Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Minginish is one of the peninsulas on Skye and was once part of the land owned by the Clan MacLeod. It is situated in south central Skye, between Loch Scavaig and Glen Drynoch in the west, Loch Harport and Glen Sligachan in the south and east. It includes most of the peaks of the Cuillin hills including Sgurr Alasdair, the highest point on the island.
Much of the interior of Minginish is uninhabited except by sheep and wildlife such as Red Deer, Golden Eagles, Sea Eagles.

The terrain is a series of hills and mountains dissected by steep-sided valleys such as Glen Brittle and Glen Eynort.

To the east, Loch Coruisk, which has been painted by William Daniell and J.M.W. Turner amongst others and visited by Walter Scott, is only accessible by boat from Elgol or on foot by track from Sligachan.

There are a number of small settlements in Minginish, principally along the south coast of Loch Harport, including Carbost, Drynoch and Fiskavaig; Eynort and Talisker are further south.

Crofting was once the mainstay of the economy along with forestry now the mainstay could be said to be tourists coming to Skye, Talisker whisky which is world reknowned is distilled in Carbost, a short walk from the house, in fact you can see the back yard of the distillery buildings from the house.

“From one cleaner to another.... tops marks!”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2016

We rented this property on another visit to the Isle of Skye for a local friend's wedding after finding all the hotels and inn's full but one man's loss is another man's gain as they say as we hit the jackpot with this property! The setting, the views are truly breathtaking and that's before you walk into the property. The thing we liked about this cottage is that it really was a home from home, there was nothing that Dorothy and the team hadn't included and we really could make ourselves at home for our week's stay, her communication was also second to none. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you needed apart from the food! You can do the washing, dry it in the tumble dryer and there's also a dishwasher. The beds were better than our beds at home with fresh sheets, luxury duvets and throws. The bathrooms like all this newly built cottage are completed with waterfall shower heads and heated towel rails. The thing i really liked about this house is that all the interior design includes handmade Skye pieces, including original artworks and prints along with so much useful info on the area and places to visit. This is such a nice touch and I found myself buying quite a few items in various craft shops! Would highly recommend this place as being a cleaner for me having a clean property was a must and this did not disappoint at all! We will most certainly book this place again - huge well done to Dorothy and the team!

Owner's reply: Thank-you so much for your review. By all accounts the wedding went well. I'll tell the girls you were impressed with cleaning.
