Description

Arnaval is capable of sleeping 7 people and set in the lee of a hill. It is in a peaceful coastal environment with Fiscavaig bay a few minutes from the house. Arnaval is an ideal base to explore the island or to come back to in the evening after a day walking the Cuillin, a view of which can be seen from the front sitting-room window. Arnaval is open all year for both short breaks, weekly holidays or longer.

The Isle-of-Skye is world famous for its scenic views, mountain climbing in the Cuillin, Kinloch Lodge and the Three Chimneys for excellent cuisine and many more making a name for themselves. Boat trips can be taken from many places on Skye, a good day out is to Loch Coruisk made famous the watercolourist J M W Turner or to the distillery where Talisker Single Malt Whisky is produced, close at hand in the village of Carbost.

It is also possible to do sea-kayaking, salmon and trout fishing on various rivers and lochs.

Close to the house is Fiscavaig bay

Close to the house is Fiscavaig bay where it is possible to walk along a sandy beach.

There are numerous walks around the area; a good Sunday walk is to Talisker Bay over the old road that used to take supplies from Fiscavaig to Talisker House, another long one is the Fiscavaig Coastal Route.

Just along the coast from Fiscavaig is the oldest known human settlement in Minginish at the "cave of the speckled horses" or Uamh an Eich Bhric in Gaelic.

A ten minute walk from the house will bring you to the Taigh Ailean which is the closest pub where you can enjoy a drink and a meal, if you carry on along the road past the pub, you will find the Portnalong Gallery and futher down the road you will see views of Loch Bracadale from Portnalong pier.

In Carbost is the pub The Old Inn, a post office, village shop and of course the Talisker Distillery visitor centre where you can enjoy a dram of single malt Talisker and take a guided tour around the distillery.

Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Our cottage is in what has become known as the centre of Skye and is dominated by The Cuillin renowned for peaks, vertical faces and steep ridges, in summer they are an exhilarating and challenging outing, in winter a major mountaineering expedition. So please be careful!! Viewed early in the morning from Glen Brittle, or later in the day from Elgol, this mountain range is the photographers delight. Don't be surprised if you go around a corner to find a film crew filming for the next blockbuster and if you have seen Prometheus, Ronin, Stardust, Highlander to name a few you might recognize the scenery.

The larger towns and villages of Skye are within 25 to 45 minutes of the cottage. Broadford offers a wonderful view over the bay to the Isle of Pabbay, bespoke jewelers, good fish & chips from the Waterfront Fish & Chip Shop, a well-stocked CO-OP and plenty more, even an Estate Agent if you want move to Skye. Portree has an old fashioned appeal, with colourful houses and traditional harbour, just outside the village check out Aros for theatre, films or something to eat. In Portree itself you will find small shops with gifts, visit Skye Soaps orTippiecanoe or for newpapers MacIntryes or if you have little ones one of the best toy shops in the Highlands.

Dunvegan has the home of the Chief of Clan MacLeod where you will find that you can tour the castle and the garden grounds, best to leave most of the day to do this. When finished at the castle a short drive past will take you to the "Coral" beach where it is sometimes possible to see seals swiming in the sea.

Unravel the mysteries of this magical Isle by driving the back roads where you will be rewarded with wonderful views of ever changing topography, Be aware that the roads can be narrow, please be polite and allow faster cars to past by using the passing places, note also, if you are at the top of a hill the car coming up toward you has right away so park up in the passing place until they pass you. If the driver is a local they will wave their thanks.

To eat out within walking distance of the house is Taigh Ailean where you can have an evening pint with your meal or a short distance by car in Carbost is the Old Inn where you can also have a good meal in a traditional pub.

Lastly, if its a whisky distillery you would like to tour we have one that is within walking distance ( approx 4 miles). Talisker Distillery was established in the 1830, in the small crofting area of Carbostbeg, apart from short breaks in its history it has been producing the malt spirit that matures into Talisker Single Malt Whisky since then.

Carbost

All the cottages owned by Isle-of-Skye Holiday Cottages are in the area of Skye known as Minginish, this peninsula is surrounded by sea and the mountain range of the Cuillin. The sea-lochs are Loch Harport, which opens to Loch Bracadale, Loch Eynort and Loch Scavaig, they have spectacular sea-cliffs which can be only appreciated from the water, so, if you have a kayak take it with you. The Cuillin Hills form part of the border to the area of Stathaird and must be one of the untamed areas of Britain.

“Beautifully presented cottage with stunning views”

Reviewed 27 Oct 2015

I would highly recommend this very spacious, beautifully presented and spotlessly clean cottage. It was everything I could have asked for. The views over looking the Cullins Ridge were stunning. The location of the cottage is great for walks/climbs over the Cullin Ridge which is approximately 25mins drive away to Glenbrittle Hut. There is a pub approximately 10mins walk away and another pub which is 3miles away by car called The Old Inn At Carbost, great atmosphere with live music - well worth a visit. Overall a great week!

Owner's reply: Dear M B, thank-you for leaving a review on Arnaval. I am glad that the house met with your expections. Dorothy
