"Home from home"
The hospitality, the location, the layout, the facilities, it was like coming home every evening. Had a wonderful stay in Taffs Well, Rob and Jo are so welcoming and accommodating, nothing was a problem. If anyone wants to spend time in this lovely part of Wales this is the place to stay, convenient for public transport into Cardiff and up into the Valleys. Beautiful walks, great pubs and restaurants in the immediate area. The cottage itself is just perfect with everything you need and a lovely private garden for the odd bbq. And as for Rob's Welsh Cakes...... Do yourselves a favour and book Railway Cottage for a break, you won't regret it.

"We will be back!"
The stay in the Railway Cottage in Taffs Well was superb! The apartment was very tidy, clean and cozy. Thanks to Rob and his nice family, our holiday was top class from first day on. They live next door but that's not bothering in any way and they answer your questions if you have any and try to help you out. The trains, that are coming trough nearby are not annoying and Taffs Well itself is a nice little place with a few supermarkets almost opened at any time. A very big plus point were the pubs in Taffs Well and both of them are very comfy and had great food like steak&onion-baguette and, whats the most important thing to me, REAL (local) ales! Great stuff! We were out walking every day, nice landscape, great weather. Make sure you pay a visit to Caerphilly and Tongwynlais. As big fans of the BBC Sherlock-Show with Cumberbatch and Freeman, we knew many filming locations were around the corner, so we visited a dozen of them, all reachable within little time. We went to Cardiff on three days (no problem e.g. by train) and were overwhelmed by this city. It's not too big and not too small, has many opportunities to spend the day, shop, eat, explore or just relax, like the museum, the park or the quay. (And my worlds favourite beer: Brains bitter!) So all in all it was a great stay and we would again like to thank Rob and his family (and their giant fluffy bear-dog) for this extraordinary holiday. We will definitely be back in the near future, thats for sure! Cheers Laura and Paul, Germany

"Home from home"
Thank you to Rob for a lovely stay at the Railway cottage which we really enjoyed. The location is so pretty and ideal for visiting Cardiff but also perfect for lovely walks and scenery. We enjoyed a delicious meal at Fagins pub which is a stone throw away. Would highly recommend a stay here.

A lovely, clean, tidy place to stay. Everything you need is in the cottage and it was the perfect size for 2 of us. Just a short train ride into Cardiff, which is the main reason we stayed here. The cottage is perfectly located near to the Taffs Trail - great for walking or cycling, and I would recommend Umber and Siennas Art Cafe just off the trail in Taffs Well. Beautiful! We had a great days cycling to Caerphilly Castle and Castle Coch. Unfortunately, there is nowhere dry to store bikes, so make sure you take bike covers with you. The local pub Fagins, - just 70 steps away- is fantastic! Good food, good beer and great atmosphere. We didn't manage to try the other establishments as we loved this one so much! A truly great place to stay, I would highly recommend it and can't wait to go back there again.

We had a great stay in the railway cottage. Making the arrangements for the arrival were easy and the owners gave us a warm welcome including delicious fresh Welsh cakes. The cottage was well equipped with nice and comfortable furniture. Everything was clean and in very good condition. The garden behind the cottage was a great plus which we enjoyed using. The cottage is well located for public transport to Cardiff and hiking around the general area including the nearby lovely mountain Garth. There are also several nice pubs, restaurants and a park within a short walking distance.

"Cracking little cottage, very private and yet everything is on your doorstep."
Stayed with my husband for a week in July (went to see Springsteen Concert in Cardiff), this cottage is a perfect size for a couple and has its own private garden. The transport links into Cardiff are great with Buses running every 15 mins and trains almost as often. The Village is well equipped for Eateries and pubs of its own (turn left or right out the garden gate) and is at the base of the Garth (Moutain) Hill which has a cracking pub serving great food 10 minutes walk from the door. The Cottage is in the grounds (attached to) the owners house and carpaking is in the owners drive, which was large enough to park three cars with no concern. The Welcome was warm and Friendly and Rob took the time to ensure we were comfortable with the Cottage and our Garden, a moment or two answering our questions about local amenities (theres more than it first appears! Supermarkets a Bowlplex, Multiplex Cinema- all just 1 mile from the door) and he was off allowing us to enjoy the Sunshine and Wine in the Garden

"Pictures do not do this property justice"
WOW, is what you say to yourself when you enter this property this is much greater than I expected. Exceptionally well maintained and perfect for two people that want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It is like having your own private place to stay where you can relax and enjoy the world around you. A car could be useful if you are staying here, but we did not have one and were pleased with our ability to get around. There are two buses that pass the property and the train station is only a moderate walk away. We hiked from this location to one of the nearby castles and caught the train to Cardiff several times to visit attractions in the city. The only concern for some people is the fact that the cottage is next to the railroad, it is a railway cottage after all, but the trains stop running at night and we did not notice excessive noise from them.

"Very comfortable apartment, ideal fror visiting Cardiff."
This is a very comfortable little apartment, cosy and well equipped; it is ideal for visiting Cardiff-the station is 15mins walk away and the trains are very regular-and yet very much in the country. The owners are very welcoming and hospitable and the local pub is excellent!

"Great facilities in the perfect place to explore Cardiff"
This is a gem if you want to explore what Cardiff and its surrounds have to offer. Located 15 minutes (by train) from Cardiff city centre and at £4.50 per person for a day return ticket, travelling in and out of town is a cinch. The cottage is splendid in its simplicity with everything you need to enjoy a self-catering holiday home-from-home. It has off-road parking, its own entrance and offers total privacy. We found the bed very comfortable and there was sufficient unpacking space for a week's break. The kitchenette has everything you need - fridge, lovely stove, plenty of cupboards and all the necessary pots, pans and utensils. The lounge is comfortable with a table and chairs in addition to the lounge suite, and a lovely view onto the small private garden at the back. TV seems to have BBC and one or two other channels - not something we were bothered with so maybe there are more. The central heating worked well - swiftly heating the cottage on the cold Welsh mornings. The bathroom / toilet offers a shower over the bath, handbasin and loo as you would expect, and the thick towels were great. There is a folder with outing recommendations - one of which is an excellent curry house within walking distance - 'The Spice Connoisseur' - highly recommended. Food-wise we used the local co-op which has the usual range of offerings. Places we recommend to see: Caerphilly Castle, The Stadium Tour, Cardiff Castle, Cardiff Museum, The Brecon Beacons and for book-lovers, a trip to Hay-On-Wye (about an hours drive north) is well worth considering. Some of these are in Cardiff city centre - others require a drive or short train journey. Rob and Jo are lovely - very welcoming and eager to make your stay as comfortable as possible. All-in-all highly recommended and somewhere we will be re-visiting!
