The Lancashire region
There are many sandy beaches meeting AONB standard nearby and Leighton Moss offers fantastic walks among reed beds and coastal lagoons. See bitterns, harriers an sea waders, or just settle back for a full English breakfast at the Barn Cafe. Kendal, with its bistros and shopping, is a short ride away, then carry on the extra few minutes to Bowness on Windermere. Alternately pop up to the Grizedale Forest or Newby Bridge and take a steamboat trip on Windermere, or carry on to Cartmel and see the Priory or eat at L'Enclume the famed Michelin starred restaurant, just 30 minutes away.
The many other amenities and stunning countryside of the Lake District are readily accessed from the lodge. The attractions of North Yorkshire such as Aysgarth Falls and the pretty town of Kirkby Lonsdale with its antique shops are close too.
A short trip by motorway takes you to Penrith and the North Lakes, Carlisle and points further north such as Gretna Green and the outlet village there.
Carnforth is 2 mlles away and the nearest place for provisions, with two handy supermarkets; Booths, more for luxury and often locally sourced food, and a large Tesco. There's a good carvery restaurant there too, or go no further than Waters Edge to get a family pasta night special or go the whole way with fine dining a la carte; great food served by Des and his team!
The town is best known as the location where "Brief Encounters" was filmed, and the restored train station has a really interesting visitors centre - www.carnforthstation.co.uk/brief_encounter.html
Even closer (500 yard walk) is Greenlands Village visitor centre, where there is Wellies Cafe , wine, farm produce and gift shop, a toddlers playbarn and an open farm www.greenlandsfarmvillage.com. The mega home made cakes at Catch 23 fishing lake Cafe, just a mile along the road past the South Lakes Village are well worth the visit.

"Warm, comfortable lodge with great amenities and well placed for Lake District attractions"
We stayed at Lake Vista Lodge with our boys over the Jubilee bank holiday weekend and had a lovely, relaxing break. The lodge is spacious, comfortable and well equipped and has views over the lake and site. The general atmosphere of the site is friendly and laid-back - people come and go from the bar, restaurant and pool and everything is very relaxed. Our boys loved going in the pool every day and it was good to have that on site in case of bad weather - no hassle entertainment for the kids! Site restaurant and bar busy and decent quality - there is also a mini beach just by the bar which the boys enjoyed playing on and met some friends. We took a big box of food essentials as we didn't want to bother shopping once we got there but there is a lovely farm shop a couple of miles down the road where you can stock up on basics and deli treats, and Booths supermarket/delicatessen on the edge of Carnforth which is fantastic - we would just go there next time to stock up! There is also a fabulous Italian restaurant in the farm shop complex - low key and relaxing with lovely home-made dishes and a garden area at the back to sit in the evening sunshine! All of the main visitor attractions in the Lake District are within an hour or so for driving out for a day so the site is very well placed - you are away from the hustle and bustle of slow traffic and busy tourist areas but you can get to lots of places too. We had a lovely break at Lake Vista lodge and will definitely be returning soon!

"A beautiful lodge with fantastic views overlooking lake and hills."
We had already stayed at another lodge at South Lakeland village and having walked around the site we had noticed the lodges which were slightly elevated which offered perfect views overlooking the lake, hills and countryside. So for our next visit we decided to see if any of these lodges were available for holiday rental and lo and behold we stumbled across Lake Vista Lodge. We arrived early evening and on entering inside we were immediately impressed. We loved the contemporary modern look and soon settled into our retreat for the next couple of days. The lodge had everything we needed and included an impressive 42" Freeview TV( which was essential as it was X Factor final weekend) .We were impressed with the size of the main bedroom which had an adjoining ensuite and good sized walk in wardrobe. The main bathroom was also a good size and this had a large p shaped shower bath suite. The lodge has a large wrap around decking area which has patio furniture which I 'm sure in the warmer months gets endless use. South Lakeland holiday village has many facilities on offer which include a swimming pool, gymnasium, steam room and beauty therapy suite. There is also the Waters Edge restaurant and bar.We didn't eat there but the menu looked varied and offered reasonable prices. There is and on site launderette and wifi access a cost of £6.00 for 48hrs although the reception/signal is not very good. Will we return....most definitley YES.

"A luxury lodge in a beautiful spot"
We had the most fantastic, relaxing short break at this lodge in November. The minute you walk into the lodge you are hit by the 'WOW' factor. It's so luxurious and extremely well kitted out and was very warm and cosy. Everything was just perfect. The food and atmosphere in the 'on site' Waters Edge pub was excellent. We had a great time exploring the nearby attractions, including the Brief Encounter Refreshment Room (well worth a visit if you like the film). We would very much like to return in the warmer, Summer months as we would love to make use of the balcony which has gorgeous views over the lake.

"Spacious log cabin in good location"
We stayed in this accomodation for five nights at the end of august. the cabin was well appointed and had plenty of room. there was a lovely south facing balcony with views onto the lake. the facilities on the park are good, nice restaurant and leisure facilities. unfortunately, you have to pay for the leisure pass separately. There is lots to do in the area, 20-30 minutes drive to various areas of the lake district. we visited brockhole, fell-foot park and haverthwaite steam railway. The owner dealt with all of our queries promptly and helpfully. would definitely think about returing
