Description

Capanno Del Lupo is a beautiful 300 year old, stone farmhouse, recently restored, which stands in 20 acres of hillside that merge into chestnut groves and woodland. It's position high in the Tuscan hills offers amazing views, seclusion and tranquillity and is perfectly located for walking enthusiasts.

The house is set over three levels: The ground floor has a well equipped farmhouse kitchen, a dining room with seating for 6/8 and a small sitting room. All these rooms open up to the front terrace which is a sun trap for most of the day. A stone stairway leads to bedroom 3 and then continues on to the next level which has the main sitting room and bedroom 2. This sitting room is the heart of the house and is full of character with a rustic stone sink and a large stone fireplace; from here, a wooden staircase leads up to the master bedroom which is complete with private bathroom.

The Tuscany region

Caprese Michelangelo

Capanno Del Lupo stands mid way between the village of Caprese Michelangelo and the medieval town of Anghiari. The house offers comfort, total privacy and seclusion with spectacular scenery. It offers the ideal location for the family holiday or a get together for a group of friends and is perfectly situated for that relaxing, 'away from it all' escape yet is in easy reach of the historical and cultural delights that La Verna, Poppi, Arezzo, Cortona, Gubbio, Assisi, Perugia, Siena and Florence all have to offer. Day trips to Rome are also possible. The farmhouse is close to a marked route so is ideally situated for walking the surrounding hills with or without a local guide.
Also in walking distance is a restaurant offering local produce and the small hamlet of Manzi which has a grocery store selling fresh pasta and home made cakes. Oil and wine tasting is available at the local oil mill.
Anghiari and Sansepolcro hold markets every week and both towns have a selection of wonderful restaurants. Horse riding is available nearby.

“A slice of heaven”

Reviewed 5 Sep 2016

Having read all the other great reviews for John and Sue's villa we went with high expectation and were not disappointed. The villa and surroundings are simply stunning with views to die for and utter peace and tranquillity. Sue and John were perfect hosts and made us feel so welcome. Sophie the dog became a firm friend to us all and we were sad not to be able to take her home with us. Lots of lovely restuarants and medieval towns to visit locally and we enjoyed a trip to Florence - definitely worth the drive. The villa is perfectly equipped with everything you need - even scales and mixers which meant we were able to bake cakes all week. We enjoyed the view from the pool which just takes your breathe away. Just such a special holiday - we left with happy memories that will stay with us forever. We definitely recommend this villa. Thanks so much Sue and John - have no doubt we will return!!!! Hannah, Russ and Charlotte x

Thank you Hannah, for the lovely review. It was a pleasure having you to stay and not just because of the baking! Though a special thanks for those brownies - they were sublime. We do, indeed, hope you return. xx

Spent a week here in a beautiful setting. House is beautifully restored and brilliantly equipped - very comfortable and lots of lovely touches such as the welcome drinks and very generous welcome basket. We loved the pool and had some great trips out to local towns. Sue and John were super hosts who were always happy to help but very discreet at the same time. We feel lucky to have spent a week there and would return at the drop of a hat! Thoroughly recommend it.

Thank you so much for choosing to spend your holiday here and at the drop of a hat you'll be welcomed back!!! It was lovely to meet you all and we're glad you had a great time. Hope the cross country running you managed to do here helps with the marathon.

We’ve stayed at Capanno Del Lupo twice now - the first time in August 2011 and then just over a year later in October 2012 - something we’ve never done with any other holiday home. In terms of accommodation, the house is spacious, comfortable and well equipped; in terms of setting, it’s near unbeatable. Summer days can be extremely hot but due to the house’s hillside position, the evenings and nights are as cool and refreshing as they are quiet. A quiet only broken by wild boar as they venture out from the nearby forest to slurp down any and all ripe fruit that’s fallen to ground. Tuscany in autumn is stunning. We were lucky enough to enjoy an unseasonal hot spell but it’s also a great time to visit places that may be somewhat overwhelmed during the more traditional tourist times of year. Capanno Del Lupo is only a short journey from many of Tuscany’s most interesting artistic and cultural attractions and there are, as you’d expect, plenty of excellent restaurants to help break any journey. Two small caveats. During the summer, the Tuscan hills can play host to a variety of insects; nothing too regular or bothersome but not a bad idea to keep a little insect repellant at hand. Secondly, once off the main road, the track to the house doesn’t have the best of surfaces. That said, I’ve seen a local resident regularly bounce along the track in an old Fiat Panda, so don’t imagine the drive up is anything like a full-on off-road experience. Above all, Capanno Del Lupo is a fantastic holiday home in a setting of extraordinary natural beauty. Go there.

