Many thanks to the owners for letting us stay - we feel we have found a really special place for future family holidays.

"A Perfect Weekend"

It was very easy to book the farm house and any questions I had before we arrived were answered quickly Swires Farm is really lovely and such an amazing setting. In total 11 of us stayed for a long weekend to get away from the city. There are lovely walks nearby and a plenty of great scenery so we really felt we were away from it all. The owner was very helpful and recommended plenty of things to do. The local pub looked after us very well and we all fully enjoyed the Friday fish special! Thank you for a great experience!

"Great area, very "homely" house"

Homely as in feels like someone else's home. that is. Generally fine, but would be difficult with more than nine or ten people. The kitchen, for example, although recently refitted, only has a single oven and standard hob, which seems short-sighted for somewhere advertising itself as being able to accommodate 14. Also, we were pestered to pay the balance despite this having been paid weeks beforehand.

"Absolute Class"

What a superb place, we were a group of friends with young familes and it was set up brilliantly for us all. Plenty of space for kids to play and plenty of room for grown ups to enjoy the evenings without disturbing the kids. Gardens were superb, load of space to run about and a conker tree :) right time of year and never had so much fun. Owners were so friendly and helpful and it was such a relaxed place to chill out. Location was spot on to explore the delights of Derbyshire and areas. Top break and thouroughly recommend.
