Location description from owner

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

Carcassonne

Local Information:

The house is located on the border of the Corbieres and Minervois wine regions, so there are plenty of opportunities to take a guided wine tour or to simply visit local producers to taste and purchase excellent local wines.

Just 15 mins away is the medieval Cité de Carcassonne, a Unesco heritage site and an absolute must-see! 52 towers and two rings of fortified walls surround a bustling town with small, narrow cobbled streets lined with restaurants and boutique shops.

The beautiful Canal du Midi is just a 5 minute stroll from the house. You can take a guided cruise or hire your own boat by the hour or day. The tree-lined canal tow paths are great for cycling due to the flat terrain (6 bikes are available for hire) or try venturing down the Etang de Marseillette behind the Canal to take a beautiful evening stroll on quiet roads lined with sunflower fields, apple orchards and vineyards!

The area around Languedoc is steeped in history; you can visit hilltop Cathar castles, circular villages, beautiful abbeys, cathedrals, and historic market towns or just take a drive through picturesque nearby villages and stop to wander around the different local open-air markets and village fetes. For the DaVinci Code aficionados, consider exploring the exciting mystery of the Rennes le Chateau and the Knights Templars

Mediterranean beaches are about a 40 minute drive but there is also a lovely, safe swimming lake with a sandy beach just 15 minutes away. Climbing, walking and hiking are also all popular activities around the area, as well as canoeing, kayaking and fishing along the river Aude.

“Brilliant base for exploring the beautiful Languedoc region”

Reviewed 6 Sep 2016

Andrea's house was very comfortable and well equipped. It also has a wonderful panoramic view of the Alaric mountain from the patio. Andrea was there to meet us quite late in the evening and provided a lot of useful information on the area. I found the location a wonderful base to tour the region and just wished we had more than 10 days.

“A beautiful way to experience the French countryside.”

Reviewed 5 Nov 2014

We stayed at Andrea's Mountain View home for one week in late October, 2014. We had researched carefully the entire area in Southeast France and chose this home for the location and description by both the owner and visitors. Little did we know how comfortable and cozy it was. Andrea has prepared her home in a tasteful and warm manner. She was prompt in responding to our questions and even asked if we needed any groceries due to our late arrival by train. The property overlooks sprawling fields and mountains and, from the terrace, provides a place to greet the sunrise. Just breathtaking. Marseillette is the actual town in which Mountain View is located. It is quaint, quiet, and brings to mind rural France and all the images one might conjure of that area of the world. The fresh morning pain au chocolate pastries from the belangerie just down the road is a real treat, as is the local bar across the road. If you want a relaxing, clean, comfortable, tasteful home in the countryside of France, look no further...this is it. We would return without any hesitation.

“Fabulous Fall Visit”

Reviewed 15 Oct 2013

Mountainview is a wonderful place to spend a vacation. The house is beautiful, spotlessly clean, well equipped and comfortable. We felt at home from the moment we arrived. Andrea is a superb host who made us feel welcome into her house. Her attention to detail made all the difference. We enjoyed our breakfasts and dinners out on the terrace enjoying the amazing views and spent our days cycling around the area. The location is excellent for walking, cycling, wine visits and day trips to places like Carcassonne.

“An excellent property in a great location on the Canal du Midi.”

Reviewed 27 Jul 2013

We have stayed in many self catering properties in the 12 years we have holidaying in France with our bicycles and Andrea's home has been one the most comfortable ever. 3 large double bedrooms with loads of storage, all sorts of toiletries (even down to nail polish remover), a kitchen better equipped than mine at home and the most stunning view across the countryside to the village of Capendu Most places FEEL like a holiday home, but with lovely places to visit and explore close by, it was always a pleasure to come HOME and have a BBQ on the terrace or cook a meal in the lovely kitchen. UK TV for those that don't like to miss their favourite programmes, bicycles if you want to explore the Canal du Midi, ample parking space, quiet location.........a place to get away from it all. And finally but not least, Andrea is an excellent person to rent from, she gave us a great welcome and provided us with excellent information to help us with our visit to the area. We are planning to stay there again soon.

“Mountain View does not disappoint!”

Reviewed 22 Jul 2013

Highly recommend this wonderful property equipped with everything you could possibly need built into the old fort in Marseillete. Spectacular vistas from the sun terrace across the rooftops where one can enjoy breakfast watching the sun come up, barbeques at sunset and everything in between. Beautiful bike rides along the Canal du Midi a short distance away. Local amenities just around the corner. Plenty of good priced wine to sample from the local vineyards and home grown produce in the village. Nearest supermarkets an easy drive away. Ideal tranquil base from which to explore the countryside, Carcassone, the beaches of the Med or simply relax. No shortage of things to do as borne out by the generous information packs supplied by Andrea.