“Villa with a view.”

An hour and half from Florence Airport through the breathtaking Tuscan countryside had us braving the short country road which leads to John and Sue Sharp's well maintained driveway. As one rounds the last curve a beautiful stone Tuscan villa invites you "home". Spacious, well loved and well appointed, this country home has every comfort for a most enjoyable stay. This is a large house over three floors that will easily accommodate a family or a group of friends without impacting on privacy. The sitting room is equipped with dvd's, books and games and a most welcome fireplace for those chilly evenings. A second lounge houses a music centre and cd's. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped and leads directly onto a delightful loggia which overlooks a Tuscan valley of immense beauty. To enjoy a meal here was living "la dolce vita" to such an extent that actually deciding to do anything else paled into insignificance. The lifestyle on offer here is hedonistic. Dont' fight it. Succumb. Your waist line might object but your batteries will purr. John and Sue are charming landlords who occupy an annexe to the house. They will give you solid advice on the where, what and hows to do in the area. They will also become your friends. The villa is a little isolated in that it is not in a village. Shopping is available in Anghiari - a fortified 12 century town well worth exploring - or Sansepolcro. Or pop down the road to a very good restaurant and a little further on a small village with a grocery store and pub. And walk the forests this lovely home nestles in. Deer, wild boar and squirrels lend a fairy tale feel to the place.

“Best relaxing place!!!!”

We spent 2 relaxing weeks in Capanno del Lupo . The house was beautiful,in excellent condition, clean and with a special charm. We had 2 weeks great weather so that we joined the pool nearly every day. The view is really great. Our owners John and Sue were very helpful and sympathetic. They're like friends but very discret and unimposing. Our trips to Florence, Arezzo, Anghiari, Sansepolcro, Montepulciano and Cortona were very interesting. A holiday we will never forget.Thank's for all;)

It was a pleasure meeting you all and we loved having our first proposal here! We look foreward to seeing you again in August.

“"A small piece of heaven in Tuscany"”

We were three good friends that stayed in Capanno Del Lupo from the 8th of September 2012 for 11 days. Capanno Del Lupo is charming and very private, with great views and in a great location a short distance away from many Tuscan attractions and towns. The farmhouse is very well designed and decorated, with a lovely sitting room, three spacious and comfortable double ensuite bedrooms, a spacious dining room and a well-equipped kitchen with a dishwasher. There is also the use of a washing machine if needed. The property has a lovely terrace were you can sit and enjoy the views and sunshine all day if you so choose. We had most of our meals outside to take full advantage of the fantastic weather we had during our stay. There is a good-size swimming pool slightly elevated from the house. From this area there are stunning views of the beautiful scenery and the Tuscany mountains. This was our favourite spot. There are also both long and short treks in the area for some really great walks which are highly recommended. As for food, there are plenty of choices. You can stay in and cook or you can visit one of the many restaurants/pizzerias in the nearby towns. One of our favourites was the local restaurant ‘Locanda del Viandante’ just down the road. They serve local delicacies at reasonable prices and offer a great service, with a really good understanding of the local Tuscan wines. The best Pizzeria we found was in the nearby town of Caprese di Michelangelo (il Boschetto) - very local, authentic and good value for money. If you have a sweet tooth, remember to ask Sue, she know of a place in Sansepolcro with cakes and sweets to die for:-) John and Sue are extremely welcoming and hospitable, great hosts in that they give you your own space while also attending to your needs. Each morning they cleaned the pool and made sure the grounds were well kept. John & Sue live in an apartment at the back of the building yet you hardly knew they were around and they were never invasive. We liked the fact that everything was covered in the rental fee, i.e. towels, bed sheets, cleaning at departure. One thing worth mentioning: the road up to the house is windy and very bumpy, but with a car with good ground clearance this is not a problem. We would highly recommend Capanno Del Lupo and would love to visit again. Altogether an unforgettable experience. “ Stepping into Capanno Del Lupo was like sinking into a favourite armchair with a cup of hot chocolate and a box of Milk Tray.” ‘The Italian Job’ gang.

It was a pleasure having you all to stay and thank you for the great photos. We hope to see you again.
