Carrick-on-Suir

Experience the great outdoors through the many walking and cycling trails.

Slievenamon ( Sliabh na mban, mountain of the women, 2,564 feet ). The view from its summit is one of great extent and much beauty, with a diversity of mountain and valley, river and wood but except for the view, it has not much to offer to the climber except a fine walk. It takes 2 hours to get to the top. Drive to Kilcash to find the trail. Don’t forget to stop in the local pub there for a drink after your walk.

The Kilmacoliver loop is one of the most scenic walks in County Kilkenny. Its only 10 minutes drive away. It starts in the village of Tullahought, where walkers can park beside the Watering Place, which is a wildlife pond fed by a freshwater spring. A mapboard displays the walking route and also shows the local wildlife in the pond and the area. http://www.everytrail.com/guide/trail-kilkenny-ireland-kilmacoliver-walk.

Ormond Castle, Carrick-on-Suir, is strategically positioned on the River Suir. In times past it commanded vital access North to the town of Clonmel and South to the port of Waterford. There has been a Castle at this location since early 14th century. “Way more than we expected!”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2014

When our 4 teenagers walked in, their mouths dropped. Gorgeous, spacious yet cozy. The two master bedrooms were perfect for us two married couples, and the girls loved their room and didn't mind sharing a bed. The boys didn't want to share a bed so one slept on the couch. That was the ONLY downside. There was plenty of room fo us to eat together, or gather in the living room during our 3 nights there.. Also, it was SO helpful to be able to wash clothes. Because we stayed there in the middle of our trip, we packed for only 8 days, not 16 and did laundry while there. The teens had never hung cloths on a line before. Loved it. ALso, they enjoyed the creek in back and we adults appreciated the closeness to historic sites and stores. Alice stopped in several times to check how we were doing and made sure we had everything we needed. We all loved our stay here and all 8 of us voted this our best stay of the trip (even though one hotel had a pool and Jacuzzi.that we used every night) We would highly recommend "The Old House".

“Perfect”

Reviewed 15 Jan 2014

The photos really don't do it justice. The house is perfect. We all felt at home as soon as we walked in and it had everything we needed. On top of that the surrounding area is very nice and well worth a walk around.

“peace and tranquility in a beautiful setting”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2013

We stayed at The Old House for 2 weeks in July 2013. We are a family of 4, 2 kids aged 13 and 10, not forgetting our dog Lucy. We knew we wanted to stay in The Old House as soon as we saw in online. We fell in love with the house even more as soon as we arrived. The layout is amazing and very well thought out. Very tastefully decorated, warm and welcoming and the open loft bedroom was a real feature. The house was spotless and extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly need and more. We spent many days not leaving the house as it's such a beautiful and relaxing place to be. The yard and gardens provided the perfect location for tennis and football. The boys cycled endless laps of the grounds and they had a great time in the river in their inflatable boat! We had amazing weather to top it all off and barbecued most evenings. Afterwards we relaxed at the outdoor seating area enjoying a beverage or 6. Sitting by the fire in the living room with lots of candles lit, taking in and appreciating everything about the house was simply breathtaking. And then there's Alice. What an amazing woman you are! You made us feel very welcome and we so looked forward to your wee visits. We enjoyed listening to Alice's stories and her craic. We had the pleasure of meeting mad Breda :-) Richard, Ciara and wee Michael. Such a lovely, warm family you are. Leaving at the end of the 2 weeks was very hard but we will be back. Alice girl, get the kettle on!! xx

“What a great Stay !!!!”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2012

What a great stay... We arrived to be greated by Alice,to collect the keys, what a lovely welome.. The house is stunning, what a location !, If you are after a tranquil, peaceful holiday, this is it.. The house was kept in a very clean order, there is a beautiful open fire which I lit on a couple of ocassions. there are 4 double bedrooms, 3 are unsuite. The house is finished with all mod cons, top class.. a beautiful house.. We found this within easy reach of visiting Clonmel and Killkenny on days out. There is a lovely stream running along the bottom of the garden. Breda came to see us on our last day to make sure all was going well. All in all, what a great time we had, we wished we could have stayed longer! We will be booking again next year... We cant wait ....

“A perfect house in a beautiful spot”

Reviewed 25 Oct 2012

From our welcome to the moment we left we were treated with the utmost graciousness. The house was everything and more than the pictures and the owners took us in and helped us with our touring. Upon arrival we were greeted with a homemade tart and got to meet Breda on the weekend. Very clean and an extremely lovely setting. Breda are you coimg to visit?
