The Languedoc-Roussillon region
This beautiful region enjoys one of the best climates in France, with about 300 days of sunshine a year. It's location lends itself to many different types of holiday; if you are looking to relax on the beach, then you have those of the Mediterranean just a short drive away, for the more energetic there are the Black Mountains to the north, perfect for walking or biking, or for the more ambitious the Pyrenean Mountains are not far away, offering the possibility of skiing in the winter.
If you are a wine lover, then you are in for a treat, we have been amazed by the quality and price of those produced locally, most of it from small growers, who produce too little to export.
You can tour the local countryside through the pretty French villages taking in the local markets and vineyards where you can sample the wines and purchase wine at local prices.
Take advantage of the location and visit the nearby cities of Toulouse, Montpelier or Barcelona - all accessible by train or motorway.
Whether you want to visit the Medieval City and the Bastide Saint Louis, or do some sport, or maybe just enjoy some quiet moments of relaxation by the banks of the lake in the Raymond Chésa Leisure Park or by the Canal du Midi, you can really do a bit of everything in Carcassonne.
The Raymond Chésa Leisure Park is situated in natural surroundings close to the imposing walls of the Cité Médiévale, and extends over 40 hectares.
Within the park there is a man lake with a beach and is ideal for swimming.
Perfect for walks, the park is also a place for leisure activities in which you will find converted picnic areas, pedalos, a mini golf course, several beach volleyball courts and a forest adventure park.
The Medieval city of Carcassonne is a major attraction in the South of France and a must-see for anyone visiting the region. On Bastille Day there is a massive fireworks display at the old Cite. During the summer months, there are many outdoor events scheduled in Carcassonne ranging from Opera to rock concerts. Some of these events are free of charge; however, it may be necessary to check if tickets are required for larger events

"Great House in Great Location - Most relaxing holiday ever"
Stayed in 76 BD Paul Laugevin for a week in early August 2012 with my husband, son, sister-in-law, her husband and children. We had the most relaxing holiday ever. We had intended to hire cars but didn't even get around to that. The taxi rides (x2 due to seven of us) from the airport took approx 10 minutes and cost approx €15 each. We were met at the house by a very friendly english agent who took us through the workings of the house. The centre of Carcassone is approx 15 minute walk from the house and the Cité itself is approx 25 minute walk (more like stroll). Although on a bus route, we found them on the scarce side but taxis are freely available. There is a major supermarket about a 5 minute walk away and fresh bread about 30 seconds away. The house itself was well equipped with a great BBQ area for the evening and a lovely pool which had a shady side at the hottest part of the day. With three teenagers to cater for they were very happy messing about in the pool and had a large stock of of board games, card games, DVDs etc to occupy the hotter part of the day. With bikes and helmets included, everyone was happy. Also a great stock of books for anyone who had just finished one. No shortage of hot water for showers and shower room downstairs and bathroom upstairs. It is located in a quiet residential area just of a main road with the bars and restaurants in the centre of the town. Though not luxury accommodation, and a bit tired around the edges, it was a most pleasant house to stay in and I would have no problem returning! The owner was probably the most helpful lady I have encountered finding out information about gluten free food for my niece who is a coeliac before we went, bus timetables etc. She was a pleasure to deal with. Go and enjoy!
