Location description from owner

The Scotland region

The landscape of the Scottish Borders covering an area of 1800 square miles is characterised by green rolling hills divided by beautiful river valleys, the most famous of which is the Tweed. The river runs right through the region for nearly 160km from its source above Tweedsmuir to the sea at Berwick-upon-Tweed. The section of the Tweed Valley stretching from Melrose to Peebles is where you will find a string of attractions from the ruins of Dryburgh and Melrose Abbey to the eccentricities of Sir Walter Scott's mansion at Abbotsford and the intriguing Jacobite past of Traquair House. Along with the towns of Selkirk and Galashiels these towns form the heart of the Borders region, whose turbulent history was, until the Act of Union characterised by endless clan warfare and Reivers raids. Consequently the area is strewn with ruined castles and keeps. This turbulent past is now remembered each year by the Common Ridings in June and July . Towns like Peebles and Selkirk hold celebrations normally lasting a week which include "ride-outs" where hundreds of locals ride horses around the burgh boundaries

Cardrona

Situated just 20 miles south of Edinburgh, Cardrona lies just 3 miles east of the busy market town of Peebles providing the perfect base for exploring this historical and beautiful region. Its busy and eclectic high street provides a range of good shopping facilities and a weekly market. Nestled along side the shops you will find art galleries, cafes and award winning restaurants; a museum, swimming pool and the wonderful Eastgate Theatre converted from an old church at the end of the High Street. Opportunities abound for walking, fishing on the salmon-rich Tweed and golf at local courses in Peebles, Cardrona and Innerleithen. World class mountain biking and Go Ape is available at Glentress Forest, 1.5 miles away and the extreme 7-Stanes downhill run is just a few miles away in Traquair Forest outside Innerleithen. Sitting proudly on the hill outside Peebles, you can visit the 14th century Neidpath Castle once visited by Mary Queen of Scots and to the east of Cardrona some three miles away in the small village of Traquair stands Traquair House, the oldest continuously inhabited house in Scotland. Peebles hosts food, mountain biking, arts and music festivals throughout the year including the Beltane which lasts an entire week in June and features the spectacle of hundreds of horses being ridden through the town and culminates with the colourful Crowning of The Beltane Queen on the steps of the parish church.

Location great for many walks and a very good bus service if required.,Lee Penn cottage was very clean and tidy.Has a inner porch door which is very good for taking your boots or shoes off keeping the property clean.Great shower, comfy bed, comfy couch and well equipped kitchen.Have been to a few properties in Peebles and would rate this one the best.

“Lee Penn stay”

Lovely one bedroom apartment, very helpful friendly owners, near a lovely little town. Visiting the two bedroom apartment in June. Can't wait to come again. X

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your kind words - so glad you enjoyed your stay and looking forward to welcoming you back in June!

“Beautiful apartment in perfect location”

Reviewed 14 Apr 2017

We recently stayed at Lee Penn for a week and found the apartment to be clean, beautifully furnished and well equipped. The surrounding area is stunning with plenty to do especially if you like walking and mountain biking. Lucy and Dave were great hosts, extremely helpful and having them next door was an added bonus as they provided a lot of good information about bike trails and walks nearby. Lucy also gave my wife an introductory lesson in mountain biking which she thoroughly enjoyed. We stayed elsewhere in Peebles last April but after staying in Lee Penn this April would not think of staying anywhere else but Lee Penn when returning to the area again. A real gem of an apartment in a great location.

Owner's reply: It was a pleasure to meet you both and you were lovely guests. Thank you for your kind comments and I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. Look forward to seeing you again soon.

“Lovely Stay”

Just returned from Lee Penn. Lovely apartment in an ideal setting. We frequently holiday in the Peebles area and have no doubt we will return to Lee Penn in the future

Owner's reply: So glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back again in the future. Bring your bikes next time and I can show you those routes we discussed!

“Good value for money, beautifully presented property, very clean”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2015

The photograph of the outside of the property is deceiving as the entrance to the rental property is at the rear, but once inside you will not be disappointed the owner has not held back on the quality of the interior, one of the best I have stayed in. The only negative was the bedroom window overlooked the car park to the houses to the rear which did at times become noisy and some youths did gather although it didn't last for long, I have never stayed anywhere that was attached to the owners property before and I don't think I would do it again but if you can overlook those I'd give it a go.

Owner's reply: Hi Hazel. Many thanks for taking the time to review Lee Penn. I am sorry you were disturbed by some neighbours during your stay as it is normally such a quiet place and I appreciate staying in accommodation which forms part of the main house is not to everyone's taste - we do try to make this clear in the Holiday Lettings entry. Anyway it was a pleasure to have you staying with us and I do appreciate your very positive comments regarding the interior. Thank you

“Stylish and chic accommodation in mountain biking heaven.”

Beautiful french, chic and boutique accommodation set in the heart of the Tweed Valley. The perfect location for a mountain biking holiday or a romantic break. With Lucy's local knowledge and amazing welcome and hospitality rest assured you'll be going back for another stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back to try more of Lucy's local knowledge trails :-).

Owner's reply: So glad you enjoyed your stay. Yes, we do live in a bit of a MTB utopia here and I am so pleased you found the accommodation comfortable as we have spent a lot of time getting it as cosy as possible for our guests. Many thanks for your comments.
