Southern Wales region
The South Wales region includes a wide range of variety and destinations. From Cardiff, the proud capital city of Wales to the countryside and amazing coastline of the Vale of Glamorgan and the Gower Peninsula. The region also includes Afan Forest Park and borders with Brecon Beacons National Park to the north.
Cardiff Bay is Europe's most exciting waterfront development. You'll find here a diverse mix of internationally acclaimed visitor attractions, activities and entertainment, coupled with vibrant, cosmopolitan bars, shops and restaurants all situated around the magnificent freshwater lake, giving Cardiff's waterfront a truly unique atmosphere worthy of any capital city. Cardiff Bay is home to the Wales Millennium Centre, Y Senedd (The National Assembly building), an Olympic sized swimming pool and leisure facility, white water centre, yacht club, and there are numerous cycling and walking trails around the Cardiff Bay Barrage.
Many visitors come down to the Bay just to stroll along the water's edge and soak up the atmosphere. If you’re looking for places to visit there is plenty of choice, from small attractions in historic locations to huge engineering and architectural feats, the Bay has a wide range of free and paid attractions to keep you entertained throughout the year. So no matter what the weather's doing outside there's no excuse for staying away.
Cardiff is a city of attractions, sport, culture and entertainment. Cardiff Castle and its beautiful grounds can be found in the city centre. With world-class stadiums for rugby, football, cricket, athletics and an International Sports Village, it is easy to see why Cardiff has gained its reputation as a sporting city.
