Description

A lovely renovated town house within sight of the Cité . Carcassonne's historic fortified citadel. (800m walk) Located in a quiet residential area. The house offers two completely separate apartments, ideal for extended family/friends holidays.

From our experience of letting our apartments for a number of years we feel we provide very clean and homely accommodation that are very well equipped including the recent addition of WIFI. We are not only ideally placed for La Cite and its many restaurants and shops but within easy walking distance of Carcassonne New Town and The Canal Du Midi. We are very close to local amenities including a boulangerie, butchers, Vival supermarket, bank and chemist or the larger supermarkets Geant, Lidl and Leader Price which are in the vicinity (1000m walk). Our guests are very complementary about the apartments and the location with many visitors returning year after year.

Location description from owner

The Occitanie region

La Cîte, a world heritage site, is less than a ten minute walk away, with its spectacular castle, numerous shops, restaurants and cafes. It hosts innumerable festivals throughout the year and has the largest and most spectacular firework display in France on the 14th July. You can soak up the wonderful friendly atmosphere whilst sipping your wine, and sampling the local cuisine, don't miss the cassoulet, which is a specialty of the area. Carcassonne is the cultural and historic capital of the Aude region sitting upon the Aude river and crossed by the breathtakingly beautiful Canal Du Midi.
Just a ten-minute walk from the house is a shopping complex - including the Geant Supermarket, Leader Price and lidl among others. Ideal for your weekly shop or even closer to the apartments are local amenities, including an excellent boulangerie selling fabulous bread, croissants and patisseries, a fishmonger, wine cave, small supermarket and a good pizza restaurant.
The new town is a compact multi-ethnic place, built on a grid system, which makes sightseeing easy. At the hub of this grid is the elegant Place Carnot with its many bars and cafes -ideal to people watch! There is a typical French market every Saturday morning. Well worth a visit just for the atmosphere alone! There's also a daily fruit and veg market in the Place de Carnot - closed Sunday. Within the grid is the Canal Du Midi basin, railway station and the Pont Vieux (old bridge with breath-taking views of La Cîte) taking you across the Aude back to La Cîte.

A ten-minute drive will take you to the beautiful Lac de La Cavayere or Carcassonne Plage, for sun bathing, swimming, boating and even extreme tree pursuits.

Golf is also on offer at Carcassonne and Castelnaudary.

Carcassonne

The region around Carcasonne is world famous for the Cathar history and for the many castles that were built from the 12th to the 14th century including the enchanting Lastours and Montsegur. Within an hour you can be walking or skiing in the mountains of the Arriege and within 2 hours the Pyrenees. There are also many spectacular show caves to explore within easy access of Carcassonne. The number of places to visit in a week is almost unlimited and there is plenty to occupy you in Carcassonne alone!
For the more adventurous, some of our favourites so far are :-
The villages of Trebes set on the Canal Du Midi, the beautiful Lagrasse with its famous bridge and abbey, Ribault with its amazing water falls --just brilliant for swimming and sun bathing in the summer months. The mysterious villages of Minerve and Rennes Le Chateau.
The small towns of Limoux a thirty-minute drive through acres of vineyards - famous for its Blanquette, a wonderful sparkling wine, Languedoc's local champagne. Quillan for white water rafting among many adventure sports. Mirepoix- with its medieval timbered houses abutting the square - which is lively, and bustling place on market day. The historic town of Foix and the two jewels of the regions Mediterranean, Collioure and Gruissan.

“A home from home in a fantastic location”

Reviewed 23 Apr 2014

Our apartment was spacious and as well equipped as our own home with crockery and glasses for every need as well as a cosy lounge to relax after a day of sightseeing : and what a range of sightseeing there was We could see the Citadel from our window and it only took 10 minutes to walk there so no worries about parking the car we ate out twice in the restaurants there and could walk back after partaking of the many wonderful regional wines We also had several excursions into the foothills of the Pyrenees where we visited vineyards and bought some very fine local wine as well as seeing the Spring flowers and blossom which were everywhere An added bonus was the weather with clear skies and temperatures in the low 20s This meant we could take full advantage of the BBQ provided in the private enclosed garden with food from the well stocked supermarket only 5 minutes away It wasn't too difficult to find the apartment from the airport but we had looked it up on Google Street view which we were glad we did as there were one or two places we could easily have got lost All in all we really enjoyed our stay and will be returning in the autumn when we may manage to drive down to the beach A week was not long enough to see all we wanted to so we will go back
